i live in syracuse and we went 7-5 this year with wins against Colgate, Akron, Maine, West Virgina, USF, Cincinatti and rugters. Penn state is seven and five playing good teams
We're getting there. This team is looking like it has some promise this year. G-Rob is gone, thats a relief. We beat Akron this year. Washington was tough and we cannot seem to travel well
How did the downfall of the Ivy League occur? teams like Princeton, Harvard and Yale used to be able to go toe to toe with anyone in the nation. (though like a century ago)
@ocusa,how many natn'l titles? Im not sayin U should be happy with losing or not want 2 win as much as possible. But U cant say Cuse is a traditional power house either & as 4 players,1 heisman in 69 & when was the last time a Cuse player was in the race? 9-3 seasons are not what top programs consider 2 be good years& just "finishing" in the top 25 every year isnt special.Cuse's football since 1889(110yrs!),1 title in 59,1 heisman 69, 4 conf titles & Mcnabb etc, all Im sayn is dont EXPECT winning
@jsd1996475 Yeah, Corso was clueless on that one. Pasqualoni did a good job for a long time, but his last few years were going downhill and recruiting was falling apart in that time. Not all his fault, because the University did a terrible job of investing in facilities and the program at the time, while the rest of the league was improving theirs. Changes needed to be made, but Robinson was obviously the wrong guy.
Had had had-was was was,all that express & jim brown $hit happend over 60 something years ago what do they expect!? they've had 1 or 2 good players but as far as teams go-nada,they werent competeing for natn'l chhampionships before gross or robinson got there. When exactly did they last win a title? a meaningful bowlgame? If notre dame cant get great recruits what makes you think SU can? SU,stick to basketball
@TR3YBUCK Clueless. Syracuse was 11-0-1 in 87, 10-2 in 88, 10-2 in 91, and 10-2 in 92. Then from 95-98, they were going 9-3 every year. They beat Colorado in the 93 Fiesta Bowl. They beat Clemson 41-0 in the 95 Gator Bowl. McNabb, Freeney, Harrison, Bulluck, Darius, etc.....they had more than "1 or 2 good players". You don't have to go back 50 years to find good Syracuse football teams. From the late 80's to 2001, they were almost always in the top 25.
Thank you for this..good piece.OH yeah....JOHNNY..we may be down right now,but we still destoyed rutgers. You also have zero chance of matching the things we have done in the past.WE shall rise again!
I'm from Rutgers. We're gonna wipe our feet on the orange doormat of the Big East for the rest of their time in the BCS. We've beaten them the last 4 years straight and this Sat. will be the 5th straight. They should become FBS so they stop getting embarrassed so bad. Of course, they will still lose to Buffalo, Maine, and the mighty zips of Akron, LOL.
How'd that work out for you this year? A rebuilding SU team dominated you 31-13 this year at the dome. How hilarious is it that a Rutgers fan is saying that SU should be a FBS team. You guys got pounded in the ass for years by everyone in the big east.
Bahahaha any Big East fan past 10 years old knows that. That guy is a moron I remember going to Rutgers games in Jersey to watch Syracuse pound them 50-0 in the late 90s.
@BarbaryPirates I am from NYC so I used to root for Rutgers (they were my third favorite team behind Alabama and Army). I remember one game when Syracuse won after posting 74 points on the board. Seriously, with the name, recognition, and academic excellence that Syracuse has it shouldn't be doing this bad in Football.
I am not the biggest Daryl Gross fan, but it was not Gross' decision to fire Paul Pasqualoni...it was a board of trustees decision. Gross was at SU for about a month when he was given the impossible job of finding Pasqualoni's replacement in the end of January. Not many choices available. What I blame Gross for was the contract he gave an unproven coach - a GUARANTEED five-year seven figure contract. Horrendous.
But Pasqualoni had to go. There's no debate about that.
I'm a penn state fan, but i will tell you wat, Syracuse is not waht it used to be. In my opinion from what I have seen from this video, Gross should have just stayed at USC and kept his west coast offense over there, i agree witrh the guy in the middle, it has not the same place mentality wise or culture wise.
It DEFINITELY was time for Pasqualoni to go after the 2004 season. But Robinson just was the wrong person to replace him with. But I think that Gross struck gold by hiring Doug Marrone. Marrone is going to be like the "Greg Schiano of Syracuse." That is, he is going to breathe new life into that program, recruit his tail off, and make them a winning program again.
Actually, I could see 'Cuse going to a bowl game with a couple of seasons. Syracuse was 3-9 in 2007, but, IMHO, had they had a better coach, they would have had at least two more wins.
I love how Corso tries to defend Jake and Coach P, who started Cuse on the decline that GRob put into overdrive. God frobid that Gross try to improve a declining program. It's too bad his hire was an epic fail, but Coach P had to go.
born and raised in syracuse ny, watched the glory days of the 1990's when donovan mcnabb, marvin harrison, dwight freeney, keith bullock, donovan darius just to name a few were wrecking the big east, remember the Virginia Tech rivalry? WTF happened? Never should have dropped Coach P for this clown Robinson and im glad to see hes gone. We lost Ray Rice when Pasqualoni got fired. Lets hope the next generation of Cuse kids get to watch a powerhouse like i did growing up
They didn't pass on Mike Vick. They offered him a scholarship and he chose Va Tech. Now Mike Hart is where they screwed up. He lived in Michigan until he was 12 and went to HS in the Syracuse area. SU probably didn't have much of a shot but they blew it when the moron twins of Pasqualoni and Deleone told him he'd play DB for them.
i lost all respect for the program when they passed on mike vick and 5 years later passed on mike hart because they said he wasnt fast enough (and he was from syracuse)even though he became one of michigan's top runningbacks of all time. hopefully they get a successful coach who can rebuild a disgusting program into a great contender which it once was.
I went to Mike Hart's high school and have followed his career closely. He never had ANY intention of going to Syracuse. Michigan was always where he wanted to play.
As much as I care about the football program at Syracuse (I hold the express 2 sign). Besides hiring Greg Robinson, Gross has done a great job as AD. The sports he's done well with are just not the big money sports.

Alright, that should explain Lee Corso to you right there.
An analyst is promoting a coach who had a downward spiral going and was a losing coach himself...... Who the fu€k does ESPN hire?
