deadpan instead of smarmy- good advice. its a tough ask in political comedy i think, thats why parody characters like Stephen Colbert or even Borat work so well. They are not representing themselves when they ridicule. The detachment works.
Comedy theory...ugh. I know I know, this is more like notes. But I like him just fine the way he is and somehow I don't think the career path issues are a deadpan vs. smarmy thing. But ya' knew that.
