as for the video/interview, i think in all cases, if you could go for an interview they would appreciate it more. I couldnt do that because i was in the middle of my exams when i made the video.
Primarily, my presentation was all one thing. Pencil on paper, they had asked for several mediums, i only gave them one. Also, i had a rigorous exam schedule so i had to do this while i prepared for exams, and couldn't give it as much effort as i should have. More than once i stutter or repeat myself, should've worked on it.
I'm not sure what other's submitted but a main point must have been that the submitted something with at least some color!
no problem man i was an IB student, the predicted grades submitted to them were a total of 37/42. I took no art courses, my courses were mostly in the sciences and math.
I actually think that they care more about the art and creativity rather than the grades.
@keemo7792 thanks for replying man, this really helps me out! I personally thought your presentation was impressively artistic and creative as well which is why I don't understand how you didn't make it. If they really do care more about the art and creativity, do you know what those who were accepted, submitted in their portfolios? I know that they prefer actual interviews over videos, but I plan to make a video too, but I don't know how big of difference attending a person interview makes.
thanks a lot for sharing your experience man, I want to get into the architecture program but I'm seriously doubting if my marks will even get me past stage 1. If its not too much to ask, can you tell me what your marks were that you submitted?
@keemo7792 ya, but it took me three tries to get in, and, if I may, I am an extremely good artist (I'm not being delusional, I actually claimed all of my high school art awards). When I finally got in last year, it was based on a portfolio with some crappy drawings I whipped up in less than a week. Whatever, did you apply again this year?
I'm in the middle of the application right now for next year. did you get into the program or are you trying again? I really like the first drawing. I thought you commentary could use a bit more flow... you repeated a lot of words (symmetry and cultural especially) that I don't think really added to the pieces or represented ideas that you didn't develop in your explanation.
@ender178 I got in on grades, the problem with this program is that the students who apply have a more artistic base (I.e they take some sort of highschool art course). My highschool courses were much heavier on the science side (HL Phys, Chem etc.), so i never had enough art practice.
They expect your drawings to be over a range of mediums and they expect them to be very good, so take your time with them.
My letter said that i'd been rejected because of the art, not the grades.
What kind of grades did you have? I took a lot of different art courses, I'm just worried about the first cut.

You don't need good art to get into this school! You don't even do any art once you get in! Your original ideas are what count
sciencepower1 10 months ago
@sciencepower1 well they have two stages, one where you submit your grades, and based on your grades you may or may not pass into stage two.
Stage two involves you submitting a portfolio and a video
so i got to stage two, and wasnt accepted, meaning that it was my portfolio (art) that hindered me.
