confederacy & civil war = started off more about "state's rights" to question the authority of the federal government...only later when they were winning did the North make the prime motive of the war to that of ending slavery and emancipation over that of preserving the Union (though many whites on both sides still put states' rights/preservation of the Union priority over what they felt was the peripheral dispute over slavery, due to their prejudice).
The redaction of history in giving precedence to "freeing the slaves" for the main cause of the civil war has persisted to the present day in schools, to where its now common belief.

The Union had slavery too, the emancipation proclamation was only to stop slavery in the CSA/south, not the Union, which freed no one.( I believe just a propaganda attempt). and thus making the war about slavery instead of state rights! The Union had slavery too, the emancipation proclamation was only to stop slavery in the CSA/south, not the Union, which freed no one.( I believe just a propaganda attempt). and thus making the war about slavery instead of state rights! There were about the same number if not more slaves in the Union. BTW blacks/african-americans owned slaves too.

It seems like he's just ignorant. I don't care that he is in college, I am too but I'm a History major. He is only doing it to make his parents mad just being a rebel.
