  • efpasik, I saw a wonderful performance of Halevay last night by Cantors Michael Smolash, Rachael Kalmowitz, and Darcie Sharlein.

YouTube won't let me include the link to Michael Smolash's website, but he has one. If you google him you can find it. He might be able to help you.

  • efpaski...you might contact Cantor Michael Smolash. I saw him, Cantor Rachael Kalmowitz and one other cantor perform this last night at a Cantors Concert in Michigan. Wonderful performance.

internet, a good source for yiddish song

    lyrics.

  • What are they saying in Yiddish?

  • I wish it good be true

  • What does halevai mean?

  • It is the yiddish saying for "G-d willing" similar to the spanish "ojaLa" or to the arabic "inch Allah".

  • The Barry Sisters used to visit the Catskill Mountains when i was singing at Grossingers

Orchestrations by Abe Ellstein who i appeared with on WEVD radion nyc

  • @mierpaul

  • He was great and I used to listen to him on the American Jewish Caravan of Stars on Sunday morning over radio station WMGM 1050AM in New York. My parents had Moishe Oysher and the Barry Sisters records and now they are in my collection. While Jewish music has become less Yiddish and more Hebrew, with such stars as Mordechai Ben David and Avraham Fried, listening to this recording brings back many happy memories. Thank you for sharing this recording.

  • yes same here ! I now have all my parents collections of music and i love it.
