  • I'm here because of Vintage TV.

  • Me gusta

  • thumbs up if you came here because of Dom Joly's Cymbal Man!

  • 18 out of their tiny (not brilliant) mind to dislike this.

  • If you like this then listen to The National.

  • Shame on you! This is so brilliant!

  • Best line ever and thats it.....

  • thanks to everyone else including video responses with Furniture - Brilliant Mind - it was the only song i was looking for....

  • Hell, Yes!!

  • It´s not the best year in music, but I was 19 at that year and every time I hear something from the year 1986, it feels so good and it brings so many happy memories! Thanks for this video too!

  • what a brilliant track

  • fuckin adverts!!!!!!! whats all that about???

  • @MOONST0MP Selling stuff??

  • genkey.weebly.com

  • Awesome tune,Great year.Brilliant decade.

  • 25 years on, still not tired of hearing this.

  • 17 dislikes?

They must be out of their unbrilliant minds!

  • from, some kind of wonderful, a classic john hughes film

  • He has the voice of a sad angel.

  • judgedreadmusic

  • another one hit wonder like Flash and the Pan

  • 33 sec into the video: look! it's a BBW! I didn't think fat people could be on telly! Let alone play guitar or do anything skilful at all... (that was sarcastic, in case you didn't realize)

Ah, back in the day when musicians weren't picked for their ability to fit into sleazy, size 0 costumes, but for their ACTUAL MUSICAL ABILITY! SCANDALOUS! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!!!

  • Look like Dawn French on bass

  • @bigballs1967 -she looks like Dawn French? cuz there is only one fat girl in all of england???

She doesn't look anything like Dawn French.

  • Dom Jolly

  • My favourite song of all time

  • How can I have missed this one? A gem from the 80s uncovered. Thanks

  • I am that this stage, help me or let me help you

  • Great song.

  • Lead singer looks like a young Tom Cruise!

  • @cheekyleopard were u drinking when u put this tom cruise? lol

  • @cheekyleopard were u drinking when u put the lead singer looks like tom cruise? lol

  • @Yorkshiregirl1967

    Same nose, lol.

  • @Yorkshiregirl1967 Must be! What an insult! Who's want to look like that cheesy, disgusting, hairless, goofy, egomaniacal, midget git?! & to thestevencrane yes 1986 was one of their best years for music. Kim Wilde, Sandra Cretu, Duran Duran, Alphaville, Bangles, A-ha, OMD, China Crisis & Cyndi Lauper were all top-class album acts with CDs out that year, and tonnes of cool singles acts filled all the gaps in between. It was even the year ABBA were supposed to get back together-but that failed.

  • thanks dom joly!

  • I was 15 in 1986 a mixed up goth, pyscho billy, soccer casual. With a Horde of records, the music was brilliant.

  • tastic song, am a young lady from that era, not young now toh, lol :) ty 4 the song xx

  • I'm 2 and I love 80s music!

  • thumbs up if you think 1986 was one of the best years for music

  • @thestevencrane was stuck in the army in germany but the tunes were awesome

  • @thestevencrane Nah, great song but 1986 was the year that music went down hill !! late 70s and early 80s was so much better.

  • back 2 the good times

  • From a great album that I have sadly lost

  • should be in a movie

  • @TheYellowellies it is i heard it in Some kind of Wonderful, which also has a great soundtrack :) I recommend to watch it =)

  • @Magsiscool I have heard other people say this but it isnt really is it? The intro comes on at one point for about 4 seconds. It deosnt even get to the singin part. If you blink you miss it!

  • Remember seeing these at Moles club in Bath in 1986 just after this single came out...great song unfortunately the rest of the set was utter cock.

  • No expense spared on the video for this classic tune!! (Associates' Part Fears Two didn't get one at all, did it?) They must have been out of their minds.

  • nice video, great job

  • absolute BRILLIANT ,classic .

  • Really good mind.

  • cool video, what a great song

  • ~~ Good tune ~~

  • HurricaneUK

You question my sanity if you like, but I remember the 70s and the three-day weeks, the power cuts, the endless strikes for the most pathetic of reasons by Marxist twats like Scargill, Red Robbo, Gormley etc, who thought they had some God-given right to bring the country to its knees. Union leaders were the disease, Maggie was the cure.

  • Sorry, you lost me there. Yes fuck you too, before you thought of it....Gaylord. Fact.

  • flaxonx3, I don't what orifice you're talking out of but it isn't your mouth. '86 was the year after the likes of Scargill and co were stuffed by this country's most popular prime minister. And good fucking riddance to the Marxist commie bastards too. They picked a fight and got whupped. The public supported Maggie - she won 3 straight elections. It was only the shithouse loony left that hated her.

The 80's were shite musically apart from one or two gems like this.

  • @sgh1963 You're as mad as the Blessed Margaret is now.

  • @hurricaneUK the best ever

  • Some records capture the feel of a year, this record captures the emotion of 1986. It was a gloriously unassuming year before it all started going down the pan with greedy graceless bastards in 1987, Thatcher's acolytes laying the seeds for where we are now.

  • WTF?!? who is FURNITURE? this is a MICRODISNEY song. T'is an old fave- i have the LP right here- or am I out of my brilliant mind??

  • @peterchoyce Written by Jim Irvin of Furniture, and originally recorded by them.

  • you cant beat the 80s

  • I think 15pepole r out of their minds..

    lol ;)

  • IF THIS IS BILGE YOU NEED A KICKING TO WHAKE YOU UP ,,,,,,,,,

  • I discovered this by accident on a cd someone burned, it's a real treasure.

  • This was a bit of a classic. However as one hit wonders go, so was Kung foo fighting!

I paid good money to see this bunch of, up their own arse tossers "perform" in Aberdeen on the back of this single. Worst gig ever.... They were all in the huff about who knows what and the gig was about forty minutes tops. Any chance of a refund 23 yrs later? ( yes I do hold a grudge from that long ago!)

  • @Iclimbthereforeiam

There are parts of the world where they hold grudges for centuries for far lesser things. Lol...

( BTW, Weren't they all up their own arses in the 1980's ?)

  • JUST PLAIN AWESOME!

  • Great song..... I thought he sounded a lot like Ian Donaldson from H2o on this song...

  • brilliant

  • Its total pish ,bawbags

  • I was there, in Bucharest, 1986, at Polivalenta. We were so young!

  • @agoia2000 Seriously? Oh wow...

  • my first ever 12" :)

  • @redhed36 have you had another?????

  • Great!

  • @fireincair0 Are we talking vinyl or boabie

  • Wow this takes me back.....love it.

  • I ACTUALLY LOVED THIS SONG,FROM THE MOVIE SKOW AND I HAD THE SOUND TRACK...

  • Oh those eighties tunes! Kids today, can they say the same about their music 20 years later?

  • i agree this is from the time music was music not this modrn copying

  • Great tune...one of the 80's best!

  • A "BRILLIANT" SONG or what??.Every Word clear and a very well put together tune.

    Utterly brilliant.

  • I lived on this in 1988.

  • if you can be arssed to read what i mean,i like the 80s better .themotogavlas84,and yes i can make music i play guitar and keyboard, respect others choices, not just your own

  • Love the song.. Love the movie... Favorite Movie Soundtracks from "Some Kind of Wonderful"

  • A Classic!! xxx

  • a song to weep . definetely !

  • Record companies would be falling over themselves to sign this lot if they were around today.

  • i saw furniture a dozen times, places like the harsleden mean fiddlerin london. criminally under rated. she gets out the scrapbook is a simply wonderful song

  • @leeofthfc - I carried their drums in for them once when I saw them at the Mean Fiddler, great band in a great venue....

  • I hid this in the gas cupboard when it came out. ( on tape- I got found out) Today I would hide in a more secure location.

  • a great song, but the Joy Division influence is far too obvious.

  • @tusskmusic totally, the intro the big "dan-nan-na-nerrrr!" guitar sound, clearly big fans of JD.

  • ...will always remind me of going to an athletics meeting feeling really nervous but at the same time thinking this song was going to really big hit....fyi (the song wasn´t and I had a crap race)

  • this was in some kind of wonderful!

  • Miss Amanda Jones

  • 80'music like this is class thanks 2 you tube never forgotton

  • Absolutely awesome tune. I dont care what anyone says, 80s pop music is so so much better than recent stuff. It was all about the music and having fun those days, now its remixes of classic tunes and its all a big money war. Its sickening.

  • I had forgotten how much I love this song and the SKOW soundtrack. Oh, 80s. You did have some real gems, didn't you? It wasn't all Vanilla Ice...

  • THIS IS FANTASTIC WHO R THEY ANY INFO?

  • @150rents : Singer is Jim Irvin who was a writer for Mojo magazine late '90s and early '00's. Album has been re-released a couple of weeks ago.

  • @Efrasnel thanx will for album x

  • This song was used in "Some kind of Wonderful". It is really a good song. I really like to hear this song.

  • i love the 80s talk talk, depeche mode and anyone else who gave us a choice in good music not like todays so called talent,

  • @cloudbuster66

MAKE MUSIC YOURSELF THEN, MR " CRITICIZER"

  • @cloudbuster66 please. there's tons of good stuff today, as always, like the 80's. take a listen: jack white, lcd soundsystem, mumford & sons, portishead, king fantastic, the shins, beck, isobel campbell & mark lanegan, das racist, trombone shorty, daft punk, grizzly bear, deer tick, the black angels... etc etc forever and ever. music will be good as long as there are people making it.

  • It's bloody glorious, how can anyone call this bilge ?

  • @FurnessAndy they must me out of there Brillaint minds LOL

  • perfect song.

  • @elvisdillon..... Obviuosly someone with an anxt attitude, (if you don't know what that means I know your OLD enough to look it up). I bet you were pissed when you wrote your qoute. Doesn't feel quite the same now as when you wrote it...Does it?

  • @elvisdillon ur Bollocks , u Bollocks!

  • On and On

  • One of THE best tracks EVER recorded. Makes me so emotional as it's so beautiful and so truthful.

The title alone is pure GENIUS +

  • Only found out yesterday my friends sister was in the video

  • Fantastic. It took me ages to find this.

  • Thanks for a great song always loved it Classic

  • Excellent song - the last great year for New Wave. Oh, to have such a musical decade again!

  • One of the best songs of my life. There's something very fallen-superhero about it. Reminds me of Blake's 7 ending. Bring back singer songwriters.

  • Yeah, but not this one!!!

  • I watched "some kind of wonderful" the other day. Wasnt Mary Stuart Masterson hot? I loved the whole sondtrack.

  • Yes, Mary Stuart Masterson was hot.

  • No, I don't want to turn my face into a cartoon and I don't want to watch PopXfactoridol. I want to listen to songs that are as good now as they were 20 years ago. 24?? Fuckin hell!! I'm 40!!

  • I had the 7" of this , my brother dropped some hash on it and melted part of it . I nearly fucking killed him , excellent sound .

  • TIMELESS CLASSIC ! BRILLIANT !

  • superb song - beautiful lyrics and wonderful 80s teenage memories......

I wore some dodgy stuff in the 80s, but god there was some fantastic music about!

  • I actually saw them when I was 16 in a gig at Cairo University..was so cool to see a British Band in Egypt !!! what memories!

  • when i listen to this am 17 again with not a care in the world.only trauma was deciding what to wear!

  • top f*ing song- apologies for the profanity but i listened to this so much back then, and totally un publicised, top tunes at their best....

  • how could they be one hit wonders

  • Brilliant, I think anything X factor has to offer pails into insignificance... All dire, lifeless dribble, music for the masses. Why would anyone want it, when you can have inspirational stuff like this... Come back the 80's I miss you ...

  • @petesapwell

mate so well said - the crap today would nt stand a chance without all the technical assistance against the 80's singers

  • great fucking song

  • l loved the 80s and will gladly admit to rememebering and enjoying the decade

  • I agree......what a fantastic decade for music. A song can evoke so many teenage memories for me!

  • the long hot summer of 86 superb
