Aha! I've been hearing some of Kurt's music on the local jazz station here in San Antonio, but never got his name. Incredible vocal instrument! Definitely a great singer. Love his styling. Thanks for the post!
Man Ernie still kills to this day!!! Kurt is by far the most innovative and skillful male vocalist in the jazz world today! He is more than a vocalist, he is a true musician. A rare quality to find in a singer in our time!
This is truly an above the music experience. Ernie precipitates a musical entrainment to his brilliant Sax. Kurt you added another layer to your shine thanks to Ernie. You not only sang and scatted, I believe you even spoke in tongues on this one. The numinous was hovering near. Talk about upping your game. Welcome to musical blessedness.
How many times can I 'like' this? This has got to be one of the most remarkable performances I've ever seen on You Tube. Everything about it is near perfect.
this is one of the finest music i've ever heard. WOW i didn't know music could sound THIS good :) such a great classic by Stevie and amazing performance from this group of five.
Amazing! Can you imagine what it must have been like to be at this gig? The atmosphere they create in the video is surely only a fraction of what it was like to hear the music first hand.
I prefer this version 100x more than the one on the album--Not that the one on the album is bad, it's actually very good. It's just that Ernie Watt's solo is SO FREAKING AMAZING here!!!! I don't think Bob Mintzer could have touched it if he tried.
I think Kurt and Ernie were chatting about which constellation they were just bouncing off of...lol
I am counting the Daze till The Gate hits, I mean, so far....this one...'stepping out'...'hakuna matada'...er...i mean 'mada kudasai' sp? One of my favorite King Crimson Songs, I mean, I haven't looked forward to an album this much since I was kid.
Thank you Kurt and Jazzolive. Olive you. Maybe the best Elling concert on Utube.
@pbksound I just came back from the Detroit Jazz festival hours ago.I was so lucky to see this group perform. It will be forever in my memory.Just sensational.
I met him in Detroit 2 years back, he studied theology prior to his music career. When we shook hands he didn't let go. Special man. A moment I will never forget.
I was singing this song all morning not knowing why. I was in Detroit on Sunday, missed him this year.
@pbksound Holy hell yes!! That solo was the TRUTH! This whole thing is just so, so special. TheJazzolive, thank you SO much for posting this great performance.
Went to see Kurt Elling in Montreal last month, and got to chat with him and Drummer Kobe Watkins after the concert. "Golden Lady" will be on the new album they finished recording along with "Steppin' Out", The Beatles "Norwegian Wood", and EWF's "After the Love is Gone". Expect it to be released in Feb 2011
@scribe114 After the love is gone is the shit! I heard him perform it in chicago. If I can find the video I will post it. Also, watch out for a song called dream clock on the new album.
@Ch4113nge I was at the Mill for both of those shows in March, I guess I will catch you at another one of KE's gigs. Most of the songs from the new album he will be showcasing this summer during the various Jazz fests.
@scribe114 Nice! if your from around the chicago area...he'll be in Detroit for Jazz Fest Labor Day weekend. FREE SHOW TOO! I saw him with the MJF all stars, he only played a few songs and nothing new. It was definitely a downgrade from chicago...but cool nonetheless.
I just recently discovered Kurt after hearing him sing Pat Metheny's "Minuano" on my local college jazz station. For me, no words can describe Stevie and his music and I would think other singers would be a bit intimidated with attempting any of his songs, but Kurt truly delivers on this. Now that I've discovered Kurt, I definitely want to hear a lot more of him. His voice is blue-eyed soul personified, chillingly good. What a gift this man is! I'm happy to have discovered him. :-)
This is probably my favorite song by KE. Damn just so beautiful! I've been consistently listening to this since january and it's that piano that sticks. Just unbelievable how amazing of a track this is. I cannot get it out of my head.
I was wondering what kind of music "Playit0001" was into but funnily their account is closed!! This is a beautiful song and Kurt's version is masterfully presented - I love it. I am looking forward to a release with the same free flowing swirling conveyance and warmth - can't wait
@mcclare2003 My favorite song on the album, and it is right in his wheel house would sound very good acoustically. "Rocket Love" is on the short list too.
wtf is this shit!!!!!

First this is amazing, but did anyone else see the amount of pelvic thrusting that happened around 5:45 by the sax player. that was incredible
