We once used lots of startgas on a old engine inside a house and it really ignited and half of the room was in fire for a sec. :P

I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs + injection and tank clean and rustfree

You're supposed to pull the choke out and leave it there until the engine starts. Pulling and pushing it doesn't do anything.
Plus, if you keep on stopming on the accelerator you inject more and more gasoline and your spark plugs will only get wet and never fire. Extra starter fluid will only make it worse then.
Your ignition timing does not seem to be correct either as some people already mentioned.
Normally a B18 (or B16) should start a lot better, even after sitting for a few years.
It's most likely starter fluid. Very low octane liquid so it ignites very easily.
If your engine is timed properly and there is fire in there, it will start with that thing, if only for a second.
Good to get an old engine going after sitting for a long time. In this video the plugs were probably fucked so that's why they had to drag the car and drop the clutch to turn the engine and clean it faster then boom it started.

next time if you want to succeed:
- put some fuel in the carb trough the float chamber vents (NOT in the main venturi!)
- check functionality of ignition system and static timing as soon as the first serious starting attempt doesn't work out.
- wire up a temporary fuel source to eliminate fuel tank/suction leak issues

Good to get an old engine going after sitting for a long time. In this video the plugs were probably fucked so that's why they had to drag the car and drop the clutch to turn the engine and clean it faster then boom it started.

You can hear it in the cranking, carb action, see as she is pulling the choke pumping. She is probably anxious wanting her car to start. Seeing her pull that choke in and out, pumping right on a rhythm, you could see it in the carb action and in how it is cranking. You could hear her telling her car to start. Neat as the carb is being sprayed it cranked faster. I love that sound as it is cranking eloesomeview eloesomeville. As the carb is being sprayed, choke closed, you hear eloesomeview eloesomefuel while cranking.

Right at 45 of the video carb opens back up, she starts really pimping again the car makes the sound again while cranking eloesomeville eloesomeview, at 58 choke closes and it again makes the sound eloesomeview eloesomefuel. From 36 of the video you could hear her as she is cranking saying start start.

As she is saying start she probably had a very long cigarette dangling, as she is saying start you could hear the whisp, the way her voice sounds as it is saying start. She is great, fantastic, cranking that beautiful Volvo perfectly. Love the long starting. Love to see more videos of this car. Film it with her cranking if it is having trouble starting again. Stalls. She is great. This car is fantastic. She was driving the truck.
