dream theater in this song is referring to GOD when they knew God before they were an antichrist band but after they knew God they realized God seems to be so good on them even they have made mistakes and commited sins God did'nt change his love for them that's why they are thanking the Lord on the last part they experince the best of time when they let God enter their lives
Makes me shed tears. Manly tears. I love my father and this song really reminds me of times we have spent together. Don't take your parents for granted, and enjoy the wonderful time you have with them. Cherish it. This song really taught me that. Thanks, Dream Theater.

dream he the best combinations of musicians in the world,,,,, Mike Portnoy left the band, even a pen, the more they remain the fuck, really cool, and this song is one of he best in my opinion
idk how James could sing this all w/o crying lol, damn so beautiful. I thank Portnoy for writing this amazing song for his father. I lost my dad to cancer last month and will recite some lyrics from this at his Euology, I'm so grateful for music to give us understanding and help deal with pain and loss, music is one of the best tools we have to unite and share together
I lost my dad 3 months ago. He is the one who got me into Dream Theater, one of our dreams was to see these guys live...This song always reminds me of him, just the connection we had, that father-son bond, we had that...I'm 17, and he would be 45 I believe, he was a great man, a great friend, but most importantly, my dad.
@SiiKenedFate thanks, im glad someone agrees with me for once :D
mike said in an interview that in his school year book for future ambitions he wrote "to be the next Neil Peart" and im guessing his dad liked Rush as well.
Don't fucking ruin the song you dumbass, I'm usually respectful on youtube, but you crossed the line with this, not only did you do a very crappy job on changing the lyrics slightly, you fucked the song up by cutting out a chunk, and during the solos when you put those bullshit words, seriously change the title to something like "Dream Theater - The best of times (my version)" or something like that.
this song reminds me of my father, and what you did to the song is really offending. fix this.
@SirJohPetrucci Don't forget about Mike Portnoy as well. They're ridiculous and how that much talent ended up in a single band no one will ever know.
I feel honored to be living in this time zone, and when Dream Theater finally takes their own way, I don't think there will be a band even close to them for another 5,000 Years.
My dad is suffering from cancer right now and we don't know of his chances of survival. I have decided to make a picture slideshow for him. Of course, I have decided to use this song in it.
do you know what I hate, when some fukkin gods make an amazing song, about the drummer's father dieing and then some dipshit kid makes a video changing the lyrics of said song into a love song. I just hate that kinda shit. not anything against this video. . . cause like its not that gay. . . . right?
only by the song i can imagine how it feels loosing your father.. Portnoy did expressed his feelings in a beautiful way through this song. JP never fails to amaze me!!! The emotion in the solo from 6:52 takes your breath away ... There's blues influence there, neo-classical, the usual signature harmonics and alt picking madness but all restrained enough to keep it relevant. Also the synergy between him and Portnoy has to be the most natural I've ever heard - really does the theme of the song justice. Brilliant!!! Not nuts about the album, but this is fu**ing sick!
