This was an early build of Sonic 2. In this build, Emerald Hill Zone is in Star Light Zone's level slot, and since they hadn't yet recorded new music, SLZ's music still plays.
I remember when that girl played it, she was so stupid not to spin dash... I don't even think she ever heard of Sonic, she was probably like, "WTF IS DIS SH*T?" XD
The Sonic 2 in the show was an early prototype that Sega gave to Nick Arcade in order to get publicity for the unreleased game. She didn't know to spin dash because there was no spin dash move in the first Sonic game, you could only run and then hit down to roll. You can't expect someone to know how to do every move in a game they have never played within 30 seconds without ever seeing so much as a manual.
For those of you who don't know, this was an early prototype of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The prototype was featured on the early 90's game show "Nick Arcade".
I wish they brought that show back...even if they used all games from the '90s...due to the lack of quality arcade games out now...it would be better than 90% of the crap that Nickelodeon has on now.
wasn't it Melissa Joan Hart that played Sonic 2? I feel bad that she lost the challenge.

Sonic's Movement was so much more fluent in the Prototype.
