Mmmm...love the KBB girls. I just got a used low kilometer 2009 base with the 2.4l and the 5 speed auto. I'll be posting a first impression video and review shortly.
Bought a used 2010 red vibe (not GT) and works great for the wife, hauling kids around town and actually has more cargo space than any 4 door sedan i've owned. Great car and I'm sure it will last well over 100k miles.
Bought a used 2010 red vibe (not GT) and works great for the wife, hauling kids around town and actually has more cargo space than any 4 door sedan i've owned. Great car and I'm sure it will last well over 100k miles.
I bought this same car also - '09 Vibe GT in Red Hot Metallic. I LOVE THIS CAR!!! This is the best car I have had in 20+ years. It has plenty of power, handles very well, and gets much better mileage than this KBB review (I regularly get 27mpg in normal driving, and 31+mpg on the highway). I drive this car on the German Autobahn, and it's great! It's a real shame that GM ditched Pontiac, and there will be no more new Vibes.
I bought my vibe new in Sept. 2009. I LOVE THIS CAR!!! It will be 3 years old in about a month and will top 100,000 miles by then. I get an average of 36mpg highway with a K&N filter installed in the 1.8 liter 5 speed manual. It has been bullit proof needing only routine maintenance. Ok, it was built by Toyota, but who cares. It is fun to drive and when it was reasonably priced. GM should have rebadged it a Chevy, instead of killing it!
Father drives this and is probably getting handed down to me. Most annoying thing ever is that something in the rear of the car squeeks when driving. So annoying
i really like the vibe, i went and got the 1.8L engine not as much power vs the 2.4. in the city i really dont notice a difference it really picks up speed quickly. but on the highways its likes to take time speeding up, which not big deal to me. i really do enjoy the near 50MPG on the highways by far. Which is why i went with the 1.8L
i got the original '03 model of this. its an awesome car, good mileage, and plenty of space on the inside. and its got some good power for a 4-cylinder. mine has well over 150,000 miles and hasnt broken down on me or given me any problems yet either.
@peteisnotneat exactly, its an awesome car. but one reason it is so reliable is because it is based off of the toyota matrix, so it is not actually completely a pontiac. even half the parts in the car are labeled toyota.
I just got this exact car. Red, loaded and you know what, I am VERY pleased with it. It's all I ever wanted in a car. And the automatic/shift option is awesome. Very pleased consumer....
I'm 53 and have owned everything from VW's Bugs to Toyota Celica x3 to 3 or 4 SUV's a camaro with a humgoungous engine that blew up on me, well over 25 cars and the 2009 Vibe I bought beats them all. 2.4 liter engine with more horsepower then my Datzun 240z.
I got it with cash for clunkers and after rebates it came in less then $12,000. You can't get a decent used car for that price.
And yeah I know it's discontunued, fine I'll have one of the few out there, & it uses Toyota parts.
looks like you got a great deal for such a decent car since it uses toyota engine, transmission etc. I bet this car will last for so long as long as you don't abuse it. I check the matrix but it cost more so looks like I'll go with the vibe and I like the design better than the matrix....
I'll say this to you. This Vibe has renewed my interest in cars, which I had lost. I would say it is the best car I have had out of the 25 cars I've had which include Datsun 240z, yes better then the z. Same size engine horsepower, yet faster and more agile.
Been driving it now since August and I can't come up with any critizisms on the car design/manufacture.
I prefer German BMW/Audi but I'm not rich so the Vibe/Matrix is outstanding for the price.
I really like it. The only problem I have with it, is, if you get the GT model, you loose the center caps of your wheels. If you get one & all four of them are there, I would take them off then silicone them in just for added safety. I am now missing two. They retail for about....$25 or so from the dealership. I still have the part # too. Overall, it is a very good car. I used to be against hatchbacks, but with the way they look now, they are irresistible!
It would make a great first car. I too was considering a mazda but only in the car style. My next car is going to be a BMW. I know, expensive car, but I have always wanted one. That is if my car dies. I hope it doesn't honestly..
Just bought a used 2008 Vibe and so far so good. I liked the look, the price and the 5 speed transmission, which always seemed hard to come by in stylish cars. The gas tank seems a little small, and the transmission isnt as smooth as a Saturn I owned a few years ago, but those maybe be nitpicking. Hopefully, this lasts for at least 5 years.
1.8 a corolla engine, the 2.4 is camry, corolla xrs,rav4,etc...My girlfriend's friend has a corolla 1.8 liter engine and has about more than 300k in it and it is the original engine.Until now still running without a problem. That is pretty damn good...
I'm currently driving an 09 Vibe as a rental, as a temporary replacement for my 1999 Honda Accord. Comparable to my Accord are the Vibe's steering and braking, which are nimble and strong. The accelerator is much more sensitive than my Honda's, but it just takes getting used to and isn't a negative. I don't really care for the in-your-face dash and the car has tons of blind spots and the windows are narrow. It's decent and solid, but I want my Accord back.
do you have a v6 or i4 accord? i had a 2000 accord v6 coupe before and drive a vibe gt now. i can honestly say the vibe has better torque than my accord. even tho the accord had a v6, the vibe felt just as quick getting up to speed on the fwy. driving around city, the vibe has more usable torque than the accord. i do like my accord's interior and smooth ride tho.
My Accord was (it got totalled) an inline 4 cylinder sedan. I never noticed any considerable difference between the two, but that may be because I was driving the base model as the rental.
don't get me wrong, i loved my accord and i still do love that gen coupe. it just lacked low end power and you have to get the rev up to feel the power. the torque in the vibe comes at a lower rpm so you don't need to get on the gas as hard to get it moving. get what i'm saying?
I've got one : mediocre visibility all around , good seat , good ride .Good mileage with my 1.8 auto . Not very clever high rear floor , Honda Fit / Jazz is clever in the cargo department
The honda fit is nice. All the car magazines like it, which almost never happens, and is pretty quick , and kind of looks cool, although the vibe and caliber look better.
why boring? I prefer it over a Chevy Cobalt sedan or Aveo.. It's no more boring than a Toyota Corolla, and what small sedan/hatch is "not" boring for under 20K? along with Toyota reliability!
I find the vibe boring because it has no personality, or no features that make you remember it. Everything about it is mediocre... styling, quality performance handling. The chevy cobalt has it's great performance. The new corolla has it's sporty looks and fuel mileage, and as for the aveo, you remember it for it being a piece of junk.
I disagree, I think the 09 has great lines that give it an excellent look. I own the 2.4 and the pep of this 20k ride is amazing. It's no sports car, but for a hatchback I have yet to see a competitor do better.
Agreed i love my gt.. better than listed mpg, and fun to drive.. You wont find a junk hauler with better features. This is my second NUUMI car..the first one was bullet proof.. My bike fits in, both wheels on.. no need for a gross roof rack.
Corvette, you can not really compare this to a Cobalt or a Corolla. Where are you going to fit your gear, in those cars??People shopping the Vibe/Matrix are not looking at coupe/sedans..we need more room than that. MIne will haul all of my stuff without a noisy and drag producing roof rack. Maybe a more fair compairison would be a Fit (gutless) or a Dodge Caliber.( cheap mopar junk). In a perfect world compromises arent necessary, but they are when hobbies are involved.
That's why I bought one. It started with the Nova in the mid eighties and continues now, the NUMMI plant in Fremont makes these along with the Toyota Matrixes.
I just hate how you cant get all the features with the 1.8 liter motor...

I heard the Matrix/vibe is really loud, wind/road noise/engine roar at highway speeds,
and is really bad on snow, unless you have the AWD. are either true?

@23TallGuy both engines in this car are made by Toyota. It is the sister/brother to the Matrix.
