  • probably my favorite korean dish. I have always wondered why it is only seasonal at my local korean restaurant though.

  • @TehTr0nik its seasonal as it is eaten during summer, i eat it almost every 4 days at singapore... due to the hot weather....

  • 여름보다 겨울에 먹는게 냉면이죠 :D

  • @alansixx86 oh you must like naengmyeon, too! : )

  • originated from north korea.

  • Hehe, I couldn't understand what you said at the end there! It sounded like "Don't forget to sub" :)

  • i want you to be my mother

  • What a fantastic video! I just went out for Korean food for the very first time yesterday, and had a delicious bowl of bibim naeng myun. I enjoyed seeing how to make it at home! You're a fantastic instructor. Can't wait to watch your other videos.

  • you should try adding the bibim naengmyun sauce to the mul naengmyun

  • I absolutely love this video. Really good content and a pleasure to watch you cook.

  • Can I use any kind of mustard powder?

  • I've always wanted to make naengmyeon, but never found a good recipe. I do believe yours will be the winning one. I can't wait to try it out.

  • She should edit this video and use jessica's naengmyun song XD

  • any Jessica fans here?

  • I have this at home all the time, if your mul kimchi is epic as my mom's all you need is the soup from mul kimchi (dilute with some water) and just add noodle. Seriously don't need other stuff, natural original taste!

  • @Madamebutterfly91 'On The Radio' by Regina Spektor

  • Is the bag powder at 4:33 the same as the broth you made at 4:19? Like you made the broth by yourself with all the ingredients but is it the same if you just mix that bag with water?

  • @uyenous yes, you can use the soup powder to make broth. Mix it with water and kimchi juice. Or You can make your own broth by boiling beef or chicken.

  • @Maangchi Thank you!! Your videos are so helpful!!

  • the way you presented it was so natural! I like the part 'I know your mouth is watering now' hahaha..... Great video !!!

  • HAMMER! xDD

cause that's EXACTLY what's happening to me!

  • @wildoetz : )

  • @Maangchi

You will not believe it but i served this today to my parents who normally eat traditional german food like Schweinsbratenten with Klößen or Bratwurst with Sauerkraut- they LOVED it!

I would never have expected to see my father eat cold noodles!

It was so great and so funny! Thank You Maangchi!

  • @sunshineladyxxx awesome! Great news!

  • Can you eat naengmyeon hot?

  • hahah this reminds me of sica singing naengmyun 8D

  • How you make hot pepper paste??

  • ohhh my god it looks sooo good !!!!!! >_<;;

  • That little knife to cut the boiled egg is so cute!! hahaha

  • Those two particular dishes are very, very delicious. I don't think I tasted anything better in my life. WOW!

  • @SarahHall87 I love them, too!

  • Reminds me of Japanese churu-churu just nice a spicy. I want to try that one looks great.

  • aww that knife you had when cutting

the egg was so cute ^__^

  • Naengmyun, naengmyun, naengmyun! :D

  • I like how it seems like when you cook you make giant batches of the dish you are making. It's quite interesting and unique.

  • Maybe im just not used to eat noodles with icy cold soup, and with eggs, wow for me its a pretty weird combination

  • oh wow, i really like the moolnaemyung. i didn't realize that you have to wash the noodles. thank you for making the video.

  • This looks absolutely yummy!

  • i went to korean restaurant and i order cold noodle (it has buckwheat) and I notice you don't add vinegar or apple cinder vinegar. A korean waitress gave me the little bottle and I asked what is that, she said it's vinegar. Told me to add into the noodle. It was sooo good with vinegar! I think it's very healthy but it taste like apple cinder vinegar. I'm wondering if this is the same type of cold noodle that can add vinegar?

  • @KewpieGirl yes. but it's a condiment that can be added after you cook the food. not everyone likes vinegar. I guess maangchi doesn't like to add it either

  • i wish you're my mom ^-^

  • Thank you once again Maanchi! My husband enjoyed this recipe very much (the spicy version)! I'm really craving Yangam Chicken and Spiky Korean Chicken too, but I can't seem to find any receipes for it. Do you have any recipes for these on your blog?

  • @MobileKitteh yes, check dakkangjung recipe. More chicken recipes will be posted in the future, too. Thank you!

  • yeah ya yeah ya warning! warning! no no!

ok sry that was ptless, but that looks delicious :] (looks tastier than chinese cold noodles too haha)

  • awesome~~ so right when you said 'your mouth is watering' haha

    yummy....i want nangmyun xD

  • i always was lookin´ for this recepie! thank U very much for this!

on top of that, you´re very good looking

  • This video is very cute and makes me so hungry for naengmyeon!!

  • im eating naengmyeon right now! it is good. ;D

  • @zana820 awesome! Congratulations!

  • Hi Maangchi! I love Korean food and my wife who is also Korean. We both enjoy cooking and your intructions are great. We wonder if you have a recipe for beef "jumuluk". It is almost summer time and we have a small back yard and want to make this at home with friends. We make samgyup sal often during the winter time with an electric grill but we wish for a good marinade for jumuluk to cook over charcoal.

    Thanks

    James and Doyoung

  • @jmatamusk James and Doyoung! Thank you very much for your nice message.

Check my "grilled beef" recipe. Prepare tenderloin beef and slice it rather than cuting it into chunks. Then add salt (very little), minced garlic, and chopped green onion. Mix it all together by hand.(In korean this step is called "jumulleok"" : )

  • This looks amazing!!!!!!!! One of my favorite Korean dishes!!!!! Maangchi, Thank you so much!!!!!!!

  • @iaccik u are very welcome!

  • Naeng Myun broth made of "anchovies, mushrooms, and kelp"?

Are you sure this is the RIGHT recipe for Naeng Myun broth???

  • @ilovekpop906 This broth is my favorite! Some people use beef or chicken stock which is more traditional. Some people use anchoy stock (myulchi gukmul). Thank you for your comment. I will think about making naengmyun video using chicken and beef stock someday.

  • i just love 냉면, it's my favorite food of all time. i am south korean who lives in california and i really love it! <3 well that and kimchi of course!

  • Hi Maangchi

Can you tell me the difference between Hamhung and Pyongyang Noodles? Thanx!

  • 맛있겠다

  • oh THANK YOU i LOVE the naengmyun with the spicy chilli sauce. and I always order it but now i know how to make it too! =) thank you so much! =) and yes i was drooling haha

  • where can you get the hot pepper paste?

  • @petertheasian at a Korean grocery store. Check "where do you get korean ingredients" on the forum on my website.

  • Comment removed

  • @sungkie777 Reading your comment makes me feel like having naengmyun now! : ) I should make it soon.

  • no problem =]

  • omg i bought a bag of this noodle from the korean plaza, just made it , and omg it so good, so spicy though

  • wow, thank you for your update!

  • Neng myun is awesome. :D

  • if i cant find Naengmyun noodle, what type of noodle can i used?

  • Naengmyun is always made with buckwheat noodle

  • machigeta ahjama!!my mom loves these!!she said it reminds if her back then in korea eat

  • Maangchi! I enjoy all of your videos very much. Its one of the very few useful things on Youtube. I am not Korean but I love Korean food and cook some from time to time. I like your accent: Usually when I open a Korean cooking video and hear american english i switch it off. Korean english = genuine Korean cooking! English is not my 1st language, but i have no problems with understanding. Keep it up!

  • I don't understand. I bought the noodles (the same brand as in the video) and the front says 4 servings. They provide you with 4 packets of mustard oil and only 2 packets of the soup base powder. What if you're making 1 serving of the noodles, do you use half a packet of the soup base powder or 1 whole packet for 1 serving?

Thanks Maanchi for your cooking videos. They're really helpful :D

  • The soup base is very salty, so 1 packet is for 2-3 servings. For 1 serving, use the half packet of soup base. I usually throw the packets away and make homemade stock which is less salty and no MSG.

  • Thank you very much Maangchi :D

By the way, you're very pretty and cute :)

  • waaaaaaaa I wanna tryyy!!! it look s so delicious.. and you right my mouth is watery now!! O.o hahhaaaa...

  • dilicous

  • isn't it called vermicelli?

  • No, it's called Naengmyun (Cold bukwheat noodles). Vermicelli is thinner

  • um i think vermicelli is made out of starch ...and the naengmyun noodles ur supposed to use is made out of buckwheat. its just a lot chewier

  • Very nice! It looks delicious!

  • yay, I finally know how to make it correctly! Thanks so much!

  • You are very welcome!

  • I love watching you cook . You are pretty your cooking instructions are simple to follow and I want to eat what you teach each and everytime I watch. Thank you

  • Thank you very much!

  • lol MyungCaDrive - NaengMyun XD(lolz if u dunno whut that is just search it on yt)

    wow i gotta try this...looks yummy~ ^_^

  • I am heading to the Asian supermarket right now!

  • yayee! My fingers are crossed! Let me know how it turns out!

  • Our Asian supermarket in Germany got no naengmyun! So I just bought japanese soba, because it says on the cover "buckwheat noodles", and no yeolmu as well. I just bought radish instead. :-(

  • maangchi, u are super, I love u. I'll try this receipe. tks.

  • hello, maangchi :)

    i REALLY want to make

    this dish, but i dont

    have any yeolmu kimchi!!

i read one of your responses

    to make pickled radish,

but i don't know how to make that either..

  • This is my favorite food XD :D its so delicious!~! i hope you make some more XD Yummy

  • I know its caled cold buckwheat noodles but can we eat it hot?

    Or will it taste weird?

  • it will taste wierd trust me.

  • you are really good nextime i'll try to make this dish . godbless to you~

  • this dish has been one of my favorite foods and i've never known what it was called.. i just ask for cold buckwheat noodles..lol~! but now not only do i know what it's called but i know how to make it myself~! thank you so much~!

  • wonderful! naengmyeon is my favorite food, too. delicious!

  • ma shie gete tae~ ^_^

    (looks good :D)

  • Whenever I was little, my mom would always make me mul naeng myun for celebrations because she knew it was my favorite.

Everytime I watch one of your videos it reminds me of how my mom was when I was little. You remind me so much of her.

  • The music is distracting.

  • I want to make this, but I don't think I can handle that much hot pepper. Maybe just a few tablespoons of red pepper flakes will keep the yummy flavor.

  • how much does that bucket of gochujang err the hot pepper paste cost?

  • around 4-5 American dollars

  • i felt my tongue burning as i saw you make the sauce! so hot! i'm not used to something so hot, so maybe i'll try the other one without the red sauce, lol. They both look so good!

  • Nice work, we liked your video very much so we embedded it on ChefCommons . com w/ link back and reference to Youtube. (Let us know if you don't wish for it to be featured)

  • 대부분 한국사람들은 정확히 넣지 않고

    그냥 손의 감각으로 하는데

이렇게 하면 음식 만들기가 더 쉽줘 그렇줘? ^^

  • Do I have to eat this cold? Can it be serve HOT??

  • Has to be cold. Ice cold actually. It's a summer dish. Why would you want it hot?

  • it can't be served hot because this is a summer dish.

it was made to eat only cold.

there's other dishes that can be served hot

    like jan chi gook soo.

  • 냉면 항상 참 맛있어요!

  • Fantastic videos {:o) too bad I didn't learn of your videos until after I'd left korea. I love that tiny little butcher knife!

  • your like the korean rachael ray =P looks good

  • Please, tell me what music is it that you used for this video. I love it and I don't know what it is.

  • It's 'On The Radio' by Regina Spektor

    Thank you!

  • Have you ever ate it? I sounded kind of odd to me since it's cold water, but it looks really really good! Any way you can tell me how it tastes? If not how good does it taste to you!

  • it's a very cold, sour (from the vinegar), and sweet. it can have a slight kick, depending on how you dress. it's DELICIOUS - i can eat it EVERY DAY during the summer and not get sick of it :)

  • i had just some 물 냉면 today for my birthday :)

  • Happy Birthday! : )

  • thank you btw my bdays tomorrow

  • what is yeol mu mul kimchi? kimchi is like the spicy sauce or something right? so can we just use the normal kimchi or does it have to be yeol mu mul kimchi?

  • check out my yeolmu mulkimchi recipe. You can use kimchi sure, why not

  • I have been eating almost everything day since last summer. It is very unique and every Korean mom has a receipe of their own. I have been hopping to all my Korean friend's home + different restaurants to try different types of naeng myun - are they good or what? It reminds of the cold noodles in Japan, Beijing, and Shanghai. Very different in texture but they are all yum yum! ManngChi chickie - U are awesome! U saved me hundreds of $ from going to Korean cooking classes!

  • Thank you! It sounds like you love noodle dishes. So do I!

  • I am going crazy right now cuz of naengmyun.

  • Looks good!!

I like the bamboo basket. It's much more eye pleasing than plastic basket.

  • my mom makes this all the time with beef and its so good!!! xD

  • i love neang myung =]

  • this is the best my grandma makes this every time :)

  • you are making me HUNGRY :D

  • yum! Naeng Myun is my favorite. Perfect on hot days =]

  • Naeng Myun is unique, even non-Korean asians can't eat it because of the texture of the noodles - hard core traditionalists like the noodles 'rubber chewy' however if you want to introduce the dish for some non-Korean friends, it's ok to overcook the noodles a little bit. You either hate it or love it.

  • I don't like naeng myun :( The texture makes me want to vomit. I wish I could like it because it looks like such a nice thing to eat!! :)

  • haha, some people don't like the texture of naengmyeon noodles. You are not alone. : )

  • Thank you Maangchi this looks super good. :D

  • ooh...i'm hungry:[..!it look so yummy:]

  • 너무 대단합니다!!! 쉽게 만들수 있을 것 같습니다.

    냉면을 먹고 싶습니다.

    감사합니다.

  • i retried this again it worked!!! it was soo gooddd!!! but i think my boyfirend is sick of it cuz i made both at the same time : ) and its Asian paer season right now tooo : )

  • lol, thank you for your update!

  • You are awesome!

I fell in love with this dish after "discovering" it recently, will try to make it under your instructions.

    Thank you =)

  • Thank you! Let me know how your cold nooldles turn out

  • hey maangchi i just made these noodles today but i feel like my noodles were to soft which is weird cuz i only cooked it for like 2 mins and i rinsed them like 4 times help???

  • Did you buy the same style of noodles as I use?

Check out ingredients section on my website. I posted the photo of the noodles. Your noodles must be precooked product. Precooked noodles are sold in frozen. You will have to cook very short time. Maybe 10 seconds? Right after putting the noodles in boiling water, stir it with your spatula for some seconds, and rinse them in cold water. That's it.

  • hehe....very different from the way that our family eats Naeng Myun....but it still looks very delicious!

Hmmm...I'm craving for some naeng myun now, maybe I'll try to make this for lunch tomorrow! :)

  • hoho,34 seconds ago, you left this comment. We're at the computer at the same time! : )

Yes, more authentic style of naengmyun made with beef stock and dongchimi (radish water kimchi) is not posted yet. This cold noodle is just simple to make using yeolmu water kimchi. Thank you!

  • AAA I HATE YOU

my mouth is SOOOO watery now aaa i want some tooo lol

  • Maangchi

Maybe next time you should show how to make
