When he said on live television he had no involvement in sending armed weapons to Iran and denied US trade between the two (Perhaps forgetting due to his Alzheimer's or just his own stupidity). When he said on live television he had no involvement in sending armed weapons to Iran and denied US trade between the two (Perhaps forgetting due to his Alzheimer's or just his own stupidity). He continued to say tell this lie until his own administration eventually ended up confessing the fact they the US had in fact been trading with Iran in hopes they would release some hostages in return. @jmjfanss I don't buy Ron Paul for only two reasons. One is that he's too ideological, is never willing to compromise, and will only pass a law that he agrees with 100%. That's an awfull quality in a president, one Ron Paul supporters overlook. And two, is that I completley disagree with his economic policies that are crucial at the moment. No, we don't need another Reagan. Reagan put into place the financial and tax structure systems that doom us today. Reagan boosted military spending when we really didn't need. Reagan was good at working with Democrats which helped the economy grow under him. Reagan benefited from the tech boom of the 1980's. Reagan's civil rights agenda was terrible because he tried to reverse civil rights gains for blacks and women. Reagan, the most overrated president ever!

Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich then continued these reforms into the 90s which saw one of the biggest booms in out nations history. You are quite simply full of shit. Reagan's military build up was cited by Gorbachev himself as having put tremendous strain on the already weakened USSR and accelerated their insolvency. The New Deal failed, deal with it.

Reaganomics is good for most, but severly hurts a large minority- the working class. Clintonomics created the true roaring economy- a balance of free trade and progressive policies- that contributed to the largest economic boom in American history. The 80s never came close.

Crime was increasing since the 70s and leveled and started to fall under Reagan. Clinton created nothing, other than a stock market bubble. Do they spend billions of dollars a year to help the vietnamese people suffering from illness due to their use of chemical weapons during the vietnam war? In case you aren't aware the major swing producer that keeps oil prices low, in exchange for American Milirtary involvelent to CONTAIN Iran (a State which the Al Saud Monarchy hates, and is afraid of) is Saudi Arabia. As long as your idiotic population isn't willing to seriously consider energy alternatives; you WILL have to maintain your bases to keep the market secure.

@jmintube While you call it "imperialism", the American bases are there at the request of the Saudi Government. If America pulled out; what you would have is an escalating security dilemma between Iran and Saudi Arabia; the price of oil would skyrocket; your economy would be devestated; and the Middle Eastern region would be that much unsafer. This are the lingering effects of the fall of the Shah, for which Carter is hugely responsible.

@jmintube America acts in its national self-interest; and that involves the use of co-ercive diplomacy. Just like any other powerful state throughout the course of history; including the former Soviet Union. American hegemony is driven by selfish motives, but it can be useful.
As for energy alternatives; half your population don't even beleive in global warming. The other half would rather invest all their energy questioning Obama's nationality. He's a fine president; unlike Jimmy Carter.
