  • @JayFryMedia Epshesians 5: 25-27

  • ugh.... faith only people always think in humanistic terms... How can you look at Romans 6:3 and peter 3:21 and still say that baptism is not a washing of sins through faith? Nowhere in the bible do they ever say that baptism is "an outward sign of inward grace" but you change its meaning through your humanistic ignorance and believe the false doctrine that is a lie from the devil. Biblically you are baptized into his (Jesus) death (Romans 6:3).

  • You are totaly wrong with this teaching. There was water baptizm when Jesus told Nicodemus this.As he was baptized with the baptizm of John before he even started his ministry.Jesus himself said all that believe & are baptized shall be saved. Look at the book of Acts.Peter taught it(Acts 2:38) & everyone who believed the gospel in Acts was baptized. This is truely one of the damnable heresies that Peter forwarned about that false teachers would be teaching in 2 Peter 2:1.

  • @HumbleHeartMinistry THANK YOU!!!!!

  • Thank you, Pastor! Finally, the voice of reason prevails! It isn't difficult to see that Jesus interprets Himself in the ensuing verses.

  • That water is the word of God according to Ephesians 5.

  • @jetdriver26 what are you talking about??? Jesus is the Word (John 1:1-8) and Baptizm is done in water (Acts 8: 36-38). (1 Peter 3:21)

  • BAPTISM EXISTED BEFORE JESUS SAID THAT BY JOHN THE BAPTIST

  • John 3:3-5 means, "If someone wants to be born again, they should be born of water and the Spirit. Here water means the baptism of Jesus, which does away with all the sins of the world once and for all. The Spirit means that Jesus who received baptism from John the Baptist is God Himself.”

The day Jesus was baptised by John was the last Day of Atonement where Jesus took up all our sins by the laying on of hands of this last earthly high priest all in accordance with Holy Scripture.

  • This is an unbelievable misinterpretation of the greatest salvation key scripture I've heard in a long time.

Matt. 11:25 Jesus answered and said, "I thank thee, O Father, Lord of Heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and the prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes."

Rom. 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

  • I dont believe that Jesus was making a contrast with water and of spirit. Instead, it seems to be paralleled. The conjunction "and" seems to link the 2 together. If they are synonomous then Jesus cant mean water baptism because scripture is clear that one gets saved (faith in Christ-spiritually reborn) then baptized, NOT baptized then spiritually reborn. Remember the thief on cross did not get baptized and yet Jesus said, "THIS day you will be with me in paradise."

  • Hey all. To be born again of water and the spirit you must have faith. Only faith saves Acts 10:43-47 (read this verse slowly), John 3:16, Galatians 3:6-9. John 3:5 is synonymous with let's say Mark 1:8. The real problem is that people are ignorant of the water, let's say 99.9% of people. 1 john 5:6 says Christ came by 'not water only'. If you read acts there are many examples of people only believing in Johns water baptism on Christ. Acts 19:1-5.

  • @eagleeye4christ

Refer to my other post (oops)

  • I dont think that Jesus was talking physical. Nicodemos was but Jesus was talking spiritual. It does not make sense that water would mean baptism because He used water first spirit last. Jesus was not trying to hide anything from Nico. but instead trying to get him to see something he should have understood (Ez 36-True cleansing is an act of the Holy Spirit-Regeneration). After all, the high priests cleansed themselves with water before entering the Holy of Holies but were still spiritually dead

  • Great expositiona nd explanation of "water" and "Spirit". So many Christians have no idea what this means! Thank you.

  • if baptizm "didnt exist" then why did all the apostles of the first century church have baptistries in thier house

  • Thank you so very much for this video! So many people say that this means water baptism, but if it does then Jesus had a REAL strange way of conversing and answering questions. Jesus spoke in parables, but he wasn't byzantine in his answering of questions. If you look at the story in context, Jesus initially said you must be born again. The ONLY reason how "born of water" came into the scenario, was in response to Nicodemus' stupid reply of climbing back into the womb. Jesus was done at verse 3.

  • Besides, it would be absurd for Jesus to say it in a context of physical birth...

It is like saying 'To have eternal life you must believe... oh, and you must be an existing creature' (?)

Besides, does it mean that people who die yet unborn do not go to heaven even if they would be regenerate by the spirit in a womb?

It is by far the weirdest interpretation I have heard.

I always understood that birth of water and spirit cannot exist separately.

  • Kind of like in John 11:26 where Jesus says-

"whoever lives and believes in me will never die."

It seems obvious that someone has to be alive in order to believe, right?

  • @diligentile the use of 'lives' in John 11:26 is connected to the context of Jesus speaking of those who believe and die will live and in the same time those who live and believe will never die. The use of vocab there is justified. It is not the case of John 3.

The physical birth argument is still absurd.

I still agree with him on the fact that the passage does not refer to water baptism (although baptism was present and common in the times of Jesus).

  • I usually understood being born of water as a repentance. Because the water baptism was the baptism of repentance...

+ I definitely agree with bandobraeschen on that as well.

I believe that baptism is an essential step in faith same as communion is. Jesus told us we are to be baptised, and besides baptism is a seal to our faith (if it is compared to circumcision). And both baptism and communion build up our faith giving a physical evidence. But it does not save in any way. This message was odd

  • Study Systematic Theology it will help you understand this message. To me its clear as day!

  • @bornfromabove I am studying Systematic Theology. But exegetical studies are much more useful in this passage. It is an obvious reference to Ezekiel 36 (in the light of John's constant use of the Old Testament images in his Gospel). And thus water would meen spiritual cleansing associated with repentance.

  • @masterowa Sorry. Repentance is a GIFT from the HS, not a way to Him. It doesn't FOLLOW the infilling of the Spirit, it EVIDENCES it.

  • Luke23:39-43 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying,If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds but this man hath done nothing amiss. And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou come into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him,Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

  • My question would be, how could the thief that was on the cross been baptised? Happy Thanksgiving and may God bless you. Jim

  • the thief believed while still under the old moasical law, the new law was not put into affect until after the death of Jesus

  • I appreciate Jim McClarty, but I don't agree with him on this. In Verse 5 Jesus says: "no-one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit." So is he explaining that no one, who is not physically born can enter into the kingdom of God? That's nonsense. There is such a thing as hebrew parallelism, but that's not it in this case. To me it's more logical to assume that water and spirit is a parallelism and/or that "water" refers to Ezek 36:25-27 which explains John 3:10

  • I must say I agree with Bandobraeschen

Water and spirit is a mirror image of Ezek 36 which talks about "washing, and given a new spirit", also see Tit 3:5

I must admit I was surprised to hear a reformed guy like brother Jim adhere to the idea that 'water' means physical birth and not a reference to the Ezek 36 new covenent prophey of the Holy Spirit being given to believers.

  • Typo: prophecy**

Ezek 36:25-27 is a prophecy about the coming NT covenant of the Spirit of God indwelling believers.

  • Well the follow up sermon by Bro Jim regarding John 3 and Ezek 36 really made me rethink a lot of things.

Jim, if you're reading this, thank you so much for your insights, I really appreciate it.

In the words of Brady Cooper, Context is King!
