  • nice turntable the 45 stacking is sweet

  • hello there I think these turntables are very good quality for their age and great job fixing itup I also repair various stereo elctrnics and the mechanism is pretty much standard . could you tell me the name of the songs you chose for this video and keep the great videos coming and thank you again

  • Thanks. Phillips made some good quality stuff back then, all this needed was a clean, grease and oil change to get it going smoothly again. The songs are listed at the very end of the video. Cheers.

  • I've got a couple of these but they are the older red armed variety. One of them actually has a piece of metal attached to the control arm to block the pickup arm after the last record - very crude! Your later one had some improvements to the cut off switch. They certainly are a quirky deck!

  • I like the red ones, Jendor09 has some good videos of his in action. Never seen the metal on the control arm before though and does sound crude especially as it would be jamming the mechanism in effect. There should be a small brass trigger underneath that is triggered when the arm drops the last record to cancel out or stop the changer playing cycle. Performs the same action as pushing the Stop button down.

  • thanks for that I shall investigate a bit more

  • I suppose the big problem with these units is that they can't automatically play both sides of a record, so when one record finishes, the unit starts playing the next record without playing side B of the first one. A family friend once gave my family a Sharp record player that operated much like a CD player. All the push buttons were electronic, and it could play both sides without you needing to turn the record over.

  • Not really a problem for me. I mainly play 45s and most of them I dont want to hear the B sides anyway. Although this would be handy for 12 33 albums. I do vaguely remember a unit that could play both sides, a friend of mine had one in the 80s however it was always breaking down. JVC or Sharp I think it was.

  • lachlant1984: sharp vz series were the stereos with both sides play, vertical decks. I have a sharp optonica one which was just the deck.

  • I'm 24, too young to fully apriciate vinyal records, my mother has told me about record changers, but I've never seen one in action. How many records can you put on that thing at one time? Can it play both 33's and 45's?

  • The manual says it can take up to 10 records at a time. Yep, it plays all sizes and speeds. I tend to limit it to 4-5 records at a time because the higher the stack of records on the turntable increases the weight of the stylus playing them. That can wear out the stylus quicker and damage the grooves on the vinyl.

  • The bottom of the unit looks like it's open, had you not closed the unit up when you made this video?

  • The turntable was removed from the cabinet so I could work on the mechanics. This video is the test after I had finished before I put it back in the cabinet.

  • Dude, our tastes in classic music is SO similar - track 1 being one of my fav songs of all time!

  • It is a good one isnt it. I just grabbed what was laying around to play on this vid for the test. I have since replaced that original stylus with a brand new one and sounds alot better now. Thanks for your comment.
