  • if you want to do a full checkerboard pattern how do you start do you just start with the knit stitch???

  • @theanimallover383

yes, start with the knit stitch and change colors as I do on the video. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • Judy

I'm trying to use two colors to make large blocks and via you, learned how not to have holes between the colors. What I'm confused about is how to "carry the yarn not in use behind every 3rd or so stitch". Thus far I haven't found a video demonsrtating how to do that - just often instructed to do so.

Thanks for all your hard work. You are a marvelous teacher and your teaching pace and tone instill a "can do" feeling, and am much happier and (more productive!) knitter.

  • @purplemuse48

it's basically a fair isle technique. watch one of my fair isle videos to see how I do it. don't carry the yarn in back for more than 3 or 4 stitches or it will pull too tight.

  • @purplemuse48

HAVE you watched my fair isle videos? they may help you. thanks for your kind words.

  • @mangakitten1 Oops my comment went on twice i think i shall try this for a scarf with a light and dark green

  • ooh i think i may have to try this after i've finished my latch hook pillow cover :)

  • how did u do that on the blue? i thought if u did that it wouldve shown on the side?

  • @Deathenally

keep watching and do it just like I do and you'll be fine.

  • how do you knit with 2/3 strings at the same time?

  • @asianaiish

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean knit with 2 strands together as one or do you mean 2 strands of different colors?

  • great video and very helpful...one question. How do you keep the piece from curling up? I think it is too tight in the back but how do I keep that from happening? (I guess that was kinda 2 questions lol)

  • @oneandonly221

you're right. you're probably pulling the thread too tight when you go across. keep trying and you'll figure it out. everyone's tension is different. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • thank you very much i think you are an expert knitter.

by the way have you done a video on how to make rows stand out, if you know what i mean

  • call me strange but i like 5 and 1/2

  • you are awesome!

  • @nikkiwikkidoodle

thank you. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • I'd just like to say you're an amazing knitter and do such nice work. I do have one question. When doing the checkerboard pattern, is it supposed to feel textured on the knitt side? On mine, there's an indention on either side of the vertical rows of squares. Each vertical row of squares feels raised. I did work in the stocking stitch and this was my first experiment with changing colors. Thanks Judy!

  • @srymer36

thanks for the nice note. from the way you describe it it sounds like your work came out right. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too..

  • That is a Funky peice of work!

  • @torritornado

Yes, it's turned into a sampler as I demonstrate different stitches and techniques. fun!

  • why does the back looks so crappy??

  • I believe that's just how multi colored knitting looks, if you want it to look like the clean "right side" from both sides then you can use some needles in the round, and just keep the crumby side inside the "tube".

  • That's what fair isle is... you have to carry the color across the back. Intarsia doesn't do that, but it requires seperate balls of yarn for each patch of color, which gets complicated.

  • because the strands of yarn are just being carried across, they aren't being hidden in.

You could probably fix this by just knitting square of something else (or repeating your same pattern) and then sewing them together back-to-back.

  • when i do this pattern my acsess yarnshows like if i knit brown and blue my blue would be crossing over the brown like a stripe

  • Awee. Really nice. <333 I adore this. Thank you so much. Very clear, and easy to understand. ^^

  • I'm making larger squares, but the off-color just dangles on the back. Is there a better way to string the off-color with the working color?

  • Size 8 needles look comfortable to work with, I think i need to go get some now x]

  • I find size 7 or 8 are the most comfortable too.

  • how do you decrease using ssk when working ribbing of k4 p2....?

  • what is the size of the needle that you are using?

  • Size 8

  • how did you put that red and yellow yarn together?

  • watch again and you'll see how I did it.

  • knitting video? come on

  • There are holes between my colors! How do I fix this?

  • You're not twisting the yarn when you change colors. watch again and see how I do it. good luck.

  • tha~nk you~!

i wanted to do multicolored chekerboard for a while, yay!

  • good, glad I inspired you to do it. hope it turned out well. happy knitting.

  • um how to you get two strings of yarn in there?

  • in where?

  • This was so helpful. I agree, one of the most helpful color-changing video. Thank you. =)

  • Thanks for such a nice comment. Please keep watching for more videos and happy knitting,

  • Oh my :(

  • what's wrong?

  • This is perhaps the most helpful color-changing knitting video on YouTube. Thanks!

  • thank you so much for your nice comment. I'm so glad I could help. Please keep watching and happy knitting!

  • Nifty! I will try it. I've never knitted with more than one color at a time before. I usually make a "checker board" by alternately knitting4, purling4.

  • sorry I took so long to get back to you. I assume by now you're a whiz at this.
