Though, I dislike how rude Mizeriq is with his opinion, I think he's right. It'll be awhile before in game graphics look like that, simply because of the money problems. If money wasn't an issue, though, I think we could have that kinda thing in no more than 2 years, lol. It's amazing the kinda work that can be done when people actually put effort into something.. I think Developers will have a good grasp on the those consoles by then and will be coming out with some spectacular stuff.

Only the marine consists of over 5 mil polygons, it broke the renderer blizzard used so they had to buy a high end renderer used for movies from Pixar and rendering this thing takes ages using top of the line computers where only the dedicated graphics cost in the 5 digits. There's no way in hell you'll have something thats thousands of times more powerful, so it would render this in REAL TIME and have it affordable to the end user in just one decade.

Even my prediction is optimistic, because current technology is very close to reaching it's maximum potential, since the size of atoms is a barrier for transistor size.

Financial problems also exist, current generation games are generally shorter and cost more, because production costs have risen to tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars per game(producing WoW which was released 5 years ago required over $200 000 000, imagine what a game that looks 1000 times better would cost).

My reasoning is look at the leaps and bounds we've taken in technology in the past 10 years alone. I do think that sooner or later we will have graphics like that or close to it though to be honest I dont have anything to support that. Also if there is very little chance of improvement in videogames then why bother coming out with another generation of gaming consoles.

Well, computer technology has been improving at roughly the same rate in the last 60 years. According to Moore's law, it improves twice every two years, so 10 years ~ 32 times.

Improvement in video games does not lie in graphics, it is in the gameplay mechanics and A.I, photorealistic graphics aren't needed to have fun with a game, it's just that the marketing of games concentrates on them, because they are easy to market to the mainstream, while it's not really what games are about.

Stylized graphics are easier to create and look better, because the human brain can spot even tiny inconsistencies in "realistic" graphics, while the games that aren't trying to be super realistic do not have to deal with this problem, so in the graphics department games should concentrate on having their own unique and beautiful style instead of trying to be realistic like every other game. If they just try that, they'll achieve photorealism some day and then what? A dead end? Style > realism.
