Thanks for this. I was thinking of using this but have a lot concerns. This video gave I better understanding of the science related to supplementing melatonin. I won't be using it.
If you're like me and intend to only use this pill for when absolutely necessary (for me it's when I get into bed and realize I can not sleep ... which is rare, but it does happen once in a blue moon) then it'll not cause any long-term, harmful effects.
Not everything you hear people say you have to believe guys! This is why so many Americans are tricked and fooled and vote for shitty governor, I recommend listening to a lot of people review (instead of one guy review) and form your own expectation on the product, and also, use your common sense, soon as you hear any part of the person opinion that doesn't make any sense to you-that's the moment you should know that everything that they are saying is highly likely full of crap
I have summer school (which is the 18 of this month), I'm definitely going to take this, I really don't see any other sleep medicine or supplement that is safer than melatonin.
I already know my reasoning for not being able to sleep properly and that's because i haven a wonky undiagnosed overractive glandular problem, a possible autoimmune problem which is all likely stemmed by high levels of mercury toxicity which i'm still rocking. It doesn't matter how much excerise i get to tire myself out, or avoiding those foods that keep you up at night. Melatonin helps, i'm on 3mg. I find myself being able to get 7 hours of sleep, but i want at least 8 or 9 at the most.
Melatonin is actually great in my opinion. I eat healthy, exercise every day, sleep with no TV on, and go to bed at a regular time every night but still had sleep issues. I'd feel extremely tired but it would take me almost 2 hours to finally go to sleep. My doctor recommended melatonin instead of jumping to a sleep aid drug. I've been taking 1mg for almost a year. It's not addictive because I've went a few nights without it and still had a good night's sleep. I also wake up full of energy.
I don't agree with Josh anymore. There are many people taking melatonin, and they are happy with the results. Go to iherb, webmd and other websites to read reviews of melatonin users. You'll find positive feedbacks. Too much of anything is not good, so take 1mg, it's more effective than higher dose. Type, "Melatonin Deficiency" on Google, and read "Common symptoms and signs of melatonin deficiency".
That is ok and you are entitled to that. Feeling ok is not a good indicator of health. Study physiology, what melatonin is and does, when and why it is released, etc. I have worked with WAY too many people who have used it for yrs and end up with chronic fatigue, GI issues, hormonal imbalances, inflammation, etc to be a fan of it.
@joshrubineastwest So then, what is your best solution for insomnia, comparing to melatonin. WAY too many people are sleeping better with melatonin. One reason that most people need melatonin is too much light late at night, smart phones, computer screens, etc etc.
Eastern medicine focus on all natural aids. Not add or cut some of the elements analysised by some biochemical doctors because they can actually over do or less do things for you--for ex, a lot side effects you know.
Oh, even more risky, many ppl have passed away by taking too much at home due to rush tempers.
But all natural herbs or food sleep aid have no such risky, and they are balanced for you to take--ex--ginsing or lotus seeds and pearl powders--they are all can be taken for infant.:)
you talk about excess melatonin being bad but most people use it because they are low on it ,,,,and if stress releases melatonin ,why do stressed people find it hard to sleep,,also why not make it a bit more clear that small amounts of melatonin are ok instead of just saying you dont like it ,,,and whos to say what youve read is correct or just another persons opinion.......
@007cambon this guy is an idiot.. STRESS releases cortisol. besides he prob has a pineal gland where I was born without one.. so my doctor prescribed it.. melatonin, for my delayed slep phase disorder. screw this guy.. melatonin has saved my sanity by restoring my sleep:)
Hi Josh. I recently had trouble going to sleep at night. I would toss & turn in bed for 1-2 hours. So today I purchased an Extra Strength MELATONIN - 5MG - NIGHTTIME SLEEP AID. I have never taken any sleeping aid before, except something like cough syrup.
I'm just going to take 1 a night like it says on the cover. The CVS Pharmacist even said that it's Herbal and it has no "major" side effects. Am I still making a mistake? Please let me know, before it's too late for me.
Agreed and disagree...st johns wort is not safe as most have certain B vit def. If you take this the body can over produce Homocysteine. 5htp, just as dangerous as tryptophan, serotonin and melatonin...as 5htp is a precursor to all of them. Rhodiola...just a simple adaptogenic herb.
@joshrubineastwest I agree. And It's good idea to take a multi vitamin with st. john's wort which will cover all the deficiencies. Rhodiola is a safe natural antidepressant, than 5-htp. I do have a question on Tryptophan, what about all the Whey Protein powders people are taking, they contain amino acids including tryptophan, but never heard of any side effects, what do you think about it?
@redflw Melatonin is a hormone that regulates every other hormone system in the body, and when we mix up our nights and days, it screws up our appetite, it makes us eat more, it puts us at risk for a whole lot of diseases including hypertension and heart disease, and diabetes, and cancer.
Though it's a natural substance, one should not be taking Melatonin explicitly. Even if your body has a deficiency in Melatonin, it would be unwise to screw around with your body's 'natural' levels.
Josh, you just answered my question as to "why when living in darkness causes osteoporosis. I had a client that lived in the dark, a lot, and has degenerative neck and back problems. Now I know why. Yay! Thanks for the info.
I'm watching the 10 minutes.... hell I'd watch 3 hours of your Mish Mosh of Josh! Love it! Keep it up ... though I'm sure you're busy as hell with your clients.
@joshrubineastwest whatever. If you answer a question 1:1 there might be other people interested in that question, so you build up a public knowledgebase.
I appreciate your understanding! Go to my facebook, website, blog, etc if you want your questions answered. that is why i do all of this and have 0ver 700 posts on my blog, over 150 posts on youtube, over 500 articles, etc on my site, etc, etc, in order to provide you all with info so I don't have to spend time on email all the time answering questions. Thanks!
