  • How can you touch the wires if its connected to the battery!

  • ..and after using this method so make light to fix your car and solve the problem.. you suddenly find that you just short circuited the battery so theres not enough power left to actually start the car.. brightspark lol

  • How about u use the head lights

  • carry a flashlight?

  • A good survival technique. But that's about all it's good for since it is highly dangerous. Stop coming up with smart ass comments like "Why don't you just use a flashlight?" You should never find yourself doing this unless it is absolutely necessary. Like in a life or death situation for instance? Stuck in the wild?

  • graphite not led:-/

  • @Brackenkwl Graphite has lead in it. A small amount, but it does. It's not poisonous to the body unless taken in big amounts.

  • keep a torch in the car.

  • Flashlight anyone?

  • If you destroy your car battery doing this, you suck in the wild forever.

  • its just a fire

  • i dont understand

  • 12V is nowhere near enough to kill you, regardless of the amount of current. It's a minimum of 50V and 30ma to kill. That's why a 12V car battery even at 200A won't kill you, or a 1,000,000V stun gun with 3mA

  • @bchandley

No the reason a car battery at 12 volts and your propsed 200 amps won't kill you is because it is Direct Current electricity. The amperage coming from a DC source has to be much higher to stop the heart than an AC current system because it has to actually overload and basically cook the heart to kill you. An AC current system shock however can kill you at just 30 miliamps because it causes a fibrilation which causes cardiac arrest because of erratic heart rate.

  • hey, ever heard of a cell phone?

  • how many amps to running this lamp?

  • what if there's gas leaking, or your car's battery is dead???

  • Put some duct tape on the leads before turning it on and you've got an instant smoke bomb. Very toxic as well. Fun to use in class, especially if you hate everyone.

  • Wouldn't it be easier to take a light bulb from the car's headlight or somethinhg like that?

  • But But... why cant i just use a torch??

  • not very good for fixing a problem on a vehicle... or anything for that matter. Extremely dangerous method of producing light... if you drop it or touch any sort of grounding with it... you can get a nice electrical arc explosion...

    and then your dead.

This would only be a good thing as a last resort to facilitate self rescue as a signalling device for rescuers to come and find you... NOT as a light source. This is a rescue flare at best.

Sleep in your car and wait until morning.

  • @AflacMan13 wow, electrical arc explosion... You sir have no idea what you are talking about

  • @MightyJustas

I took Electrical back in High school. I DO know what I am talking about. I know that if you get the hot (positive side) wire too close to a grounding source (the car's metal body for instance) it can short and back feed along the neutral (negative/ground side) into the battery and cause the battery to overheat and explode. Ever see a car battery explode? Not to mention if there is ANY fuel leaking and the fumes contact this it will catch fire. And then you are really screwed.

  • @AflacMan13 I have been playing a lot with electricity and car batteries and I know, that now matter how close you get the wire to the other battery connector i wont arc unless you touch it. And sparks arent that big anyway to kill you, well it can cause fire if theres fumes. Batteries dont explode, they just smoke nasty stuff but you have to short it with quite thick wires for about 10 seconds or so (not sure if its hydrogen though)

  • @BRyanS72 has a good point, lets also not forget that even if you do manage to do all this with out shorting something else out, or electrifying yourself, be sure not to use bare wire here or you'll have bigger problems, this is like having a high wattage incandescent bulb hardwired to your battery, you might be able to fix the original problem, but now your battery doesn't have enough power to start the car and your still stuck. big help there.

  • no more led pencils!

  • Pencils use graphite...

  • Hey is it a #2 pencil? I have plenty of #2 lead but not #1, so I was just wondering

  • im guessing a mechanical pencil doesnt work

  • How can you extract lead from a pencil, if penciles do not contain any lead?

  • @slovan THE PENCIL LEAD!!!

  • Pointless if yourbattery works use the dome light

  • Don't forget to check fuel level LAST!

  • not having a car with a light built into the hood when it's opened

  • 2007: Forced to use your pencils.

    2011: Use your smartphone.

  • u could get a flash light

  • Cool

  • Is it really from a pencil?

  • its graphite, not lead. but still pretty awesome

  • Comment removed

  • dude thats awesome!!!

  • Why some people can't just understand ... this is interesting, don't care a thing if you have a car to lighten ur place, or a lighter, DIE >:O

  • Ummm, you could have just made a carbon arc with the pencil and aside from lasting longer, it would have produced way more light.

Look up carbon arc on wikipedia.

    Regards

    David

  • what happens when u are tryin 2 see when pouring gas lololol

  • this would be a good idea... except burning lead releases poisonous gas... :| so yeah....

  • @frostyemonemo Pencil lead is made from graphite, not lead

  • will this work with a AA a AAA a 9V or a D battery

  • if you want to get the lead out just sharpen both ends and burn the wood off with 24vdc

  • That waz way more than just a pencil!

  • Its all fun and games until there is a petrol leek :P

  • that's why i carry a flashlight in my truck

  • It was really useful to find that pesky fuel leak under the bonnet. They said my eyebrows may grow back in a year or so....

  • @c11umw rofl

  • So I have to find a pencil, split it open, remove the lead, break it into 1 inch sections, find speaker wire, strip it, wrap it around the lead, open the hood of my car, strip the other end of the speaker wire, and attach the lead to the car battery, ALL WHILE I CAN'T SEE. Ummm.........no.

  • @BRyanS72 well looks like you and 12 thumbs up never been in a car b4, called a light indicator when you open a door, enough light to see but not under the car or bonnet.

  • @BRyanS72 not true if your able to do that with your battery then mabey you just turn on the light on the top of your car then you can find one in your car then for outside your car which you cant see you use the pencil iv alctualy tried this P.S. i cant spell worth shit

  • @BRyanS72 u could do that shit of minimum light but u cat check ur car out in the dark

  • LOL! When I was in kindergarten I used to bring home the big fat pencils they had in school, sharpen both ends, and connect them to a battery with jumper cables. It's not necessary to extract the graphite rod, it extracts itself by shedding the wood in a most amusing way, leaving behind a nice glowing filament!

  • @realvanman1 kindergarten... that seriously scares me

  • @nathantnnguyen1 Hehe, well, sadly, in this day in age, I can see where you're coming from. I would do this out in the backyard, on the dirt, so it wasn't going to catch anything on fire. The batteries were old used ones from my dad's fleet of pickup trucks that he had given me, so the only thing I was guilty of was wasting a few pencils and a bit of current to recharge. I used to enjoy doing that with springs too, kinda made my dad mad that his supply of springs were no longer "springy" hehe.

  • @realvanman1 i thought you did this in a car, maybe in a booster seat. haha... but i can see what you did now

  • lol VVVVVVV

  • 56 people did this while putting fuel in their cars

  • Just try to keep small torch ,,,, much batter idea then this stupid one...

  • Fuel Leak in your car Engine, then you will be cooked with the car !!!!

  • do we need a car battery? or any battery will do?

  • Ok you might fix your puncture, but then you have to deal with a flat car battery lol, as the lead is drawing a lot of current, and with all the petrol fumes around on the old car, not the safest idea.

  • usa ur phone light. no need to thank me

  • 56 people had pens

  • @MrChipman99

    :P

  • Except most pencils are made from graphite, not lead and the fumes from that will kill you. Just keep a flashlight on you at all times, problem solved.

  • Buy a torch you dick

  • @yahoopig HAHAHAHAHA...

  • not really a pencil, just the lead but pretty cool

  • now im gana turn it in dimonds

  • thanks for sharing man!

  • the ciggerate lighter in the car uses the battery..... lol.

  • umm... im pretty sure that at 1:07 its just on fire....

  • Thanks for the solution. It is very creative.

But I have a question for you.

Will this method drain the joules out of the battery much faster and leave you get stuck with an uncrankanble engine starter?

  • I think I'll stay with my electrical torch.

  • Yet you can strip a pencil in the dark??

  • people dont start saying shit go make ur own video about it dam he just showing you something you can do seriously stop hatting and go do it urself

  • Cool little science trick, but for utility sake, there are plenty of lightbulbs in your car that can accomplish the same thing with half the engineering required lol

  • I wouldn't want that next to my motor but it's a good idea

  • если к 220 В подключить круто бабахает =)

  • @magical195 Well u will understand when you are older :) BTW I am 17 :)

  • @magical195

it is not stupid but it is not practical at all... You have to have a lot of light to see to make it and you need a lot of luck to put it on battery without killing your self... But at least it is very nice experiment and I could use it sometime, so thank you for that "jckck"...

  • Yeah you fix the problem and you've just drained the battery enough not to be able to turn the motor over to start it. DOH !

  • i find this hard to masterbate to

  • cuantos minutos dura el lapiz brillando @jckckc ??

  • Most phones actually have a light on it for photos and you can put it onto video mode, turn on the light and start recording and bam you have a light

  • Why not just pull some speaker wire out. Pull your dome light out, then use the REAL light bulb to brighten things up?

  • Comment removed

  • your just making a filament

  • or you can call somebody to come help and wait in your warm car

  • Better yet, jsut keep an actual flashlight in your car, like any half-intelligent person.

Then again, it's aazing how many folks don;t ahve a set of jumper cables and/or a tire/jack in their vehicles.

  • Dont breathe this....

  • LOL! "Don't use if you're filling up with gas!"

  • damn guys he just showed you something you prolly did not know could even happen stop bitching and use that brain of yours to learn something instead of finding stupid shit to complain about

  • fake and gay

  • i thought your car had broken down

  • you can make this so you can give this in a gar and put water inside and than glows and the best its does melting but it glows

  • or be a normal person and carry a flashlight in your glove compartment

  • Ok now i get in my dads car light a pencl in fire and stick it inside

  • very clever.. but i think i'll stick to using my phone

  • pencils don't use lead they use graphite and nearly always have done

  • pencils dont use lead they use graphite and nearly always have done

  • Or you could turn on your car lights :D

  • This is 2011 almost 99% of the population carry cellphones.

  • graphite*

  • lol. this is very impractical. cool. but very very impractical.

you can buy a car, you could also buy a flashlight :D

  • i know why the car broke down, because the bag was driving!!! :D

  • 49 people couldn't see while filling up gas

  • its also a way to kill yourself and blow yourself away 10 feet from your spot

  • And what if your car battery died which was the reason you stopped...

Not being funny, but 99.99% of us have mobile phones now. Or a flashlight in the car.

  • wow neato. talking bout survival skills cool. check out my videos the lime light review or the big apple project. hugs greengossiprl@twitter

  • its graphite not lead... fool

  • Good thing to know...But in every vehicle you must have a spare bulbs kit, at least in my country you need top have them as police will fine you if you don't, second even if you don't have spears you can take one out from your vehicle.

"Like" for the idea, use hmmm, not very useful.

  • Dude U Said Attach it to a car battery if it is dark an u have a car close then why the fuck would u bother making that when u have a car with light and it is nice and WARM in there

  • @MusicTillDieHD Dude this guy made it so he can teach people like you that it is possible to create a light source in case your car has some fault. So you mean his gonna wait till his car breaks then make this video? Don't be so ignorant.

  • i made one with a nine volt battery that i carry around in my coat

  • and how can you do this in the dark

  • could you use a normal battery

  • Or you could turn turn on your car headlights??

  • @intervidonline p.s. im not impying this isnt clever...because it is and its very usefull if you have to walk away

  • Pencil = graphite = resistor.

    Resistor + electricity = heat.

    Graphite + heat = Light.

What tells us this little 'calculation'?

    PENCIL = INSTANT - TORCH

(Just add some powdered McGyver and electricity)

    [/ fun mode off]

  • hey jckckc, does the graphite burn or simply glow as an heating element of room heater.

can we stop the process in between and light it up again?

  • @amitoj1996

It burns because it is in contact with oxygen in the air, the reason your light bulb filaments don't burn out is they're protected by the vacuum inside the bulb; there's no oxygen to react with the wire and so it doesn't burn!

  • bladerunner12 stfu he is just doing an example, atleast he took the effort to make the video to help people, and maybe you have a flash light that almost dead its only going to last for about 5 minutes more.

  • and if the problem is that your battery is dead?

  • maybe i'll just buy a flashlight.

  • whhoa!

mine blew up after 2 mins

    but why?

  • 26 th step: You've succesfully splitted the pencil but now you got splinters under your nails. So you you reach for your cellphone* and call 911.

*= Which you should have used in the first place.

anyway nice little trick but i doubt how many has got the time to do all the that, or will even be able to in a car.

  • So you can keep in a box a pencil (split already) and some wire..

Or you can just have a flashlight!

First case you impress the girls, the second saves your ass!

  • and by the time the problem is fixed the battery is dead! yay!

  • why don't you just turn on the brake lights

and reflect the light with rearview mirror (take it off first)

  • all you need is a pencil... unless it's mechanical. then you're screwed.

  • @iamtwoawesomes Nah.. if it is a mechanical one then is easier!!! Just tie up a group of the replacement parts!

    LOOOOOOOOOOL!

  • BREAKING NEWS! there was recently a new invention made! it is called the "flashlight" it uses small batteries and lasts several hours!

  • unfortunately you can only use this light in the circumference of the cables

  • pencils are made out of graphite.... not lead.... what the hell

  • pencils are made out of graphite.... not lead.... what the fuck

  • Cool

  • Grab your pencil....Yeah I did....now all I need is some porn...

  • How do you see to put this together?

"You think you can fix the problem but you can't see........"

  • @rlwieneke dumm ass u cna put on ligthg in the car so u cna do this -.-

  • @TheSuliko00 Oh wow. The passenger compartment is illuminated.....but If you still can't see under the hood, how you going to hook it up? We have invented something called a "f l a s h l i g h t". You don't have to carry flint and a torch any more.

  • @rlwieneke

it's in the event of an emergency, when your flashlight is in the store and you're miles and miles away from civilization.

Since you can't hook up your rear end to the battery so it can glow in the dark, your only choice is a pencil.

  • @ourtortsystem I carry a Shake Light (Nightstar II) in my vehicle. "Batteries" are NEVER dead. It's not as bright as a regular flashlight but it always works.

  • @rlwieneke

What if your shake light is on the fritz?

    .

I'm telling you man, this is an emergency solution, used in case of an emergency only.

It's good practical advice, when everything else fails.

  • @ourtortsystem Or Better yet, Use the information in this Video along with like 19 FT of speaker Wire and Make a Redneck firework detonator ;)

  • @Second2Rush rofl

  • @ourtortsystem it's neat science, but i don't think it has any serous practical applications.

  • @ourtortsystem The way the Nightstar II shake light is made that is unlikely.

  • @rlwieneke A lot of cars have lights under the hood I'm pretty sure.

  • @llbb010 a lot of the older cars did have lights under the hood, but most of the newer ones do not. i carry a flash light...

  • @llbb010 That is true of newer cars. I have two 90's S-10 trucks: one does, the other doesn't. I'll still carry a shake light in case the battery looses connection and the under hood light don't work.

  • I would be a bit worried about inhaling the fume it emits. Still, interesting HowTo. Drop the music and the silly scenario and you'll get 4/5 from me.

  • 43 people did not build this light.

  • So it's dark. And you're supposed to be able to see enough to split a pencil lengthwise, cut the lead into inch long segments, extract speaker wire through the door panel, and hook up to the battery without killing yourself.

  • @bladerunner12 It just said the car stopped working. So you should still have a DOME LIGHT Smart ass. If your battery has enough power to light the pencil then it has enough to turn the DOME LIGHT on. But the DOME LIGHT Wont light up the engine compartment or the wheel well like the examples he showed.

  • @bladerunner12 lol car batteries won't kill you unless your too much of a dummy

  • @fvboss429

He meant in the dark. How could you do all this in the DARK? If you didn't realize that, then your the 'dummy'. Dummy.

  • @UnseenAndInvisible dude fuck off....

  • @UnseenAndInvisible Don't be so dumb. He made this probably thinking you guys have a weaker source of light such as a cellphone which is able to help you create this source of light. I bet you're just a 15 year old kid that doesn't even consider the possibility of owning something in the car that could help you create this source if light in the dark.

  • @bladerunner12 no, he maent do this before just incase of an emergency, to split the lead like that, and have the wire in handy already coiled up to hold the lead, and if you need to use it, just stick the lead in and hook it up to your car battery with a small light (cause its dark, you can use a cell phone screen, but thats really weak lighting....) and there you go.....or you can just carry a flashlight....*cough*

  • @bladerunner12 well at least inside your car still have a light for you to perform this.

  • @bladerunner12 12V won't kill you, but you are right

  • @bladerunner12 you wont get electricuted if you put the wires on the correct way.

  • @zetor115 if its dark enough to try then then your fucked regardless

  • @bladerunner12 hahaha right
