Your hair is beautiful and I love the color on you. Would you say the color 59 is equivalent to a 1B or 1 hair color? My natural hair is more like a 1B hair color but I want to cover up some grey hairs?
I made sure I browsed thru the comments before I asked this question but on you currently use 4 bottles for your retouch but what was the total amount of bottles used for your entire head during your first application and what was your hair length at the time. I will be colouring my hair within the next few weeks and I don't want to run the risk of running out of product during the application process. I (myself) am armpit length stretched/4b/ dense/fine strands. Thx in advance.
I dye my hair black too and yes I am getting brown hair and i dont like it. My maxi glide makes my hair brown but as you may know I love how my hair look straight. Its the best of both worlds.
Dye is such a harsh term....As a colorist (in a previous career) we prefer the term coloring your hair. Dye implies you've killed it...great job though excellent safety measures.
If you guys want to lighten your hair, you could mix in honey (raw is better, but it can be the regular kind from the bear bottle. hee.) into your conditioner. It lightens hair gradually (you'll see results after a handful of times conditioning) without harming your hair (I know peeps suggest lemon sometimes and it is quicker, but that can make hair really dry and the lemon only really works when you're out in the sun).
I wonder if premature grey hair is genetic or it's due to other factors [processed foods we eat, medicines taken, products used on hair...]. I've had premature grey hairs since I was 14/15 [a couple of strands] and they haven't always stayed in the same places [I use to have them in the back on my hair, now they are located on the top]. I pluck them out from the roots, lol
@Ms360sista it's actually pronounced (BEE-GEN). Found out through a commercial...I thought it was pronounced (Bay-jeen) for the longest until recently.... : )
@yeulikespix your very rite! Everbody's chemical makeup doesn't agree with everything. Patch testing is Extremely important! My dad went 2 get some grays touched up @ walmart & the stylist didn't patch test the dye & his whole head swelled up Very badly! It was heartbreaking 2 see the pics! He had 2 file a lawsuit & won thankfully.
hey soror, & sister n the Lord. FYI. I've used Bigen (pronounced bay-g' ing/ g like in genre) for yearssssssss (b4 and after I went natural). it covers very well & is a lot less messier than henna, & although it is free of peroxide and other harmful ingredients, it is still a chemical and WILL dry out! Henna is the only true NATURAL hair color. google its harmful ingredients to learn more.
LOL@ "dirty brown hair". It runs in my family, but so far it seems I have been spared :-) Thanks for sharing this! I've seen this dye and thought about using it, but due to a previous bad hair coloring experience, I've been hesitant. I'll watch this again before I make my final decision. Thanks again! Blessings...
looks good. My husband loves bigen too. I know some people are very allergic don't know what the difference is, but he has had no problems? Your hair reallly does look healthy and moisturized.
The color is pretty on you. I used to use Bigen (brown black). Other than relaxing the kink a tiny bit, it was the best color I had used. I was scared away by the ppd level. I now use the Diety America color change shampoo. It's all right but it doesn't last that long.
Hello, naturalbrwnbabydol, I love your channel!!! I am a licensed cosmetologist, and I use Bignen as well, on clients and myself. I always use this product after I have shampooed the hair. By doing so you don't use so much color. Just a tip:-)
Thanks sooo much for this vid! I was thinking of coloring my hair and saw a Bigen commercial recently so I wondered if anyone I could trust had actually used this brand. My hair is definitely very dry on its own, so once I figure out a regimen to retain moisture I will be trying this brand. :)
I am also natural and I recently dyed my hair a lighter brown. But I wished I had seen your video before hand. It is now very dry and doesn't hold shine and my scalp is itchy. I don't like the way the color came out and want to dye it darker, but not sure about this? I also switched from Kinky Curling Custard to Miss Jessies, but not sure if this is having an effect with dryness.
Ok so I have a question I had my hair dyed professionally a reddish blonde color and I was loving it but now I'm really desiring my dark hair back. I'm natural and I've only dyed my hair that one time. Can I use this Bigen to dye my hair back to black or should I wait and let it just grow out?
Hi, I truly appreciate this vid. I'm seriously considering dying my hair. It's too dark for me. It so black with sprinkles of gray. I want to go lighter. So, I'll def have a professional put my color in my hair. Thanks for sharing.
Just sharing some info, I found a liquid henna hair dye @ earthfare - "Surya Brasil". I love it. Natural ingred, not harsh and you can use as often as need. It also comes in powdered form, but I prefer the already mixed version.
my hair for weeks. Just touching my hair hurt. When I did comb it there were pieces of shed skin in the comb. Also, my hair continued to shed. However less and less. I had thick fairly long hair. Since then all but my hairline and temple have recovered. This was one the most tramatic experiences I have ever had in my 46 years. This did not happen the 1st time I used this hair dye but the 3rd or 4th time. I dyed my hair twice a year. Please know I write this comment out of love and care.
This is a very emotional comment for me. However, I had to tell you of my personal experience with Bigen. Three years ago I used one of their black hair dyes to dye my natural pre-mature grey hair. I had a severe allergic reaction. First my scalp started to itch then hurt. I shampooed my hair but the pain got worse and worse. It was like someone had held a flame to my scalp. Then my hair shed my the hand fulls. I lost almost 1/3 of my hair in 1 day. I could not comb nor wash (continued)
@oceanscastlesflowers I def know this is out of love...The hard part about most of any product is you never know how your hair responds until you use it. I have used bigen 2 years with no averse effects.....Im sure I will fine others, but I feel its no more detrimental then bleaching or lightening my hair....Ive done that when I was relaxed.
@oceanscastlesflowers I'm sorry to hear you had this issue. In the future though & this goes for anyone with any product: PATCH TEST. If you are going to wash your canvas Coach purse with regular laundry detergent: patch test. If you are going to paint your bathroom pink, get a sample/samples & patch test (it might save you from a peptobismol catastrophe). If you are using anything new, especially "permanent" anything (hair color/relaxer) on your lovely locks please patch test.
@oceanscastlesflowers check out this article on livestrong this may be y u had an alergic reaction the some of the ingredients used overlap with those used to die rubber tires
looks great! i too have to dye my hair. my mom has red hair so even though im black as the street was my hair grows in this red orange color (not burgundy, but red like a ginger!) so i gye my hair black too. it definitely makes my hair look fuller and healthier too, as it has done for you too!
Please can you show how you did that style at the end my mom has been asking me to a twist out on her natural hair and I think this would be so cute for her.
Looks good. I am from where you'll be moving too! Big difference from where you are now. So it will be quiet an adjustment, but your a strong woman and God bless!
Bigen is a very good product. I used it for years and had no problems. Two years ago I decided I wanted to have a change and put dark and lovely on my hair and it was a disaster! My hair started falling out and I learned that bigen is not totally natural and it is sprayed with PPD. The same chemical that is put in henna that promises specific colors found in BSS. That was before my HHj. Now I only use BA henna mixed w/indigo.
Sweety I love ur hair n I just had to comment on this!!! Sweet the bigen (By-Jen) is the reason I am natural!! That dye ruined my relaxed hair beyond repair to the point where my ponytail came off and left the rest of my hair!!! I follow a fellow youtuber by the name of MSMIKO and she is a liscened hair stylist who also give classes!! She has a video explaining how this dye works!! U shud check it out before u apply again!! It won't hurt to know!!all the best!! Keep posting!
I really want to Thank You SO much for this vid because I want to dye my hair so bad.. without damaging it!. Your hair looks very moisturized, shiny & soft not dry at all! Love it!!
I have that same dirty brown color too. Thanks for the video I feel more comfortable dying my hair jet black and i will try that brand of dye as well.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! My hair has been growing, but it's growing into that dirty brown that you mentioned also. I was wondering about what to do with it-I've been really discouraged because though it's growing, it kinda looks dirty and not nice and black like it once was. No, I'm not old....hehe. I think that I will try that Bigen that you use. I can get it at my local beauty store, so I will definitely try it.
I used Nutrutint. Check it out at vita cost. I usually get at Whole Foods which is an organic store love it I use copper blonde on my natural hair. It does not contain peroxides or harsh chemicals. I o leave it on longer then the instruction
wow its nice i like it very much i have the same problem with the ashy looking hair and i also have grays but i do not think black hair looks good on me maybe because i have never had black hair. what do you think is it better to use a permanent colour or a semi for gray hair just though of that since i heard you say you use this colour every six months or so maybe less stress on the hair
If you're trying to be safe, which it seemed since u pointed out the lack of ammonia/peroxide...though it is an effective dye, Bigen Hair dye has a 12.5% PPD content, and may cause severe allergic reactions. 6% is the maximum allowed by FDA law. The safest way to dye hair black is probably henna and indigo...jus my 2cents...I used to use Bigen w/ no problem though
Oooooh your hair looks lovely :) thanks for showing and yes you hair is thick!! I think I might give it a try - if I was to dye my hair for the first time would I do all over my hair or just do the roots like you did in the video?
I used to use Bigen and loved it until I decided I wanted to lighten my hair. It stained my hair shaft so badly that the color only took at the roots. My stylist ended up having to just color it back to black.. I now just stick Jazzing rinses.
@MsChanteJ72 wowza.....well I plan to remain black forever...If I do change it up I'll have to bear with allowing it to grow out. Thanks for the info chica!
@MsChanteJ72 i had the same thing happen to me! i'm never dying my hair black permanently again. sticking to rinses. OR buying wigs if i want a color outside of black. lol.
@Beauxsky That's stuff is more potent than what they want you to believe. And girl that's only half of the story! I was relaxed at the time, so about two weeks later my hair broke off right where the color had been applied! I had no choice but to cut my hair off (which was SL at the time). Since that day, I'm soo cool on Bigen. . .lol
My hair is brown, too, and I hate it, but I'm afraid of the extra care from color, but I might try this because I would prefer if my hair was black. I will probably wait until next year though, since I don't have grays, and I keep hoping I'll learn to like it brown, since it's my natural color.
love the intro song :D

This is the only hair color I use for the past 6 years & I always have great results.

Thanks for uploading this video. My hair is a weird off black, faded color and I really need to dye it.
