too Noisia for me - and DO NOT TELL ME THAT THERE IS NO INFLUENCE. Ok, good job with sampleas and all the stuff, but where is the briliant sense of composition which Amon has on the rest of the albums?
I fucking love Tobin, hate Dubstep. The idea of being less creative and innovative with a track just because you've slowed it down pisses me off. When I first heard this, Dubstep was the last thing that came to mind. This is just Tobin, in the new age.
WTF happened to Tobin these days? he pulls some weird, experimental shit out of his ass now. The direction he's going is very distressing for me considering i loved his early albums. Do u ppl honestly like it or are u just swinging from Tobins balls???
@boingobangobingo Yah, i get it, pushing it...but my question is: do u actually, honestly, organically like it? or is it just ur head talking? do u appreciate it on the dry, forced, artificial, intellectual level or do u actually enjoy it? Just curious....
I'm kind of with you a little bit. I like change, but his stuff was not as gritty and rough back then...it was...lighter? I don't particularly care for this sound either. I'm pregnant right now and this stuff doesn't vibe with us at all (way too discordant)...but songs like Nova, Chocolate Lovely, and Natureland are still lovely. I miss his jazzier works.
@Bethelight311 yeah, these are my favs to. Im also into jazz, bossa nova etc, and the atmosphere of those songs appealed to me a lot, i just sucked all the flavors out of them by listening to them like a maniac for a buncha years....anyway will see what the next album's gonna be like when he finally releases it. Oh, and good luck.
There was slow bass heavy music before Dubstep ya know folks. This isn't dubstep, its pure Tobin. Can you see someone like Skream having the balls to drop something like this? No chance!
Song makes a map look like a landscape. Kicks ya out of comfort. Wedgies for dubstep. No seriously this should be the coup the grace for the genre, like from next week no one is ever going to create any new dubstep
this sounds distinctive to me but a bit sparse, a lot of recent tobin sounds like he's making dj tools for himself. liking this direction in beats more than foley room though
This is a badass track. I can say it is under influence of dubstep music, but it's also definitely better than cookie cutter dubstep music. It's exciting to listen.
This is good as an experiment with dubstep but on the whole I agree with Typheem: if he were to release an album full of such tunes I doubt it'd be satisfying.
This is rediculously fucking awsome. Jesus. It's like dubstep and IDM together or something, I don't even know. Fuck ya, the new decades gonna see some buck future music, for sure.
@jonnyflash7273 yeah you kinda proved your own point there. The reason this tune disappoints me is because Amon's other stuff sounds so unique and original and this sounds like any other recent dubstep from people like 16bit.
it doesnt sound like a generic dubstep song, Amon Tobins innovating dubstep just like he has with every other genre. Hes gotten to the point where you cant really categorize his music.
@VibrationSubStation arrhythmic offbeat stuff of awesome that doesn't fall into categorization other than electronic. It has that feel that dubstep has, but it's Amon Tobin. Don't give him labels of sub-genres.
amon tobin's nailed jungle, nailed chilled out latin triphoppy vibes, nailed cinematic scores, nailed all the weird shit he does, so whats wrong with him nailing dubstep? which this tune shows.
Probably so, dubstep seems to be the word today, everyone is doing dubstep. Personally never really got into it nor getting into still but I guess it's just so cool everyone has to try it out, including amon tobin. Thing is that it's very quickly starting to sound very general, I didn't find much difference in this track than some other steps I've encountered around. Guess it's in the slight nuances then, which I fail to detect unfortunately. Maybe big beats WITH big basses next time. no wait...
@decrrr Dubstep is something you feel physicaly at tremendous volume, bass shakes your body giving you a good audio experience, you dont hear it... you feel the bass and your skull get cracked by the trebel sounds!
sorry if it sounds like I'm spamming, but I'm trying out dubstep myself. My idea of dubstep is the sound of a war machine killing everything in sight (influenced by neuro a bit). head down to my profile and see if you dig that. much respect.

People are calling it dubstep because it sounds like a generic dubstep tune. Disappointing effort from Tobin.
Typheem 2 years ago
oh no!! typheem either doesn't know what the word generic means or he's never listened to dubstep LOLallot.
that's the problem with the internet. you don't need to know anything to say anything.
I don't like this personally, but it's because I mainly listen to polish salsa : )
