OMG, I never KNEW that this song's original sounds BETTER than all the other covers!! And never KNEW that this song was allready a hit from 1967. I guess all the best comes from the PAST and thank God for that!
I like a lot this song and this group. The gorgeous and cool sixties!! Do you know "The imperial surfers"? It is a spanish group ( I am from Barcelona), they don't make exactly soul , they are more instrumental and aimed to the dancefloor, they are very good. Long life to the supremes, also!! Saludos

@streamskat "You Keep Me Hangin' On" is a 1966 song originally recorded by The Supremes for the Motown label. The song became the group's eighth number-one single when it topped the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart for two weeks in the United States from Nov 13, 1966-Nov 27, 1966. It has since been covered by numerous (Wilson Pickett, Rod Stewart, the cast of Glee, Vanilla Fudge, 1980s pop singer Kim Wilde, and 1990s country singer Reba McEntire.
@eddiemurphyfan100 Hey man, I wrote something very wrong in the last message. I read this post wrong. I was defending you against you..heh.
Anyway, hearing a girl do it is much easier to listen to for me, than a man sing about the same thing, even though the man would technically actually be singing about a girl, the lyrics were intended to describe a man in a certain way, and hearing a woman described that way i.e. "she's handsome" tips this over to The Supremes. Not too bad pop-psych either.
@pupkrazee I was not aware of that!! I'll bet that was one hell of a show! The Mighty Led Zeppelin and Vanilla Fudge on the same stage. Vanilla Fudge's version of "You Keep Me Hanging On" Kicks Serious Ass!!!
@giamozz Don't forget Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Even Jimi Hendrix. These groups were influences for future Rock bands to follw, along with Deep Purple, Grand Funk and Iron Butterfly.
The music of Vanilla Fudge takes me back to my Haight-Ashbury days in San Francisco in 1967 and 1968. I use to listen to a underground radio station in the area that played Vanilla Fudge. They weren't played on regular radio yet. As I listened on my radio as I walked down the street, straight people looked at me as though I was crazy.
I love this band and their style of music which they played. I still groove on them today at 62 years old.
@pbandjoey You got that right. Although I do like the Supremes version, Vanilla Fudge does a way better version. I can't stand Kim Wilde's version. I made a comment on one of her videos and someone replied to me, "Bug off!!!" Like, whatever. I'd rather make comments on good videos cause at least I wont have some smartass make a diragatory comment. Anyway, Peace!!!
I play this song for the memory of three young girls that became best friends then soul sisters forevermore. Back in 1968, we formed a small band and this was our very first song that we learned to play. Today, in 2010, we are still three best friends and hopeully we will continue to best friends into our next life. We love each other that much. Hail to Vanilla Fudge and the bond we created in learning this song together. Peacenluv4evr......
i was 13 when this came out! it was awesome. we had the Best music in the 60's and 70's, man I wish i could go back, and for the person who "hates" this band, well yes opinions are like buttholes, everybody's got one. open your mind, get out of the box.
On Wikipedia it was written Vanilla Fudge recorded this song in ONE take..... hmmm... I wonder??? Love the song, love the Supremes version and this is a great alternative with a totally different feel and perspective.
I was there. I hated this cover band. After seeing them the third time by accident as openers for other bands, I bought a used copy of their album and nailed it to the wall with a note saying "You hate this band."
There was way too much live original music to listen to a cut rate band cover good music.
You know, Mazzy, opinions are like rectums - everybody's entitled to one. I saw them 3 times and each time was more electric than the one before. As a bassist, I have to say that Bogert was one of the best - THE best - I have ever seen perform. Maybe your stash was bad...
I knew I wanted to Rock the first time I heard this tune. I was rollin' on the floor with some chic and this song came on.
I''ve been singing this tune ever since. I remember one night in Iraq we we're posting Guard duty and we we're thinking about some tunes and this song came up and back too me. Freaking awesome..
Yeah...hearing this song again gives me chill too ...I can picture them playing it live when I first saw them in Santa Barbara... they were awesome..the song and dynamic group are magical...You would know what I mean if you saw them perform live..the Fudge Rocks!
