The joker scene represents character of the Errand Boy. He tries to interact with the strangers and help them(offering candy). He's happy doing that and goes to a dreamless sleep everyday!
@Hadeydeppio I believe it's there to illustrate the character. You never really get to know his personality (Apart from the milk and sandwich scenes); that he is a cheerful, imaginative and very empathetic character in contrast to pretty much everyone else in the movie (Who's either completely stressed or detached from reality).
I actually believe that these scenes are very important vor the rythm of the movie, because they make you attached to the protagonist while everyone else hates him.
the scene with the puppets was adorable. But I don't think he himself did the hand puppet. But then again, I could be wrong!!

I believe that it was Jerry who did the little clown puppet. Vague memory...I could be wrong.

@rocknrollguitarman I may be wrong, but I think it's called, "That's My Way!" It's written by Louis Y. Brown, Jerry Lewis, and Bill Richmond.

I guess the main point of Serina is that she is totally self-absorbed.
