I'm 22 and in 6 months the bill will mandate that my father's family plan will cover me and my two brothers up to 26 from 18. I'm in school and I don't have the time to get a job with benefits. This new bill is being made to give government much more power. They are going to put a cap on how much the cost of your treatments will be! $5000/year per individual and $10000/year per family. The government will decide what treatments we can get. They will restrict medical care for people w/ special needs. I could go on and on.

This bill is not supposed to help people who work and have health insurance. It will hurt them because someone has to pay for the increase in people on the government health care dole and the new regulations preventing people from being dropped for pre-existing or illness. I don't have health insurance, but I see my doctor when I want. By not having insurance, I'm saving quite a chunk of change.
And I live in a state with a public option, which is one reason I don't have insurance, because the public option is financed by higher premiums on health insurance.
According to your profile, you're 27. You're still young and you have no major illnesses, most likely. How much do you think cancer costs? How about heart surgery? Diabetes? Reconstructive surgery? Microsurgical surgery on knees or shoulders? You're saving money because you don't have insurance? If I was forced to buy insurance per the Obama plan, from age 18 to forever, but I have no major illness. I unfortunately die instantly when I'm 40 from a car accident, what would I have gained from paying for insurance those 22 years? All I did was finance other peoples medical treatment, for example, people living more unhealthy lives, getting diabetes at 18.
We should control our own individual choices. I have my own savings that is for medical expenses.

The cost of insurance in my state is far too high. I would consider buying health insurance if I was allowed to buy it from a different state. But as of now, it makes no financial sense for me to pay inflated premiums to cover for people who get it free from the state government.

The car insurance people are forced to buy is liability insurance. This is to pay the other guy if you cause the accident. As Obama stupidly pointed out, if you buy the minimum car insurance, it doesn't pay for your own damages.

Prior to the HMO act the government paid hospitals directly, so that they could always afford to keep emergency rooms and free clinics open, and so that the overall cost of major procedures was drastically reduced.
Other countries (Canada and the UK, for examples) went a different direction with socialized health care. There is honest debate over which of those 2 is better.
It should be noted, however, that what we have no with the HMO act and will be getting more of , is neither of those.

People don't like to talk about children because the uncomfortable truth is that between 7 and 10 million children do not have even basic coverage. Basic coverage. In America. In 2010. With major providers like WellPoint aiming to increase rates between 20-70% to nearly 40 million customers, that number will likely explode. Conservatives cry about bigger government when they should really be crying about bigger corporations, especially ones that dictate the life and death of their children.
I believe, that as of today, in emergency situations they will be taken care of. However, since they are a burden on society we have to find a way of taking care of them. Answer this question, how do you stop people living in poverty from having children when they evidently can't afford them? I can understand the one time oops, but whne you add 1,2 or 3 more then we have a situation that has to be addressed. You can't keep saying, hear take care of this for me will ya, something has to change.

How do you educate more people to proactively take better care of themselves? I wish I knew. This new bill is being made to give government much more power. They are going to put a cap on how much the cost of your treatments will be! $5000/year per individual and $10000/year per family. The government will decide what treatments we can get. They will restrict medical care for people w/ special needs. I could go on and on.

The polls show the majority of the American people don't want this bill. If they invested as much time into revising our failed trade agreements maybe our economy would flourish. If they had revised them back in the 90s we wouldn't have lost well over 20 million jobs to foreign workers. It would not have been profitable for American manufacturing companies to move to foreign countries to take advantage of cheap labor. We don't want anymore backroom deals that sell us out. Thank you

If true free market processes were at work, then cost cutting would always come before insolvency. However, the opposit is the reality. The only ones who benefit from this is the medical industry. They should be restrained not encouraged. They get a huge payday from this and don't let them fool you about not wanting it either. It will hurt them because someone has to pay for the increase in people on the government health care dole and the new regulations preventing people from being dropped for pre-existing or illness. According to your profile, you're 27. You're still young and you have no major illnesses, most likely. How much do you think cancer costs? How about heart surgery? Diabetes? Reconstructive surgery? Microsurgical surgery on knees or shoulders? You're saving money because you don't have insurance? I hope you plan on saving a lot, because working in the medical field as I do and seeing what it costs, I can't imagine not having health insurance. But good luck with that.

Let's consider a possibility.
If I was forced to buy insurance per the Obama plan, from age 18 to forever, but I have no major illness. I unfortunately die instantly when I'm 40 from a car accident, what would I have gained from paying for insurance those 22 years? All I did was finance other peoples medical treatment, for example, people living more unhealthy lives, getting diabetes at 18.
We should control our own individual choices. I have my own savings that is for medical expenses.

Most of middle class people with low income salaries dont qualify for medicaid. But at the same time they dont make enough money to save to help themselves if they get sick. So now I ask you why life has to be so unfair for those people, bc one misfortune they have to ruin their lives by filing bankruptcy.

I'm not fortunate to have savings.
I have an entry-level job and I grew up lower middle class. My parents didn't save their money the way I save my money. The only way to move up in the world is by living cheaper. Other people want 500 cable channels, new shoes every month, have unprotected sex to make dozens of welfare babies.
Not for me. I choose to live responsibly and move up in the world. Living frugal wasn't good fortune for me.
And bankruptcy isn't as bad as you think it is.

I don't think you understand.
I live in a state with a public option.
The public option is financed by health insurance companies in the my state footing the bill.
In turn, they pass the cost on to everyone else with private insurance via higher premiums.
Thus, the cost of private insurance is too high for my level of health.
And I'm not eligible for the state option, bc the last time they tried it, it went bankrupt, so they narrowed the requirements to make it sustainable.

i am not sure if i understood well, but if i am wrong you can correct me. you decide not to have health insurance bc the costs where to high right. so you just go to the doctor and pay from your pocket every time you need it. well that is what most people in US do. They dont get health insurance not bc they dont want but bc they cant afford it. So in order to help all the people like you that cant afford for a health insurance, this new program is being made to reduce the costs of it.

I guess you mean "the nation". Well, the problem with your way of thinking is people always know what's best for them. Do you think you have the right to tell people how to live their lives? Health insurance in my state would cost me over $3,000/year. Now if we had competition across state lines, the price would decrease.
Insurance doesn't help the nation as a whole. It disperses cost unequally.

The cost of insurance in my state is far too high. I would consider buying health insurance if I was allowed to buy it from a different state. But as of now, it makes no financial sense for me to pay inflated premiums to cover for people who get it free from the state government.

The car insurance people are forced to buy is liability insurance. This is to pay the other guy if you cause the accident. As Obama stupidly pointed out, if you buy the minimum car insurance, it doesn't pay for your own damages.

Insurance, as you may not realize, doesn't actually keep people healthy. Much like fire insurance doesn't prevent fires.
If your concern is for people to live healthy lives, you would encourage efficiency in the health care (not insurance) market. Would like to start by giving up your pay?
Insurance is based on risk. You risked time and money entering the medical field. Do you want to be rewarded with a paycheck?

Prior to the HMO act the government paid hospitals directly, so that they could always afford to keep emergency rooms and free clinics open, and so that the overall cost of major procedures was drastically reduced.
Other countries (Canada and the UK, for examples) went a different direction with socialized health care. There is honest debate over which of those 2 is better.
It should be noted, however, that what we have no with the HMO act and will be getting more of , is neither of those.

I love how the insurance companies are pretending to be against a bill that requires everyone in the country to either pay them directly, or have someone else pay them on their behalf.
The original HMO act was written by the insurance companies too. Don't believe me? It came out in the Nixon tapes, The original HMO a was written by Kaiser Permanente, and hand delivered to the white house.
This just completes the process of forming a government enforced health care "protection" racket.

Under the Obamacare all my wife would get a pain pill and told to go home and die. The senate sets up a committee that tells who is and who is not covered. And if my wife is old enough and don't work and pay into the system. She gets nothing. Be she first time or pre-existing conditions.

People don't like to talk about children because the uncomfortable truth is that between 7 and 10 million children do not have even basic coverage. Basic coverage. In America. In 2010. With major providers like WellPoint aiming to increase rates between 20-70% to nearly 40 million customers, that number will likely explode. Conservatives cry about bigger government when they should really be crying about bigger corporations, especially ones that dictate the life and death of their children.

I believe, that as of today, in emergency situations they will be taken care of. However, since they are a burden on society we have to find a way of taking care of them. Answer this question, how do you stop people living in poverty from having children when they evidently can't afford them? I can understand the one time oops, but whne you add 1,2 or 3 more then we have a situation that has to be addressed. That IS a problem, for sure. I totally hear what you're saying. How do you keep the poor from popping out more kids? How do you stop poverty? How do you educate more people to proactively take better care of themselves? I wish I knew. It's a massively intricate web and I know for a fact that one single political party or the other doesn't have the answers. In fact, I think taking care of each other should be divorced from politics all together, if that's even possible. It's a big mess.
