  • The Sax seemed to be a common theme on tv show intro/themes from 1985-95

  • damn work that sax!

  • I thought about something: is it me or did both Donahue and his Multimedia Entertainment sister show Sally Jessy Raphael both utilized sax-driven theme songs during the early-mid '90s?

  • Thumbs up if you remember this fucking classic from the 90s. I know I have!

  • W00t! Thanks for posting, this is incredible :-)

  • I believe this theme started in 1990 (I noticed two show endings, one with the earlier '80s theme and a later episode with this theme in the background, with the copyright information moving before the "Services provided and paid by the following" spiel instead of before the Multimedia logo.

  • oh my god this was required viewing in my house when i was a kid.. my mom would take the tv from us and watch donahue and oprah...i remember the theme in the back of my mind to this day....

  • i loved this show, sally, and operah.

  • He looks so happy. Probably because he's married to Marlo Thomas.

  • Women who name their breasts! TODAY ON DONAHUE!

  • @FutureNewsAnchor LMFAO!!

  • @DBR00 I can't believe I didn't get feedback on that until now!

  • @FutureNewsAnchor I thought it was classic! So Donahue! :)

  • aired on WVTM Channel 13 in Birmingham back in the days

  • themes have no flavor now. Just alot of pretentious complexity.

  • I love this theme

  • i remember viewer fan mail. he read a letter of fan saying please stop playing that annoying sax theme~!

  • this was really good. there is also another theme during "sad" stories, which was slower. and also the extended version which played to signal commericial break.

  • What a groovy tune

  • There is only one word that can describe Donahue's theme from 1994......

    SMOOTH.

  • Does anyone have Donahue's 80's theme? That's my fav.

  • @scottievand I know..mine too

  • I love this theme.

  • damn, i remember this like it was yesterday

  • I want a dance mix of this theme! Does someone have it?!

  • Oooh, thank you for bringing back a semi-vital part of my childhood. :-)

  • by the way, no one is a bigger fan of the donahue show then me!!

  • hey have you guys heard the longer version of this theme? ususally when they are going to break for commercial you hear it int he background, and its pretty cool...anyone have it?

  • I agree too! I love this theme! I used to watch Phil everyday after school till he got cancelled. It brings back so many memories! Thanks for posting. There was also another theme just like this one, but was used during his commercial breaks and it was a bit slower than this one.

  • The Phil Donahue show is a classic!!. My uncle and his ex wife were on the show once in the late 80's so he had his 1 hour of fame!

  • I remember this one like it was yesterday. I ws in high school when this theme was used.

  • Thanks to Wikipedia, I been wondering about what the heck was my mother watching when I was 4-5 years old. I keep hearing that theme, but I hardly payed attention to what it was. That theme was in my head all these years, and I finally found it! I could have recalled that Donahue was a bit fatter and the theme was slower, but that must be me.

  • I was young when this one aired on TV

  • One of the best memorable theme songs! I grew up with this!

  • Damn, this is when TV was TV. Now nothing is entertaining in all of those shitty ass cable stations.

  • How long was this theme used for? Does anyone know?

  • C. 1992 to the cancellation in '96.

  • I *think* it was used as early as 1991.

  • @barber747 it was used from sometime in 1990 until Donahue was cancelled in '96.

  • I think this is the only theme of Donahue that I remember. Love the jazzy comp.!

  • Has it only been 14 years? and I love his politics

  • Best theme song, best talk show host of all-time. And I HATE his politics!! Lol.

  • bostonnewsarchives give me the audio to this clip, because I want this to be my entrance theme song once I debut as a PRO WRESTLER!!! OHHHHHHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHH!!

  • I was little when this show was on the air, but to my knowledge...it aired in Houston on KTRK.

  • Since we're talking about what stations aired Donahue, I'll chip in.

WTSP aired it in the Tampa area.

  • "Donahue" aired in St. Louis on KSDK 5 (NBC affiliate) at 9 am Mon - Fri.

  • he was old even back then

  • I like this theme song

  • I watched this on WUSA-TV 9 in the 90's (I think)

  • WTVD was my station for "Donahue." That's channel 11 in the Durham/Raleigh, NC area.

  • there's also the same theme, but a different version. it was more slower and usually when the topic was more serious or sad

  • i used to watch donahue on WMAR-TV2 in the early 90's.

  • Im from the Delmarva Peninsula and we used to get WMAR abc,was at the time right.

  • nope, it was NBC

  • WMAR was CBS from 1948 to 1981, then NBC from 1981 to 1995 when it joined ABC.

  • Out of all the themes for the Phil Donahue show, this one tops them all! One of my favorites! Thanks guys!

  • I've seen this show in the 90's. The theme had more of a retro nightclub cue to it.

  • Did you notice the twin towers in the NYC skyline

  • TWO THINGS...CAN SOMEONE GIVE ME THE INTRO TO THE DONAHUE SHOW FROM THE 80s AND THE END CREDITS FROM THE SHOW (INCLUDING THE ADS AND THE MULTIMEDIA LOGO) FROM THE 80s AND 90s? I WILL APPRECIATED IF SOMEONE DID THAT FOR ME!!! DONAHUE IS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE TALK SHOWS!!!!

  • No, that was in the 70's throught 1985 that they used the scrolling logo.

  • Didn't the 1985 version's opening have the show's logo playing over a city background? I remember this intro of Donahue the most! He jumped the shark when his show fell on the trashy-gimmick bandwagon w/ Sally, Maury, and Jerry, though.

    Thanks for this intro!!!

  • I wish he Had That one.

  • Somebody out there needs to put the original/80s funk theme. That was timeless.

  • I have no idea why I like this but I do for some strange reason. thanks for uploading it.

  • i disagree this one is great

  • The Donahue theme in the 80's was the best!..this one from the 90's sucks!

  • I actually like this theme, but of course nothing beats the earlier ones. This jazzy tune was written and performed by Don Grady of "My Three Sons" fame.

  • I remember this show, it was on at 5pm just before the news. Yes, Back in the day....

  • Back in the day....
