this is fantastic nice 1,iam a seventies kid and love watching all these old vids, memories of brilliance ,we used to say when we were kids that you could spot dickie davies in a crowd of a million haha! thanks for the upload kings road blues, well in ;)
Ohhh, this is wonderful! Dickie and Eric were great friends and it shows. I've been looking for this ever since I saw it as an enchanted little girl. Thank you!
Got anymore of this ? i believe later in the programme Eric gets Dickie Davies's hand stuck in the corner pocket, whilst playing snooker, i believe eric tore the cloth as well ! sheer brilliance
Christmas Eve 1977 - and I have the full studio edit of this (27mins) + over 9000 other TV items. Please email me if interested via thames.tv@gmail.com - Cheers.
Eric Morecambe and Dickie Davies were great friends. You would never see this sort of thing on British TV these days. Tv takes itself far too seriously these days, alas.
Life was much simpler in those days. We all looked forward to Eric & Ernie's christmas show. These days i just want christmas over and done with and to get back to work.
Eric & Ernie. Just phenomenal comedians. Eric having a ball alongside his mate on this off-the-wall episode just illustrates what we are missing on TV nowadays.
Absolute class so funny.I saw a programme a couple of years back that showed more clips of eric on world of sport, i think it was called 40 greatest christmas shows.
Brilliant -takes you back. SO, it WAS 1977, amazing. Yeah, I can remember seeing it live. Dickie Davis was a great sport. Great to see that someone has put the Eric and Ern Texaco ad on with James Hunt too.
They say making people laugh is the hardest job in the world and yet Eric Morcombe made it look so easy. These clips demonstrate the mans a GENIUS. He may have died 20+ years ago but he still lives on in our hearts. May clips like this last forever. We Love you Eric!
That's so funny it made me laugh out loud! And I haven't lauged out loud since my ex-married-boyriend dumped me (again) for the second time last Wednesday. I'm a beautiful woman, IT'S YOUR LOSS!! RIP Eric Morecambe!
Thank u eric (and ern) for giving us so many great moments. Also thank u to the inventor of videotape as its because of them we can still view legends like this.
Many think this was done for a Xmas tape (a series of outakes and contrived performances to be enjoyed by TV staff). In fact Eric and Dickie were great mates and had been out for a few on a Friday night, with Eric staying over. He asked if he could appear on WoS the next day and Dickie agreed (although it is not noted what LWT management said!). This entire episode was transmitted.
There is also a scene with Eric wrestling with Dickie with a hankie between his glasses wish someone could put that clip on. Its on the same show from 1977
grew up with eric&ernie being the top comedians on tv,no-one could touch them-eric,s style of humour was his own&therefore could not be copied by other comedians-that put him in a league of his own-his "off the top of the head"one liners will ALWAYS leave this great guy sadly missed.
In his early years, Evans performed in the style of Morecombe, notably on Channel 4's "Don't Forget Your Toothbrush", where he sang 'Bring Me Sunshine' at the end of each edition, as well peppering his delivery with lots of Eric-style "way-heeeys!".

I remember Eric being on this when I was a kid, and I doubt it was as early as '75. Love them both. Dickie Davies is a hero.

I think Lee Mack's impersonation is the best I've yet seen - he's too skinny and the rest of his standup is mediocre, but his Morecambe is spot on.
