Ian Mackaye & some friends wanted to get in to see a band (just by chance their interest was punk) anyway they were too young to get into the bar so they told the staff they'd put X's on their hands so they'd know they were too young to get served booze so the bar wouldn't get itself in trouble. Only by chance was it a punk band for them.

i dont know how people can bring themselves to be straight edge, i'll never understand it. most of my pastimes involve some sort of drug, be it going for a few drinks with my mates or blazing a couple of spliffs or whatever else. they miss out on so much fun.
Look, sXe isnt for everyone. If you're edge, let's be sure to focus on the fact this this is a personal choice, let's not force it on anyone. @quib5 No, there's a lot of fools who will tell you you have to be into punk/hardcore etc. to be edge, but it's only by chance it came up in punk/hc. Ian Mackaye & some friends wanted to get in to see a band (just by chance their interest was punk) anyway they were too young to get into the bar so they told the staff they'd put X's on their hands so they'd know they were too young to get served booze so the bar wouldn't get itself in trouble. Only by chance was it a punk band for them.

Look, sXe isnt for everyone. If you're edge, let's be sure to focus on the fact this this is a personal choice, let's not force it on anyone. Let people insult us, why should it bother us? we know its right for us and that should be enough. Fighting and arguing get's us nowhere, live drug free and positive and by doing so you will lead by example. I've been edge for over 10 years and im damn proud, i've educated many just by being myslef and being positive about it.

I agree, GM, alcohol and drugs are not natural, but sex is... I mean, how do you think we even exist today without it? Yes, some people do it just for fun, but it's nature, and you can't deprive yourself from it forever, and even if you did, you'd get made fun of even more for being a virgin than being straight edge. That being said, I think not doing drugs and drinking alcohol is good for you in general, but they shouldn't have a name for it. They should just be themselves, and not an image.

How does the sxe "movement" still have any credibility (if, indeed, it does) given that most people who claim it end up breaking edge. Every straight edger talks about the "true 'til 21" phenomenon. There used to be a huge internet list of people (including most of the members of 90's edge bands) who broke edge. How relevant can straight edge be when edgers over the age of 25 seemingly don't exist?
