The punter for Clemson (Chason) should've simply threw the ball threw the endzone on the muffed punt. If he does this, it's Clemson up 24-23. And we're kicking off to GT instead of them having it at our 10 yard line. Doesn't that make much more sense? We'd kickoff, and they'd have less than 20 seconds to get in field goal range.
God I hated this game. Was sitting right in the corner of the end zone where Johnson caught that pass too. Justin Miller was such an overrated piece of garbage, and everyone in the stadium knew that they would throw a jump ball to Johnson and that there was no way Miller was tall enough to defend it. Still can't believe we threw that game away, even with Merriweather breaking two ridiculously long TD runs, damn Tommy Bowden still couldn't figure out how to close a damn game out. Ridiculous.
when this went down, we were riding up 75 to a party...i was weeping and suddenly absolutely lost my shit. almost leaped from the car wholesale. the best moment of the reggie ball / chan gailey era, probably.
We had a worse one. When South Carolina played Florida at Florida in 07. We just tied the game, but Florida blocked the extra point then we stop them got the ball back and with a few seconds left went for a game winning field goal, it was blocked. We lost 17 to 16. Florida went on to win the national title. If we would have won, it would have been our first win in the swamp and it would have ended all hopes of a national title. Now that hurt!
and one of my greatest memories! its a close game every year, then there are years where one team just absolutely breaks down...
in my mind, the 2006 game was the greatest matchup in recent memory. Every aspect of the Clemson team, from the crowd to the players, was the most electric and amped up i think either side has ever been... heres to a great one this year!
he shoulda kicked it into the endzone. They woulda still been winning by 1 point, and GT woulda had to go like 20-30 yards in 10 seconds w/ no timeouts.
Whenever anyone makes this cliche statement, it always makes me laugh because it is impossible for the better team to lose in the game of football. Impossible.
he was a star receiver at Tech! Broke a lot of Records at Tech, ACC records and NCAA records with a horrible quarterback! Made some amazing catches like the spider man catch
@gtboy453 oh yeh, 07 and 08..the years he was injured against yall...i dont think he played a down in 08" but he almost had a full season of stats against yall this year...6 or 7 touchdowns...200 yards receiving..bout 400 yards rushing...dont think Calvin own quite as many NCAA records as spiller
@ClemsonC17 Who cares how many NCAA records he owns? He had Reggie freakin Ball throwing to him for most of his career. There's a reason he was possibly the best receiving prospect of all time. Now that he has had time to adjust with Stafford, they will be unstoppable.
This loss belongs to the punter, punting that deep any problems with the snap at all should make him think safety. I can't blame the D with a momentum shift like that.
Can't blame it on Rigsby, blame should go equally to Clemson's "D" failing, Calvin Johnson being a stud, an Clemson's failure to get a first down on 2nd and short and 3rd and short just before the attempeted punt - great play by Chris Reis.
Zach: I'm a Tech fan but probably older than you. I first followed Tech in '68 as a kid. Clemson had some great teams in the 40s and 50s. After they expanded their stadium to 40,000 in '58, the year they went to the Sugar Bowl, it wouldn't have hurt Tech to have played there a time or two, but Dodd wouldn't - he didn't go to Auburn till 1970. But you are right, in the 60s they (CU) pretty much sucked.
I love the GT/Clemson rivalry. It is just about always a great game. And yes Wes Durham is awesome, try searching for "Will Bynum, OK State" A great call there.
im an orange blooded tiger fan, but that was a very good comeback from GT, and for the love of god, would you guys saying "Ohh GT is betterrrrr" listen to what bkporter said, its a great rivalry and a damn entertaining game. leave it at that guys.
nflieg you are right the punter made the best play possible the punter tried to handle the bad snap (made by at the time the "best snapper" in the acc acoording to the announcers- a rare mistake is what im getting at) but the ball bounced over his hands o he couldnt run out of the endzone, if he kicks it then its a penalty (option of safety or ball at 1) if that occurs a td is virtually unavoidable as is a FG if they cant punch it in (where he falls on it is a 27 yard fg harder to make)
The punter didnt have enough control to turn around and punt into endzone. The ball was mis snapped and the punter dived to protect the ball. If anything you call that unlucky or bad snap, not bad coaching dumbass
It's true that GT leads the all-time series 45-24-2, but that's probably because all of the games were played at GT's stadium from 1898 until 1973. Since they've been playing mostly home-and-away, the series has been pretty even.

Someone once said "I'd rather be lucky than good." That describes GT over the past few years. If not for incredible luck they wouldn't have won a game versus Clemson in about a decade.
Hmm, using that logic, both teams have been pretty lucky against each other. Going back since 1990, GT v Clemson has been 8-9 with Tech's average win being by 3 points and Clemson's by 12 points. If we take out Clemson's blowout wins in '06 and '03 (which I will grant were not luck but sheer buttwhoopings) of 36 and 24 points, the average changes to an average of a 7 point win.
Why don't we just say that it has been a really close, competitive, entertaining rivalry for close to 20 years now?
I thought dat was Nessler

Clemson would have won, 1 pt lead and get a new punt. Coach should have told him, or practiced that scenario or something. Bad coaching
