  • what a classic track there...was surprised 2 know they r the only american band 2 bcum one of the fore founders of metal during the british invasion in creating the metal scene

  • 01.01.12

  • OMG, I never KNEW that this song's original sounds BETTER than all the other covers!! And never KNEW that this song was allready a hit from 1967. I guess all the best comes from the PAST and thank God for that!

  • That is some good stuff back in the day.

  • They sound loaded, where's the studio version?

  • In this link (youtube.com/watch?v=YzSp8l2mxhk - Time: 2:45 to 3:36), who's singing that version? Thank you and greetings from Brazil.

  • I like a lot this song and this group. The gorgeous and cool sixties!! Do you know "The imperial surfers"? It is a spanish group ( I am from Barcelona), they don't make exactly soul , they are more instrumental and aimed to the dancefloor, they are very good. Long life to the supremes, also!! Saludos

  • I saw these guys 2 nights ago in Natick, MA. They still deliver great performances. It was an amazing show.

  • I did shows in Koza BC street Okinawa to this. The guys loved it.

  • Great song, I like this version the best, wish it would get more airplay on the radio

  • Vanilla fudge can take any song, and make it a psychedelic feast for the soul.

  • even though i'm black, and i'm a big fan of The Supremes, I admit this version is better

  • Damn straight song! 1967 was a VERY good year.

  • Okay okay okay, y'all!! I stand corrected. LOL @TheCoverHeaven I do know something about music (I have a degree), but this is admittedly not my genre.....

  • i love this version best

  • I wanna turn on a black light now and stare at the ceiling.

  • @nholt Been there - done that, and done that, and done that, and...

  • the original was from the supremes.

  • @streamskat lol. Ok you don't know anything about music but c'mon just google it or visit wikipedia.

  • You Keep Me Hangin' On --kim wilde is better

  • @newtowndj2010 Hell No!!! This version is WAY better than Kim Wilde!!!

  • Vanilla Fudge Rocked...The good ole days that our youth today will never Appreciate, in fact all the hip hop nursery rhyme crap Rap they play today...Does Not Even Compare.

  • Saw Grand Funk Railroad 6 times, absolutely the Greatest American Band of all time.

  • The first song of its kind - a really new version. They made more slow down versions. And the bass and drummer was the best for years

  • a remix?...a cover....

  • I like this version!

  • great cover!

  • @TheCoverHeaven um, this is the original..

  • @streamskat "You Keep Me Hangin' On" is a 1966 song originally recorded by The Supremes for the Motown label. The song became the group's eighth number-one single when it topped the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart for two weeks in the United States from Nov 13, 1966-Nov 27, 1966. It has since been covered by numerous (Wilson Pickett, Rod Stewart, the cast of Glee, Vanilla Fudge, 1980s pop singer Kim Wilde, and 1990s country singer Reba McEntire.

  • @streamskat, the original was from Diana Ross & The Supremes. this is a cover

  • @eddiemurphyfan100 Hey man, I wrote something very wrong in the last message. I read this post wrong. I was defending you against you..heh.

Anyway, hearing a girl do it is much easier to listen to for me, than a man sing about the same thing, even though the man would technically actually be singing about a girl, the lyrics were intended to describe a man in a certain way, and hearing a woman described that way i.e. "she's handsome" tips this over to The Supremes. Not too bad pop-psych either.

  • Phil Leotardo getting whacked!

  • Aw, Kryst! Take me back to the summer of '67!

  • that tune ... so beautiful *

  • epic song

  • Comment removed

  • Remember when Led Zeppelin opened for these guys. Both amazing.

  • @pupkrazee I was not aware of that!! I'll bet that was one hell of a show! The Mighty Led Zeppelin and Vanilla Fudge on the same stage. Vanilla Fudge's version of "You Keep Me Hanging On" Kicks Serious Ass!!!

  • @1962drob Man..you are so right!

  • @giamozz Don't forget Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Even Jimi Hendrix. These groups were influences for future Rock bands to follw, along with Deep Purple, Grand Funk and Iron Butterfly.

  • Make it 6 w/no taste.

  • one wild song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 5 people have no taste.

  • @pbandjoey I take that back. Some smartass did make a diragatory comment on BTO'S "Roll on down the Highway". Did not think that was cool.

  • @pbandjoey You got that right. Although I do like the Supremes version, Vanilla Fudge does a way better version. I can't stand Kim Wilde's version. I made a comment on one of her videos and someone replied to me, "Bug off!!!" Like, whatever. I'd rather make comments on good videos cause at least I wont have some smartass make a diragatory comment. Anyway, Peace!!!

  • That's what I'm talking about. This is the "kick-ass" version of this song. Better than the Supremes and way better than Kim Wilde.

  • You gotta listen to Season of the witch this weekend. The best.

  • brilliant

  • fantastic number covered by vanilla fudge but can say the supremes number also is great to hear

  • This Cover Kills the Supremes Original by 100%

  • wow

  • The Soprano's even put the Vanilla Fudge's music on their shows on the last season. They got great taste!

  • The Soprano's even put the Vanilla Fudge's music on their shows on the last season. They got great taste!

  • These guys were awsome w/their music. They should of had more recognition then they did!

  • I play this song for the memory of three young girls that became best friends then soul sisters forevermore. Back in 1968, we formed a small band and this was our very first song that we learned to play. Today, in 2010, we are still three best friends and hopeully we will continue to best friends into our next life. We love each other that much. Hail to Vanilla Fudge and the bond we created in learning this song together. Peacenluv4evr......

  • Listen "Chi mi aiuterà" with Demetrio Stratos too :)

  • The Supremes did do it first, Vanilla fudge just put in some passion and rocked it up .

  • This song kicks some serious ass!!

  • And to think just the radio cut? Not the "Underground Radio" seven-minute fest! These upstate NY dudes have always been just too cool!

  • Loved seeing them at THE ACTION HOUSE... Long Island, NY late 60's

Hung out with Carmine a lot. Man can he eat pizza! LOL

  • 1:49... nuff said.

  • It's not the original.

Diana Ross recorded the original when she was with The Supremes.

  • phill leotardos whacking... [sopranos]

  • @unfriendlyalberta AND YOUR WHACKIN MY SLONGER

  • More cool tnan original! The best cover in the World! In My Opinion.

  • Comment removed

  • I turned on to this right after it's release at 13. What a trippy rendition of some ol' Motown jams [The Supremes], no?

    Tre, tre cool!

    Thx, theoRocksss!

  • to Myrtle get out of my life why don't you Babe, you just keep me hanging on, too many lonely years.

  • The BEST version, thanks for posting!

  • wish I could bring all these bands in their prime into the hip hop generation of 2000-2010.

  • @bruces3 Yeah, cool!

  • i was 13 when this came out! it was awesome. we had the Best music in the 60's and 70's, man I wish i could go back, and for the person who "hates" this band, well yes opinions are like buttholes, everybody's got one. open your mind, get out of the box.

  • What a powerful song! This song rocks! I have the album on vinyl and it sounds great!

  • See..white people do have soul.

  • when we plated this song everybody stoped and stared @ the stage as if they all soakin in every note i kick ass song!!!!!!!!!!!

  • On Wikipedia it was written Vanilla Fudge recorded this song in ONE take..... hmmm... I wonder??? Love the song, love the Supremes version and this is a great alternative with a totally different feel and perspective.

  • Dan

  • My sister had this album in the day and I remember playing this song all the time. I think it's much better than the original.

  • You should have been there.

  • @puhiawa

I was there. I hated this cover band. After seeing them the third time by accident as openers for other bands, I bought a used copy of their album and nailed it to the wall with a note saying "You hate this band."

There was way too much live original music to listen to a cut rate band cover good music.

  • @Mazzystar1212

You know, Mazzy, opinions are like rectums - everybody's entitled to one. I saw them 3 times and each time was more electric than the one before. As a bassist, I have to say that Bogert was one of the best - THE best - I have ever seen perform. Maybe your stash was bad...

  • Love-love-love this! Best cover EVER!!!

  • yo yo i k ben de geene die zegt goeooeoeoeeoeod!!

  • ik ben dol op een ? d s i

  • keep keep keep haert heb ik gekozen

  • GSF216 is kanker hoer.. zij is een strond

  • wonder why i woke up this morning with this song in my head...

  • I knew I wanted to Rock the first time I heard this tune. I was rollin' on the floor with some chic and this song came on.

I''ve been singing this tune ever since. I remember one night in Iraq we we're posting Guard duty and we we're thinking about some tunes and this song came up and back too me. Freaking awesome..

  • The full version of this song still blows me away every time I hear it. Pure genius.

  • where can i find the this full version? PRETTYPLEASE...

  • Someone needs to make a modern version of this song. Like a modern rock song, ill play guitar =)

  • @InfektionFoxtrot ill play the b3

  • The long version is epic.

  • This song changed the course of rock and roll

  • @Delken-I am so pleased that people today are beginning to appreciate the wonderful music of the '60s and '70s.

Too many songs today are just manufactured, they sound almost all the same and how many will be remembered 20+ years later?

Classic music will never go out of style! I'm so glad you appreciate what we so enjoyed way back when.

  • @Delken Especially now with all the crap this is on the radio. :/ This is freaking awesome!

  • @Delken

you should hear their rendition of Elenor Rigby

  • @Delken at least you still get to listen... if you died in 1949 then you really would have missed it.

  • @Delken haha just in time for the 80s hard luck

  • Definitely a Rock anthem for the times and is an immortal classic. Great harmony. Peace.

  • it was ginger baker that did the first double bass drum stomping-- i think

  • Yeah...hearing this song again gives me chill too ...I can picture them playing it live when I first saw them in Santa Barbara... they were awesome..the song and dynamic group are magical...You would know what I mean if you saw them perform live..the Fudge Rocks!

  • Al hanisim

    ve'al hapurkan

    ve'al hagevurot

    ve'al hateshu'ot

    ve'al hamilchamot, she'a

    sita lavotenu

    zeh.

  • This song and the FUDGE ROCK wow what memories this song brings back 2 me thanks where did life go wow

  • @delta9779 My thoughts exactly! I used

to play this on my homemade drums,

    WHERE DIDTHE TIME GO?

  • yea, me too, I was in the 8th grade when this came out, my older brother had the album with the naked woman on the cover, remember?

  • yes I do remember greta times and great memories where did life go wow

  • Written by Dozier and Holland & Holland. Supremes hit before Vanilla Fudge. Both excellent!

  • is this the original or the supremes-version??

  • @robiinn333 The Supremes version

  • this song gives me chills every time i listen to it

  • this is such a good song

  • Vanilla Fudge were innovators. They created something even when they were revisiting other artists material. Compare this to the original version by The Supremes and you'll hear how they milk and added another dimension of urgency.

  • oh man - is this close to the very beginning or what? - Love it - going to do it next year in a rock band I'm forming - can't wait

  • This band opened up a whole new can of worms back in the 60's .......deep purple, grand funk, iron butterfly, followed successfully !!!!!!!

  • @giamozz Those were some tasty "worms"!

  • amazing!

  • great cover version of Diana Ross's classic song!!!

  • You know, I always thought this was Grand Funk. Damn radio stations never announcing artists..

  • Junius? Is that you?

  • loved how they used this song in Made In America

  • totally awesome when a remix is better than the original!

  • Remix?

  • yes, of the Supremes original hit

  • why is this in a different key than the version i have? from the self titled remastered?

  • oh i think this is a record recording being played too quickly. the actual song is in a lower key

  • I prefer this one to the Supremes one too. *grins* I like the heavy funk sound way more.

  • this song hit the nail on the head for my life

  • absolut song for a sucky situation (:5/5 & sometimes there ain't nothin' you can do about it, either.. thing is, the hypocrites seem to pull it off at the worst time, possible.. funny how this popped into my mind after so many years>> grrreat song!!

  • As a street musician looking 4 songs' this is the version I'm gonna work with' and I'll see where I can take it from there.

  • let us know what the result will be :)

  • The flipside to the original Supremes version, just as good in its approach and so, so heavy.

  • YOWZAH!

"There ain't nothing I can do about it..."

  • did he just ask "who's the original by"??

did the other one just say this is better than the original??

    wow.

  • Great memories...one of the first songs I learned to play on the drums!

  • i just watched the final sopranos episode, tony was blasting it in one scene,a little while later as phil leotardo was getting wacked you could hear it again.

  • This is one of the few times that a cover of a classic is actually better than the original

  • Who is the original by?

  • The supremes

  • @pbandjoey THAT IS THE ORINGINAL

  • pbandjoeY THAT IS THE ORIGINAL

  • @pbandjoey quite true!

  • one of my favorite songs from the sixties. such raw emotion

  • here you can see (listen) that the original is the best... thanks

  • hehe, not really original. this is cover of the supremes' hit from '66th. but it is the best cover if u ask me ;)

  • yeah you right.. it´s cover I didn´t know that I thought that this is original...but this is the best :)))

  • I bought this "album" as a birthday gift for my older brother.....when the album was a new release.

Whew that was a long time ago!

  • thanks for putting this up at least you can hear the music clearly

  • enjoy!
