  • Way better than this modern pop/rap crap.

  • Lovin' the scat bit.

  • he looks a bit like Bruce Campbell...wheres his BOOM STICK!!!!

  • the Zoot suit was designed to be over the top. It was designed to bring attention to yourself. When you rocked a zoot suit you were saying "I want to be the center of this party"

  • 1998 return of swing. The best kind of music ever

  • Anyone who knows about US history in the 1940s understands these lyrics to a T!!!

  • I like the Big Band theme that this song exhibits!!!

  • Playing this in jazz band this year ♥ (:

  • love the swing, nothin like it,never will be

  • This is good, but I like Wierd Al's version better

  • I like this version better, the video fits the song more

  • i remember learning the Jitterbug to this song when i was a little kid. im a bit rusty at it now, but i still love the dance, and this song will always be awesome! :D

  • I think the video has been altered!! The dude with the hat isn't in the video MTV used to play!

  • @GRACIEBARRAUSA There were two videos for this song. This one never aired on MTV; the one you're thinking of is linked in the description ( /watch?v=rq7fuCRJULk )

  • @lilbrunodakid Kiss my lily white a** you stupid freakin punk!!!!

  • fuking white boys had 2 all ways fuk every thing up der were b no NORTE or SUR if they let the PACHUCOS alone

  • I HATE that I can't hear this song without thinking of "Grapefruit Diet." Thanks weird Al. Blow Fatty!

  • @12GaugeSteel hahaha. I know the feeling.

  • My love for this song drives my parents insane.

  • eclectic song

  • The sweatier he gets... the more the lead singer reminds me of Bruce Campbell... O.o

  • i love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • and ya wonder why this music went the way of the dinosaurs...here's why! WTF is wit da hat? I bet these guys haven't popped one cherry between all of them unless they were all holding her down! WTF!

  • This is my favorite song to play in jazz band. It's what originally inspired me to move on from trumpet (the third of many instruments I play!) onto a tenor saxophone! For any beginners out there I encourage you to either start with a clarinet (no, it's not gay) or a saxophone. It helps build up the air flow needed to play other instruments. I also would be glad to answer any questions on fingerings or any other type of questions

  • I love how swing/rockabilly have almost become one now :) Swing has Cherry Poppin' Daddies and rockabilly has Stray Cats. Ahhh I love it :) the sounds are so similar now

  • @TravisTeego They'll become one soon, since the Daddies are finishing up their first rockabilly album for release in early 2012. Keep an eye out for it at daddies-dot-com. :)

  • @TravisTeego Bran Setzer, leader of the Stray Cats, started a swing band called the Brian Setzer Orchestra.

  • this song inspiered me to pick up a horn i remember being 11 years old sitting in my room jamming to this trying to play along with my trumpet years later we played it in jazz band fun song to play havent heard it in a long time thanks for posting it

  • We should bring zoot suits back.

  • Man I love the 90's. Sure it wasn't the most original decade, but it seemed like styles from through last century got their last shot in that decade.

  • screw you Luke Brekfastbawler for making me like this song

  • i am playing this for my jazz band and it sounds sweet.

  • i love this song

  • swing music rules over almost all other old school music. SWING FOR THE WIN ON ANY DANCE FLOOR. GIVE ME MORE!!! born 1984 but still can't get enough..

  • swing rules over most any of the old school types of music. SWING FOR THE WIN on any dance floor!

  • grapefruit diet...

  • My jazz band is playing this song. My band teacher said it had something inappropriate for school-"Zoot Suit Riot (riot) Da da la da da da something inappropriate"- so I went to see what it was. [/pathetic]

    I listened to this.

"Zoot Suit Riot (riot) Throw back a bottle of beer!"

    BEER?!?

Oh wow, that is so fucking my band teacher.

  • Best fucking stadium band song ever, we go ham up in the stands for this one. TUBA DROPS FOR THE FUCKIN WIN

  • ...Fucking Jazz!

    Very good!

  • Lolz at the comments becoming an argument over marching band....

    Great song

  • @MaddiesBeauty1 as a note in case you don't want to look it up, this song is a referance to the zoot suit riots, a time when the us servicemen brutalized wearers of zoot suits. They were dragged from their cars, theaters, diners, and any other place they were found and beaten severely. Oh and this was seen as a "cleansing" action to rid LA of it's Hispanic community. One step from genocide.

  • who else sees the crucified chicken?

  • I'm just that much less cool, because I watched this... It was worth it.

  • So very original! Gawd, I miss all of this quirky, eclectic stuff!

  • I so love this 40's swing stuff better than the shit that's on the radio and TV nowadays.

  • Ahhh. Back when we lindy hoppers used to dress up to go out dancing. : )

  • i could dance to this all day long good grove to it

  • @MaddiesBeauty1 I really hope your Teacher explained the what this song is about...

  • this is the greatest musical video of all time

im going to learn his dance moves

  • Oh Nathan Rabin, you overcritical fuck! This song is pretty good!

  • swing music is better when you know how to swing dance and can imagine what moves you would do with this song.

  • @assasin8431 I concur, sir :D

  • whaaaat!! why is David Brent in this video??? 1:10 !!

  • The song is okay and the name of the band is very unsuitable for a band that makes music of this style.

  • @lazypd3 I rather agree.

  • Why is there a bat on the cross in 2:49?

  • @DryBONESreborn why do random things just pop up in the vid, no relation to the song. just creepy stuff

  • Zoot Suit Riot is a true story World War II Los Angeles Locals and Naval Base Sailor Riot. President order (Truman, I think) of Sailors confined to LA Naval base. Awesome documentary. If you watch, you'll hear the song with a new point of sound. I love this song

  • what's with all the shaking?? it's gonna give me a seizure...

  • Learning about Zoot Suit riots in history right now.

  • I used to listen this when I was little, I found it in my big brothers CD collection. I'm 19 no and I now realize why my parents had such a problem with the band name.

  • I have no idea how this is considered ska of any sort. It's amazing, just not ska/swing. Only swing.

  • @neeeee5eeeee This particular song isn't, but the Cherry Poppin' Daddies themselves play both ska and swing music.

  • @Skibz778 Sorry but I disagree. Where is the ska? Sounds like pure swing to me. Let's not argue about it and just enjoy them. Love these guys.

  • @ottoelperro As stated before, this *song* isn't ska, but the *band* themselves are half so. They play both. They even released an all-ska album a few years back, 'Skaboy JFK'. Check it out at daddies-dot-com.

  • @Skibz778 More bands need to be this well versed in multiple genres.

  • 10-8-2011. Ain't it great? Steve Perry is 48. Happy Birthday, Steve.

  • just got off the phone with steve perry, the lead singer.

    HOLY SHIT

  • Our marching band is totally rocking this song for our show this season :)

  • @Av3ng3dFoREVer nice, our marching band tried to do this 3 years ago, but the band director sucked and nothing happened. (he got fired after that year.) best of luck to you.

  • @Av3ng3dFoREVer marching band is for fags, dont ruin a good song

  • @g0ing2n0where I don't think you quite understand what the word "fag" means. I have been in the marching band for 2 years now and I have yet to see one "fag" in my band or any other band. And as for it "ruining" the song, I've heard several marching bands perform this song and I loved it. If you don't like marching music that's fine, more power to ya, but it is not, as you say, for fags, and it does not ruin songs, it merely does them in a different way.

  • @Av3ng3dFoREVer ...Not sure if it's the best idea for a marching show, but our jazz band played this at a school swing dance. Generally, you don't want to do songs that were popular at any point as a marching show. This past year, our marching band played Medusa and placed in the top 3 at 4 marching shows against bands with more money and more players, including sweeping one and getting Best Percussion, Best General Effect and Best Music with our 1st place prize.

  • damn i finally found it :D

  • love this band !!! ty

  • I played this in jazz band. Let me tell you. This is real music. Everyone else like Kesha and Justin Bieber can suck it. they'll never be as good as this.

  • omg i completely forgot this song dam its still good

  • u know how hard this song is to play in pep band? REALLY FREAKIN HARD still a ton a fun to play. specially since i play mellaphone.

  • My marching band is playing this for our show

    VHS FTW!

  • This is one of my favorite songs =)

  • Zoom, zoom, Ryan!

  • Grapefruit diet (DIEEET!)...

  • So basically I had two CD's when I was four, one was NOW 1, and I sang along to this song, but I didn't know ANY of the words. "Zoot Suit Riot"? I think I said "Soob soob ried."

  • Grapefruit diet was much better.

  • These guys are the finest thing to come out of Oregon since Tillamook Cream Cheese. What are they up to now?

  • @joshuabrooks21 They're still touring and recording. They're currently working on a new album (#8) due to be released at the end of the year or early next. Check out more at daddies-dot-com.

  • @Skibz778 God, I would love to hear more of their music on the radio nowadays. I hope they release another single like this one. Can I get an amen?

  • @joshuabrooks21

They toured earlier this year around the world. I saw them in Sydney, Australia. They rocked the house!

  • i hate this horrible corny ass music

  • @zimmcat Then don't listen to it, genius!

  • not too much better than a walkin bass

  • the mask

  • Smmoookkkinn!! lol

  • 1) good beat....2) I ever dance like that....I pray to god my wife shoots me.....3) I'd look better in a swing suit better then him, but I'd look too italian mob for my own good.

  • We play this in band all the time, and since I'm the lead trombone I get to whale out the main melody like a boss. This is the only song that really gets me into my music.

  • Thanks summer camp 5 years ago for teaching me about this music.

  • This song serves two purposes. 1. The only "kids" listening to this kind of music out of the appropriate era, ever, in history, were the 90s kids. Raw fact.

    2. People can act like they're eclectic and have diverse musical tastes by having this song in their iDevices.

    :D

  • @QBFOJustin Not so much...I loved big band when I was a kid..a milion years ago in the 70's.

  • @debbiechickie5 well of coursse sure back in the day that's fine. I mean more for when this song came out back in the 90s. It's not 90s music. It's more of an ode to its appropriate era. People from that era indeed would listen to this.

  • I saw these guys last year in Astoria, OR and they had 'em singing along and dancing in the aisles. Great show!

  • The beginning of this song sounds like Donkey Kong music.

  • my god i cant believe when i first heard this band telling ppl theyre the cherry poppin daddies i was like 9 years old hahahaa

  • Who else thinks Steve looks just like Elvis?

  • Fuckin A man.Love the groove

  • One of my favorite songs about one of my favorite subjects. I love American history, I love Mexican history, and I love when the two come together... even in a tragic manner as the Riots, it's still interesting to learn about.

  • CLASS

  • Soooooooooooo, the band name is about people losing their virginity?!?!

  • this video is far better than the one that they slicked-up!

  • I'm only 37 but sometimes, when I hear swing, it feels like I can remember old days when it was king. :)

  • Doesn't this guy look like "Mac" from "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia"?

  • my daddy popped my cherry and i find this name really offensive

  • @IFknHateUTube Shut the hell up, no one wants to hear sob stories, this is a great band and awesome song.

  • @bentleyb93 You shut the hell up...his sob story cracked me up.

  • @jimdsnow I laughed my ass off to, dumbass.

  • @bentleyb93 u mad because you're still a virgin?

  • @IFknHateUTube Hahaha that's funny as sexy as I am a virgin you must be shitting bricks fool.

  • @IFknHateUTube if your going to be offended by a name then why are you on the internet

  • @IFknHateUTube Then your daddy is a redneck idiot.

  • @IFknHateUTube Sucks for you. Nobody is forcing you to listen to this music.

  • Dang, he's got some nice moves

  • The most dancinst white people ever! :D

  • Dudes, this tune is about the zoot suit riots in LA in the 40's. Lots of kick drum, lots fo dancin'.

  • i played that song today on the drumset in a concert today i nailed it

  • still watching this in 2011~~!!!!

  • tooooooooooo siiiiiiiick

  • I can't believe that song was made after One by Metallica

  • is this cherry poppin daddies???

  • @laterdelater ...

  • @laterdelater NO SHIT

  • @browncoat697, as a drummer myself, I disagree. I think this song would feel kind of empty without the constant bass drum on the pulse. This is just up-beat jazz/funky stuff.. Maybe when you look at less in your face swing then by all means, less bass drum. But in my opinion, this drummer knows what he is doing, and is tight as hell!

  • Zoot Suit Riot... RIOT!

  • I like his hat.

  • I thank Weird Al for introducing me to this amazing song.

  • My band and I played this song in high school in Italian. Then when I got married we danced to this song. It follows me anywhere

  • reminds me of my middle school grad dance

  • ew! daddies seem like pedos! they pop ther little girls cherries

  • I can't help but think that the drummer, while okay, is using way too much goddamn bass drum. When I play swing stuff, I'm very light on the bass drum, only using it occasionally in fills and obviously whenever I hit a crash. Now, when I go and play some thrash metal, I don't hold back a bit on the bass drum...

  • @browncoat697 Dude, that's how they did it in the fourties....the louder the bass the better the beat...

  • @robnrick1 Hm, that's not really how I hear it. When I go listen to some Count Basie, I hear the bass drum used sparingly. I consider the hi-hat to be what makes a jazz/swing beat good. If the drummer can keep the hi-hat consistent, loud, and swinging, it's great.

  • @browncoat697 Being a jazz drummer myself for 30 years, I can tell you if you are playing with a smaller combo or in a smaller venue, then yes you'd want less kick drum. But with a big band jazz sound such as CPD you need more to keep yourself from being drowned out by the other instruments. There is nothing unusual in his use of the kick drum. The biggest mistake a drummer can make in a big band is to play timid.

  • @browncoat697 and that's why you are not a real swing drum player i believe he is playing it how it should be to judge his bass kicks would mean your like twelve years old and you like to play nirvana crap grow up and don't judge music until you make some douche bag

  • @madskitz305 Actually, he's more or less correct. In traditional jazz/swing, the bass drum is mainly used as an accent or as means of straight timekeeping (four-on-the-floor). All of the '90s "neo-swing" bands make the beat faster and heavier, with less emphasis on the cymbals, so it's easier to dance to.

  • @madskitz305 I'm 16 and usually play, when I'm just messing around, Evile, so no, I'm not 12 and playing Nirvana crap. From what I've been instructed to do for the last few years in jazz band, I've been told to be light on the bass drum. Now, obviously that isn't always the case, and perhaps for the big, dancy swing songs in the future I'll give that bass drum a good whacking.

Now, can you avoid namecalling and genuine asshattery in the future? I've played drums 8 years, I have an idea here.

  • the part where hes bobbing around could become a meme! XD

  • yea lead singer reminds me of jim carrey in the MASK lol!!

  • @buffalowings89 that's because he's actually wearing a zoot suit in the mask :P

  • I would love to have my cherry popped by a Zoot Suit-wearing daddy! (but not any of the band members). :-)

  • @bworiginal im an original zoot suiter been caring it from my dad =) got a black one and a blue and a withe suit with the drapes black lol ;)

  • Really? Then, would you like to pop my cherry? @addikt805

  • i had to play this song and im a believer in band

  • Need more swing and or swing revival music...i swear to God, its like editing a wiki page or using heroine.

  • FREAKING AWESOME!

  • i didnt know them at first but i went ta the 1st warped tour ever they were there i dont remember much cus i was baked but wat i do remember was that they fuckin rocked

  • @bestpickle1 i know how you feel.

  • man, I love playing this kinda music in Pep Band at school. I get one more year, and I graduate... THis sucks, I'm never going to get this experience again... :/

  • True story - About 10 yrs ago, I was blasting this song in my car one day when I was sitting at 202 and 1(in Pennsylvania) at a red light....This 70yo woman looked back at me with the biggest smile on her face....I waved at her, she waved back at me, and that's all that needed to be said. Every generation has it's "good ole days"...and that day we overlapped....it was one of the most awesome moments ever.

  • @wahahn .....LOL....Awesome story!!!

  • This weekend El Paso Tattoo expo can't wait to see them.

  • I seen this band several days ago and they were great. I managed to meet the singer after the show. He is a very cool guy.

  • taken me all 16 years of my life to finally find good proper music (:

  • i would love to learn how to swing dance..love this song

  • I love swing dancing to this song!

  • ssooo howd they come up with the band name?

  • @GasserVsGoodyball It was taken from a lyric in a 1930's blues song which went "I'll be your cherry-poppin' daddy man". It was just supposed to be a joke name for their first show, but it got a good response so they kept it.

  • @Skibz778 ohhh interesting...most interesting

  • @Skibz778 I was told that they were being interviewed when the song was playing in the background. When asked what their name was it was the line that was playing. They looked at each other and new they had it.

  • @Skibz778 Was this song originally from the 1940's? Or does it just sound like it.

  • the zoot suit jacket is way too big for the lead singer and it makes him look like a kid LoL!

  • @TiberiusStorm Wasn't that part of the 'zoot suit' style? Oversized?

  • @slydog75 It is indeed the style of the zoot-suit. I rented one for prom a few months ago and it looked exactly like that in terms of length.

  • best dance song EVERRRRRRRRRR!!!!

  • ya gotta dig the zoot....

  • i remember havin this one the first NOW cd lol the only good one

  • I find this video hard to masterbate to

  • What is with all the Satanic images flashing throughout? A devil, a chicken nailed to a cross, a heart on an alter, and 1:44 shows a serpent... and 1:46 is creepiest of all..an eyeball on an alter. Really, WTF?

  • @qwertyduel no idea who edited that sht in...
