A lot of married men do not even buy their own clothes. The wife chooses their clothes for them. Many men are afraid to spend money at all for fear of meeting the disapproval of wifey, so even family car purchases are determined in the end by wifey.

I was beaten and abused by my wife in Corpus Christi Texas and the system there doesn't take violence against men seriously. They view everything in Texas as woman is sugar and spice, male is abuser. If you are being abused by your wife keep records, tapes, videos, photos, records of her hospital treatment for violence as they will tell her the violence against you is caused by you. That is how sick many of these programs are. Glad to see the UK is doing something to fight the stigma

@daobecca Thanks for the information, but I've been in touch with some psychologists and researches on men's victims issues. Here in the United States, most of the people trying to do the research and help male victims are... WOMEN! That's right - Over here a lot of women know that the women as victim is actually just an "industry" supported by the media. Recording DV - IPV is the way to go, like you say, if it is safe. I carry MP3's, photos and e-mail around my neck on a USB.

@daobecca I hear what you are saying. I just viewed a couple of videos that were made in Australia that spoofs some public ads that were run that portray men as the aggressors. There is specific research in Australia that shows this is not true... I have the studies on violence against men in Australia.

@daobecca For men (and women) out there who have been physically or psychologically abused and battered, ask your therapist about a treatment called EMDR. Do a search for it on YouTube... It WORKS! IT WORKS FAST! I still have severe bouts of depression, no doubt, but EMDR can wipe decades of abuse away in weeks. It is commonly used for those in the military suffering from PTSD, natural disaster survivors, rape victims, etc. It does work for those who have PTSD from domestic abuse! ASK!!

I've picked fights with boys ever since I was little, so I know this pretty well. Usually the guy gets into trouble. It is rather unfair. I would say just get out, don't try to hit back or anything. Most girls think it's ok to hit a guy cuz she won't hurt them, and might start getting used to it. I never fought a girl in my life before, but I can see that if I had to, I wouldn't get in as much trouble. Though I do get more angry if a guy attacks me instead of a girl.

This denies reality and does not help stop violence against anyone, it just builds resentment. The makers of these ads and the prime movers of the thought behind it, should be arrested and charged with hate crimes. the logic is that only young female ad execs and copy writers are 'in touch enough' with the trends and psyches of the powerful female consumer demographic, so most advertising agencies hire almost exclusively women , and mostly under 30.
A lot of married men do not even buy their own clothes. The wife chooses their clothes for them. Many men are afraid to spend money at all for fear of meeting the disapproval of wifey, so even family car purchases are determined in the end by wifey.

I was beaten and abused by my wife in Corpus Christi Texas and the system there doesn't take violence against men seriously. They view everything in Texas as woman is sugar and spice, male is abuser. If you are being abused by your wife keep records, tapes, videos, photos, records of her hospital treatment for violence as they will tell her the violence against you is caused by you. That is how sick many of these programs are. Glad to see the UK is doing something to fight the stigma

@daobecca Thanks for the information, but I've been in touch with some psychologists and researches on men's victims issues. Here in the United States, most of the people trying to do the research and help male victims are... WOMEN! That's right - Over here a lot of women know that the women as victim is actually just an "industry" supported by the media. Recording DV - IPV is the way to go, like you say, if it is safe. I carry MP3's, photos and e-mail around my neck on a USB.

There is specific research in Australia that shows this is not true... I have the studies on violence against men in Australia.

@daobecca For men (and women) out there who have been physically or psychologically abused and battered, ask your therapist about a treatment called EMDR. Do a search for it on YouTube... It WORKS! IT WORKS FAST! I still have severe bouts of depression, no doubt, but EMDR can wipe decades of abuse away in weeks. It is commonly used for those in the military suffering from PTSD, natural disaster survivors, rape victims, etc. It does work for those who have PTSD from domestic abuse! ASK!!

Too sensitive? The sensitivity is warranted because you would NEVER see this commercial reversed in their roles. Put a bloody woman in a commercial and imply she got that way because she gave the wrong gift and you'd see a lot more attention drawn to it than simple youtube bantering. The fact is people think its "funny" when a man is beaten and bloody if it is done by a woman. Really sad to see males are discounted this way :(

yes i know that people think its funny if a woman beats a man. Reality is different. A real beating isnt funny even thought some men have a fetish of being abused by a woman. domestic violence is never funny but this commercial wasnt meant to be serious or imply beating a man is acceptable. It meant for men to think about what gifts they give and that a vacuum cleaner could be taken as insulting to a woman. and it is. so dont be so sensitive. we all need to lighten up

If they showed the same video with the women being beaten even if the video wasn't meant to be "serious" or "imply beating a woman is acceptable" you would still have an uproar.
If a woman doesn't appreciate a joke you tell it is still "sexual harrassment", even if it isn't meant to be serious. Remember the coffee commercial?

And secondly, adding to Popadibs, I thought it was the thought of the giver that counts. Maybe the vacuum was to help the women do a chore she willingly does to do her part around the house, but she finds it a hassle? You're guess as good as mine, but isn't there a possibility the woman over-reacted?
It's true people need to lighten up, but the question is who needs to the most? My money's on the vacuum guy. He's probably tense enough for them both :P

The undertone of the ad was to probably illustrate how sexist men are in the eyes of feminists.
The point of the whole thing was also probably to say that those men were sexist, but they got what was coming to them by their strong, independent,-insert ego inflating term here- wives/girlfriends.
What should've bit them in the ass was the Misandry and double-standard that came from the ad. But now I ask you, what would happen if we were to switch the genders, and it were women checking in?

Misandry is a crime, unconstitutional and unethical. There should be a law if proven punishable by imprisonment (including media institution). It's already plaguing the school system in the US. Boys are not given support in terms of reading and language skills(bias). For true christians we are commanded to love and respect everyone. Laws should equally benefit men, women, children and elderly (without bias).

Moral: Women are hugely materialistic...especially in this day and age. They are being encouraged to be independant, fair enough, but for some reason this means being massively vain and materialistic, according the adverts being broadcast around the Western world. I cringe whenever I see the ad's on TV.
Women really need to start looking at themselves, before they moan about men.

okay, first of all I'm a girl. I want to make that clear before I post.
Second, if a woman was shows in ANY of these states in a commercial, there would be an uproar! They would be shouting it promotes violence, including sexual (as the man sodomized by a vaccuum indicates) against women.
Honestly, except for the electric mixer, any one of those gifts would be welcome in my apartment. ^^
I could use them all. Except the mixer, already have one. :)

I've picked fights with boys ever since I was little, so I know this pretty well. Usually the guy gets into trouble. It is rather unfair. I would say just get out, don't try to hit back or anything. Most girls think it's ok to hit a guy cuz she won't hurt them, and might start getting used to it. I never fought a girl in my life before, but I can see that if I had to, I wouldn't get in as much trouble. Though I do get more angry if a guy attacks me instead of a girl.
