No, there is definitely more to this than meets the eye. The production team is getting the fans riled up and anxious with these trailers. But Contracts kinda goes from the whole trip down memory lane thing, so it has no exact place in the time line, at least that I care to pin point. @Haze993 Assassins Creed came out after Hitman, Deadpool and Deadshot weren't featured in any video games until post 2000, Scorpion is not renowned of being an assassin despite back story, V (assuming you mean from V for Vendetta) was of depicticated as a charming Anarchist/Revolutionary not so much an assassin, and the Naruto Manga was not released until 2003 (us). and Revi from Black Lagoon is indeed a Mercenary and did not exist until April 2002. Hitman (2000) Reigns King.

It is sad they have killed off Diana but we knew from the start it was gonna have to happen. Read the description it says: 'Having just killed his ICA handler Diana Burnwood, the Original Assassin accepts her dying wish and takes on a very personal contract.' So although she maybe dead I think the story will still heavily evolve round her. Maybe you have to save her sister at the orphanage?...

I know everyone is pissed that Diana has to die but I think this is the best move they've made in the series. This game is supposed to change the direction of the franchise because to be honest the developers and the fans would eventually get tired of contract killings. At least now there's going to be a real story line that has nothing to do with contracts but personal missions of both redemption and revenge....dare i say, they've humanized 47 (which i think we were all anticipating).
I'm also pretty confused why game companies assume that by completely revamping franchises will restore some sort of support in the game. Hitman was good because it pretty much stayed faithful to the old gameplay, but by making things completely new (read: not sticking to the old blueprint), the company thinks it will somehow rejuvenate the series. In the end, I think this alienates more people than it attracts.
Isn't 47 supposed to be extremely intelligent and have genetic augmentation? Given that, it wouldn't be a long shot to assume that 47 can figure things out quickly. It is rather contradictory that 47 was NOT aware that Diana's motives were to protect him rather than betray him. Of course, he figured this out after he killed her. I do agree that killing her off was somewhat rash, and most likely revelation of this fact until the game is released would've disquieted anger about her death.
For those of you who are not fans of the series, people are mad at the idea of 47 killing Diana because it was Diana that saved 47's life in Blood Money. Yes, she "betrayed" him, but she did it so that he could survive, and it allowed 47 to later on take revenge on his enemies.
The only good explanation of 47 killing Diana is that he didn't realize that Diana actually saved his life, and he only found this out seconds after shooting her. It would explain why he chose to honor her dying wish.

I think it's great he killed Diana. You can't really say that you've lived the life of a killer to the fullest until you kill your boss. And you know what would be great about the voice actor part? If 47 didn't speak in this game. If I'm not missing something, I don't think we ever heard his voice in any of the trailers, or even the "Run for your life".
However, I will still buy the game. I'm gonna gonna bitch about the changes (Other than killing Diana) until I play the game and see if they ruined the series or not.

As much as people want Bateson, and I am one of them, this game will still be amazing without him. Don't judge an entire game by it's THIRD trailer. Trailers are created to spark excitement, they don't always reflect the gameplay in the final product. Wait till 2012 to enjoy 47's glorious return!

The woman saved him by faking his death, risking her own life, when she could have just killed him. Feelings or not, you've gotta be dumb to want to kill her, in his position. If he really does kill her in the game, I'll be disappointed even if it's a good Hitman.
@chriswere9 While I'm sure the game will be fun this does stick of Hitman conviction. A big budget remake that is nothing that the fans of the series would have wanted. The change in composer, voice actors, etc all demonstrate a readiness to throw away the series hallmarks. I've never played a Hitman game but I'd be very surprised if this is a gameplay successor to Blood Money.
My latest satisfying game was in Blood Money (Opera), as I put a toolbox (with a bomb inside) in front of the private balcony's door, replaced the WW1 pistol in the changing room, then sat down like an innocent spectator.
A second after the actor got shot, I quietly triggered the bomb and watched the grand final: my target flew from the balcony, over the spectators, and landed on the scene, next to his compadre.
Then, I calmly stood up and slowly walked away, by the front door. Feelsgoodman.
I hope the whole "w00t I shot 3v3ryon3 lik3 a n!nj4" drama won't be the main part of the game,
Hitman is about stealth and smallest amount of killed/knocked out (Silent Assasin rating), then funny/creative way of achieving objectives (clown, priest, etc), and, finally, replaying the mission like a Rambo to get your revenge against the guards/civilians/targets
If you skip the whole stealth and creative type of gameplay, the Rambo-like gameplay is just plain boring :s
People who just get into the missions and kill everyone until getting shot or getting away miss the whole point of this series, they miss they joy of "I took out my targets, nobody saw me, nobody realized what happened before I left...even though dozens maybe hundreds of potential whitnesses were there as well." It takes about an hour to explore a level, then find the perfect and most elegant way to solve them and finally start over and do it in 5 or 10 minutes.
I'm sorry. I thought Batesman's voice was good an all, but he didn't make the game. Its the unique gameplay. As long as someone with a decent voice plays 47, I could care less. Its the gameplay that I will always be the most concerned about. Get over Batesman people. He's not the only person that can voice 47.

If anyone doesn't understand:
The dead woman is Diana Burnwood, she is killed by 47 in their exchange (which takes place just after the previous trailer).
The other girl, an orphan, is a new character. She is the objective of both 47 and the intruding armed gang in this scene.
This is titled "A Personal Contract" because 47 is doing this for Diana, as her dying wish.
If you think this sounds fucking dumb so far, you're right.

I think it's great he killed Diana. You can't really say that you've lived the life of a killer to the fullest until you kill your boss. And you know what would be great about the voice actor part? If 47 didn't speak in this game. If I'm not missing something, I don't think we ever heard his voice in any of the trailers, or even the "Run for your life".

I don't care if I get bitched at for this. Killing Diana? Really? She was more or less the fucking voice of the series. You hear her more than 47 himself (As it should be). And he killed her even though she saved his ass? Sure, he probably didn't know that, or didn't care, but I still have the right to be pissed about it. I get that they are trying to take it in a new direction, but so far, I'm not holding my breath. And sheesh, at the very least they could have saved this as a surprise twist.

Oh, and there will be plenty bitching when the game comes out. :) But in all honesty, the gameplay looks good based on the latest info released. The story is what I'm worried about.

True assassins are professionals that kill people for a profit, because killing is their business, not some make myself feel like I'm the shit or any Hollywood bullshit. @tiamod Well your comparison is off, a murderer is a very wide scope, an assassin has only one clear cut motif, were as a murderer varies widely. But I can't believe you think he never would kill her, I thought of the plot line in SA. Ask your self this, why wouldn't he kill her. Remember to put your self in his shoes on this. She knows more about him then anyone else on the planet and makes it quite apparent through out the series that she can find him.

@tzero47 she injected the hibernation serum to make it look like 47 died then gave to him the antidote during his funeral in blood money to save him. it was the only way to get him out alive, but looks to me like he killed her anyways, :( sigh

As much as people want Bateson, and I am one of them, this game will still be amazing without him. Don't judge an entire game by it's THIRD trailer. Trailers are created to spark excitement, they don't always reflect the gameplay in the final product. Wait till 2012 to enjoy 47's glorious return!

Are you serious ? The annotations say 47 kills Diana, I mean are you SERIOUS ? I know 47's not the most forgiving guy on earth, but come on... The woman saved him by faking his death, risking her own life, when she could have just killed him. Feelings or not, you've gotta be dumb to want to kill her, in his position. If he really does kill her in the game, I'll be disappointed even if it's a good Hitman.

@chriswere9 While I'm sure the game will be fun this does stick of Hitman conviction. A big budget remake that is nothing that the fans of the series would have wanted. The change in composer, voice actors, etc all demonstrate a readiness to throw away the series hallmarks. I've never played a Hitman game but I'd be very surprised if this is a gameplay successor to Blood Money.

My latest satisfying game was in Blood Money (Opera), as I put a toolbox (with a bomb inside) in front of the private balcony's door, replaced the WW1 pistol in the changing room, then sat down like an innocent spectator.
A second after the actor got shot, I quietly triggered the bomb and watched the grand final: my target flew from the balcony, over the spectators, and landed on the scene, next to his compadre.
Then, I calmly stood up and slowly walked away, by the front door. Feelsgoodman.

I hope the whole "w00t I shot 3v3ryon3 lik3 a n!nj4" drama won't be the main part of the game,
Hitman is about stealth and smallest amount of killed/knocked out (Silent Assasin rating), then funny/creative way of achieving objectives (clown, priest, etc), and, finally, replaying the mission like a Rambo to get your revenge against the guards/civilians/targets
If you skip the whole stealth and creative type of gameplay, the Rambo-like gameplay is just plain boring :s

People who just get into the missions and kill everyone until getting shot or getting away miss the whole point of this series, they miss they joy of "I took out my targets, nobody saw me, nobody realized what happened before I left...even though dozens maybe hundreds of potential whitnesses were there as well." It takes about an hour to explore a level, then find the perfect and most elegant way to solve them and finally start over and do it in 5 or 10 minutes.

That means that it will have more (unnecessary) action sequences and shootings, will be more linear and probably easier...
