NIN back when Trent was in his prime. Very aggressive and expressive music. Something nearly everyone can relate to on some level. Trent went on to make some killer records after PHM. This live performance is nothing short of awesome.Analog forever!
listen to "maybe just once" the not so rare (thanks to the net ) unrelesed cheese fest.. i still love it tho.. its pure blisery in an undefined nin moment kinda way
Dig it, does kinda sound like down in it, but I think it sounds more like terrible lie because it has some of the same type of sound effects. Also its on the same key.
Trent is a genius. He took the raw and intense sounds of Skinny Puppy and Ministry, combined that with the songwriting influences of Gary Numan, David Bowie, Queen, etc. while simultaneously breaking down more cultural barriers than Madonna and Megadeth combined. He was also even more controversial than Cobain, who was also awesome. Plus, he made MM big, and MM kinda smashed up a lot of cultural bullshit too! I'm glad Trent's alive and recovered, and continues to fix broken machines.
Let us all pray that this drummer aint gonna be the one who replaces josh freese when the band gets a new drummer at the end of the year! This song sounds lifeless compared to other live versions.
if it wasnt for skinnys "DIG IT" there wouldnt be a "DOWN IN IT" :P thier deffinatly was a liklyness between them. NIN just made that sound more audience friendly and poppy using simple structures and keeping it raw. back then anyway
Let's see NIN opened for SP once I believe. He was a huge SP fan. and this is from the late 89-90 era when most industrial acts were similar. Everything has been done and is a copy of a copy of a copy. However Manson rips off SP Live antics more then NIN in the 90's. I once met Ohgre during a live show promoting OhGr & he told me any true artist will just find little shit like that flattery for the most part. Ive seen 3 SP shows and 2 Ohgr shows and Have notice very little similarities. IMO.

@kloipu LOL... Trent himself said tht Down in It is a Skinny Puppy ripoff... (and that's actually a good thing)
KronnangDunn 1 year ago
@kloipu Sure, but NIN sounds a lot like Skinny Puppy. Skinny Puppy + U2 = NIN. And that's not a bad thing, at all.

Yeah. NIN opened for SP on the VIVIsectVI tour. I think SP influences most bands in the Industrial scene.
