I dunno. Maybe it's just me, but the 0:06-0:10 area sounds a lot like the beginning of the theme to me. It's probably more coincidental than anything because I'm sure that if you played every Nintendo theme backwards, or slowed down, or sped up, or high pitched, or low pitched, you were guaranteed to find a segment that sounded like it eventually. So it probably wasn't deliberate. It's still neat, though!

It is there - listen in from 0:06 the piano bit. If you listen closely, you'll find it there. You have to know the song well to hear it there though.

I get the feeling his song is split between the different parts. The 16th notes in the melody and then the other notes in the counter melody and bass. It's tricky and it could just be cuz it's 2AM but I swear I heard it in the forwards version.

That may very well be, however... Looking at previous games, one discovers that Totaka's Song is usually hidden pretty deep, but is never distorted beyond recognition once found. To hide it in the main theme of a game, and backwards, would be doing the exact opposite. Sorry folks, keep looking...
