  • i love that we can now make what was analog digital

opening up all these videos from when i wasn't alive available

    greatest thing ever

  • nice fat cheeses at 1:00. You dont hear that any more

  • Pioneer 95. That was a fun year!

  • @clifrem I marched Delta Brigade in 95. You guys came down to Arkansas for a camp in April.

    The good ol' days...

  • These drums went to Pioneer in 94 when we became a Yamaha line. We marched them in 94 and 95 winning two DCI Div-II Championships before selling them to Cincinnatti Glory (?) I believe. After a few seasons Glory sold them to individuals, breaking the set. I bought the tenors I marched in 1994 with Pioneer and I still have them today. The tenors were six's in 94 but the spics were "lost". The original spocks remain. FYI - These are also the set that Cavies mounted "snares" in the tenor drums.

  • Other interesting notes about this set of drums - Each bass had it's own centerfold inside, viewed through the vent hole. Although Cavies marched five basses, Pioneer converted one of the pit basses and used it on the field in 95 as a 6th bass (what a beast!) The tenors were custom mounts using threaded rod between the drums and a steel bar between 3&4 for shot drum mounting... Most snare hardware was replaced because the Cavies beat the $hit out of them & bent most of the stabilizer posts.

  • You are correct! I was one of the founders and a drumline instructor with Cincinnati Glory and we did purchase this line from Pioneer. I believe these drums were used in 1992 as well except I think they were experimenting with a line of Kevlar snares in 1992.

  • When we got the tenors they were quints if there was a sixth drum someone at pioneer removed them. I believe we sold the drums between 97 and 98. For a couple years I stored these drums at my parents house between camps, between Bill Estes Charlie Mormon and myself I was the only one with a truck. I also have an old video of myself messing around on the tenors but that is one video I dont think I will post :)

  • been a long time since i saw this, i was marching pioneer in 1993, i saw this warm - up. I think finals were in mississippi that year, Jackson Mississippi. I personally think this drumline had to be in the top three that year. This drum solo is in my top ten of all time.

  • Thanks much for posting this, Sean. I hadn't heard this solo other than the DCI-produced video ... I had no idea how intricate the parts were until seeing this. Such a killer line. Their drum score was very high compared to the rest of the corps in 1993.

  • I used one of these snare drums when my drum corp purchased this set of Yamahas from the Cavaliers :)

  • Which corps is that, Josh? I'm wondering if they'd like to sell any of them now.

  • The corp I'm refering to is long gone. They purchased this set in 1996 and used them for 2 seasons. I wouldn't have a clue where they were now. My college had a set of tenors from the 1990 Cavalier line. They were outfitted with a custom crossbar that accomodated the shot tom.

  • Nice!!!

  • Wow, man. You have an awesome collection. Thanks for taking the time to post this stuff. Still looking for the holy grail - complete 1992 Cavies battery run through.

  • Have you had any luck finding this clip? I have a connection with Jim Campbell who worked as caption head and percussion writer with the Cavies that particular year. I used to have access to several videos pertaining to the 1992 season. I will see what I can turn up.

    ~Josh

  • Nada. That would be super sweet. Thanks.
