Political correctness has not gone too far, you have gone too far policing yourself. and you can use the word nigger if you are white, you just have to ask, do you really want to?
@plaidvitc Agreed, men may not be the most oppressed group, but they are certainly the most ignored oppressed group. Family laws, popular culture, military conscription, conviction rates, sexual assault are all issues that affect men badly, and isn't getting enough media attention
@spuddy83 don't be ridiculous. just because he disagrees with the guy in the video does not make him a racist or a sexist. Not until he actually says something racist or sexist. Don't get me wrong, I agree with Stewart Lee, but you are a retard
@EIN771 I may be a retard in your eyes but at least I can finish a sentence with a full stop. You are not seeing this vision of Stewart Lee are you.
Every person I have ever met who says, its PC gone mad or your a PC crybaby, are racist. They just close it up in thinly disguised language so they can survive in a world were toleration of other cultures is accepted.
@spuddy83 I may not be able to finish a sentence with a full stop in your eyes but at least I would never type 'its' instead of 'it's' or 'were' instead of 'where'. Good work there, retard.
So you would assume that anyone who ever said 'pc has gone mad' are actually racists? So you are stereotyping and discriminating based on little evidence? And then you go on about tolerance?
I suggest you stop making youtube even more stupid than it is already.
@EIN771 I'll have a typo over an ignorance of grammatical error taught in primary school anyday. Evidence? Well that is life experience, I'm not a social scientist but I can safely say that 100% of people I know are. I was not offering fact, but opinion. And considering your love of Clarkson books I'm sure you like a little giggle at ethnic minorities yourself.
You dont understand Stewart Lee at all, do you? Jog on before you dribble more lard out of that shit box you call a mouth.
@spuddy83 I think you are presuming a little to much, when you say that you and Stewart Lee are saying the same thing.
Stewart Lee was arguing that political correctness gone mad isn't true, and he is correct. You are saying that anyone who says political correctness has gone mad is a racist. That is such a stupid opinion, I'm surprised you had the gall to even say it
Political correctness has not gone mad. You are a politically correct person gone mad. Anyone who disagrees with you = racist
@spuddy83 Oh and I can always tell that I've won when someone starts criticising my Clarkson books (proudly displayed on the shelf) and my interest in Aviation. Even a five year old could click onto my profile, searching for ammunition to use against me. That does not indicate that you have wit really.
I have never laughed at ethnic minorities in my life either, since you brought it up.
I suggest you stop being a PC crybaby, you are giving the racists something to use against us.
@EIN771 I always know I have won when someones only argument against me is calling me a retard then claim to be high and moral. Do you always mock the mentally handicapped? What is your definition of PC?
I'm not ad-hocing the argument, your love of clarkson is relative to the argument. Clarkson is the kind of person Stewart is talking about. When he discusses how people hide their racism behind cleverly disguised language. And you started the insults, check your 1st reply. Derp!
@spuddy83 My only argument against you was calling you a retard? Try reading the words again. And unless you are mentally handicapped I have never mocked anyone with a disability (I have one myself).
Besides, Id be the first to say that I am not high n mighty, just reasonable. And would not assume someone was a racist because they read Clarkson books or think PC has gone mad. But as far as you care, having a different opinion to Stewart is a bad thing. Are you slow, insecure or unreasonable?
@EIN771 Insecure? Well I was not the one waiding into other peoples conversation. And to be fair my comment to the I hate PC guy was a bit tongue in cheek, but your insecurity in yourself let you fire away. Kind of like someone mighty? You are proving me right. I have worked with mentally disabled people and I do find your choice of terminology quite offensive, try saying that to the members of Camphill Mourne Grange. (Google it) and try telling them that you are not discriminating.
@spuddy83 Hardly wading into other people's conversations on a public forum, now is it? Are you mentally challenged? If not, then I do not feel any bit guilty for calling you retarded. You have no real argument, that much is clear.
You repeatedly look for personality flaws to refute my claims that your opinion is fucked up. You even try to imply I am insecure, because you have no original argument. If you don't like being called retarded, go and imagine up some insults and say they are from me
@EIN771 My god those are alot of words. My brain cannot compute Arrggh! Seems I have angered you Clarky. My job here is done. Enjoy sitting in your rage ball, spitting your feathers. Thanks for making my day.
@spuddy83 six essay length comments, and only now you 'anger me'. You must be pretty crap at your job if that's the case. Don't worry though, I won't let on to anyone that you are a little bitch and have lost a youtube argument. I shall take this as you giving up.
Seriously though, don't try and play it off as if you were just having a good old time. Because if that was true, then what have you achieved? I've simply developed more confident in my rationality. That's a horrible thing to do!
@EIN771 Ohh that old chestnut. I'm not discriminating because I have one. Like when people get caught out saying N****r then say I am not racist I have black friends.
@spuddy83 I have not discriminated against anyone, fuckwit. You are seriously not interested in defending the good character of disabled people, of which I am one, not that is relevant of course, but are yourself unable to actually form any sort of argument, and then attempt to hold some sort of moral high ground. That is the only way you can manage it seems. You attempted to imply I was racist, I was insecure, that I had bad spelling, and that I was childish (because I like aviation). Failure.
Yeah, things are crazy now, you can't make it up! I remember a time when I could shove faeces on the face of a crippled, blind paki without the damn politically correct brigade jumping down your throat. Now singing hymns is not allowed because it might offend the muslamic infidels who are trying to shove Iraqi law down all our throats. Fuck, they're already stockpiling Muslamic Ray guns to use against us!
@Pastor9764 It's so sad to see. I think the problem is that people have a hard time, in these discussions, to make a difference between arguing to forbid people to say certain words as opposed to taking responsibility for the meaning of certain words.
By all means, continue to use whatever words you want, but if you are to use a word that is derogatory and has direct negative connotations for some people. Own up to it and acknowledge that instead of saying, "you're just being pc."
@BanHan seventies and eighties. All the kids from different ethnic backgrounds mixed and it wasn't a big deal. I have never heard of teachers using revolting racial insults and bad feeling is growing because of polictical correctness. The grass is always greener and when resourses become scarce people always think other people are getting a bigger slice of the pie. Because of P.C, some communities feelings are considered or percieved to be more valid than theirs.Racial Civil unrest is coming.
They've been saying "your not allowed to say blackboard anymore" and "they're changing the song baa baa black sheep" for a good 15 years, since I was in school, but my brothers teachers do all these things no problem.
I don't really understand why people think political correctness has gone mad. Probably because you aren't allowed to throw a toaster in the bath anymore. In case it upsets the queers.
I don't mind political correctness. Social ostracism is the answer to solving the problem of bigotry. However political correctness cannot be enforced through the government as it interferes with freedom of speech. I will always disagree with idiot racists but I will defend their right to speak their mind as they are not committing a violent action.
@DoctorCapitalist I'm sorry, I get your point of "I defend your right to say whatever you want", but I see no reason to allow people to be mindlessly racist in a western country like the UK. Free speech is essential but allowing people to spout racist rubbish is not acceptable and shouldn't be allowed or tolerated. This is the problem; racists will continue to spew racist bullshit to their children and have more in the next generation of people.
Please can someone dig out the unedited clip? Its a great rant in the context of a lighthearted comedy panel show and its also interesting to hear how the others react.
Especially as I think Harry Enfield may have made a vaguely anti-PC comment just before.
I also love Baddiel's awkward "oh dear" which you can hear on this clip
@guyjohn59 What point has he missed? He has a much more rational perspective on the issue of Political Correctness than anyone I've ever seen or heard. And yes he is a comedian, but he doesn't need to constantly live by his occupation and use it when he's making a serious point like he is here, much like a singer doesn't connect every sentence he says with rhymes. I would suggest you look at his actual work in comedy, rather than judging his ability on this piece of audio.
if it is the institutionalised politeness as he calls it (I.e. suppressing freedom of speech), why is it that attitudes in the USA have changed to the point where they have a black president? there freedom of speech is protected under the 1st amendment, and that includes the right to make moronic racist statements. his Lee's argument is based on the false premise that it is laws prohibiting freedom of speech that changed attitudes...
@g2thaz theres no law against using racial slurs, otherwise lee wouldv'e been arrested, its just that now its no longer seen as widely socially acceptable to be unashamedly racist.
"Has political correctness gone too far?" is a meaninglessly vague question.
What most of the audience were saying "yes" to is (probably) that political correctness is sometimes applied overzealously by self-righteous self-appointed liberal fascists.
I doubt very much if the audience have a deep frustrated desire to start calling black people "niggers" again.
Then again, I'm white and I don't read the Grauniad, so I guess I must be a racist imperialist bigot. Sorry about that.
Lets get one thing clear: western culture is far superior to any other culture in existence. The world had it never so good all due to developments done or made by western culture. If all cultures are equal than Cannibalism is a matter of taste.
The Jewish/Christian culture is the big winner in this world.
@Tralgit Yes Islam is backward and against progress. But so is Christianity, Judiasm or any other mumbo jumbo that has ever polluted the minds of people and blocked rational thought by believing in an imaginary man in the sky.
I don't discriminate, religion is poision but it has nothing to do with race.
@TheSolitaryHeart When moh conquered India, Persia and the Byzantine empire muslims couldn't read or write, they copied their alphabet from the Hindu's, copied, stole or forced over all knowledge from the conquered countries/empires and claimed it theirs. There are a few vid on that subject in my favorites. When this died out there was nothing just like today. There is not one muslim, educated in a muslim country, that got a Nobel prize for science/medicine. Jews have over 120.
@Tralgit You must be a hard learner! the Arabic and Hebrew alphabet have a common origin with the Hindi, Latin and Greek alphabet that originates from THE PHOENICIAN one , which ultimately evolved from the Cuniform alpabet that was used in Mesopotamia- Modern day Iraq.
@TheSolitaryHeart No, I am tired of argumenting with assholes who don't know history, like I said; islam ony produces; hate, death , destruction and stupidity, you have the brains for it, join them. Than do the world a favor: blow yourself up in a septic tank, at least you are of some good to the world. Goodbye wanker.
@Tralgit "Western Culture" has it's origins in the Middle East. Our writing system- We write in the Latin alphabet that the Romans used, the Romans adopted the Latin alphabet from the Greek one, they in turn adopted theirs from the Phoenicians who lived in modern day Lebanon. The Arabic and Hebrew alphabets also originated from the Phoenician script via another branch. Even the Devanagari used in the Indian languages have their origins here. Point: East and West we have a common origin.
@TheSolitaryHeart Nice try pal, but muslims got theirs from the Hindu's, not from any other culture. Muslims couldn't read or write when they conquered the most important civilisations in that part of the world. When their victims died out and there was no follow up the who thing died like it is today. Muslim countries produce nothing of any value for the world, their uni's aren't even in the top 500. Their education is reciting the Koran and absorbing hate for everything non muslim.
@Tralgit Lets get this straight, somebody like you would never be my "pal". It's not a "nice try" as I presented you with facts. The shit you have just typed has nothing on the facts I presented. Muslims couldn't read or write? Says who? You? I'd take the word of a historian over yours who says otherwise. I'm not even defending Islam, I detest it just like any other religion. You just make statements that are based upon your prejudices- you cannot deny facts.
@Tralgit Got theirs from the Hindus? The Phoenicians weren't even muslim and Hindi along with all the other Indian languages did get it's alphabet from the Phoenician one.
@Tralgit I agree that Islam teaches an appalling set of values like any other religion. Religion itself is toxic. It's just at the moment the most militant religion happens to be Islam. That said, some Christians are no better...Westboro Baptist Church?
@Tralgit And another thing even Christianity the supposed "backbone" of Western Civilization is nothing more than an offshoot of a Jewish cult that by a fluke became the worlds dominant religion.
@itsayellowfig Not sarcasm. The good doesn't change the bad, and the effects of colonialism are still visible today. They wouldn't have had to end slavery if they hadn't started it. By 'we' do you mean the British Empire or Christians? Because the deaths caused by the British Empire far outweigh those caused by so-called 'Islamic' terrorism (so-called Islamic, not so-called terrorism, to clarify). I'm not really qualified to judge what's good or bad, but the basic principles seem good.
Yeah the Gays really messed up the rainbow for me!
When I was child and I saw a rainbow, it was a thing of beauty and there was that slight chance there just might be that pot of gold at the end of it.
But now when I see a Rainbow, All I see is a couple of leprechauns humping each other! It aint right…
This basically means "I, and people like me, are morally superior to everyone who does not agree with me."
Politeness is a disease for the English - only in this timid inferior sad little island could anyone be so afraid of accidentally saying something that might cause offence. Only in this bureacratic, rigid, controled and anal country could institutionalised be thought a virtue.
England only exists now for minorities. I am happy I have left, and will never come back!
@balkanize - you know nothing about me, only that I want to leave England, and disagree with liberals about language. How then can you say I am average. What is better, to stay complain and be miserable or find somewhere better? Or do I have no right to dislike England or move? I now work in Russia teaching English. When I explain to Russians about PC language they say it is not interesting or important - a country that has suffered so much can see England's petty hangups for what they are.
@itsayellowfig Are you saying Islam is not good and peaceful? A few extremists do not make a religion. Nobody judges Christians for the actions of the ku klux klan (they're Christian supremacists too, fyi), or the bombings of abortion clinics. And the British Empire did some horrific things - colonialism, aside from being a horrific idea in general, often included atrocities of rape and murder.
Look, if PC was nothing more than politeness then nobody would be complaining about it, would they? But people are right to complain because PC is a part of a broader neo-Marxist assault on traditional European societies.
Just look at the way he refers to “PC at its worst”, and conveniently neglects to mention academics losing their jobs and folks being put in prison or violently attacked simply for having the “wrong views”. What an ignoramus.
I really don't know how to take Stewart Lee at times, I'm fairly certain that him saying that he wishes Richard Hammond had been decapitated in his accident isn't all that politically correct either. He just makes the rules up as he goes along.
@StraitKnopfler It's not the same thing, though. Political correctness protects minority or oppressed groups. If he was saying Hammond should be decapitated because, I don't know, he was working class, then it would make him a hypocrite. While that routine may be hurtful or cruel to some, it doesn't fall under the definition of political correctness, at least as defined here.
@imtotallyconfused Ok, I see your point. However, in one of his routines he also has a bit about how William Wallace was gay, not in an overtly discriminatory way, but in Lee's usual way of subtly taking the piss, using homosexuality to demean Wallace's 'manly' status. As ever, you can't tell how serious Lee is trying to be, but - serious or not - playing on stereotypes of homosexuality in such a way is hardly ever PC.
Also many people fail to see that a Christian business owner might feel Dishonest to his faith, living one way while practicing the opposite of what he believes, if he were to give in to the pressures to meet the demands of society that goes against their faith.
@charlamain2209 Are you referring to the famed B&B owner? His feeling of dishonesty isn't equivalent to the oppression gay people face, and his feeling of dishonesty and attitude that gay people are not entitled to fall in love, to have sex, to get married, is downright dangerous and backs up and contributes to everything from anti-lgbt bullying, which cn lead to suicide or simply be downright traumatic, and the murders of gay people for daring to show affection in public (a recent case (cont.))
@charlamain2209 (in Britain), or simply because the person found out they were gay or even just them 'looking' gay. Besides, he's inflicting his faith on others. If political correctness or the law required the hypothetical Christian business owner to stop reading the Bible, or banned church, or insisted he put posters in each room declaring Jesus was a liar or a serial killer or a giant bunny wearing a man suit, you might have a point. Rarely does political correctness require (cont.)
@imtotallyconfused Rarely does political correctness require Christians to change anything about themselves, merely to stop forcing their faith on others.
Most of the things claimed to be assaults against Christianity are, in fact, assaults against things that harm other people - ie, standing on street corners declaring that all gay people are destined for hell, which, as I have said, fuels the prejudice against gay people in society, and backs up the opinions and actions of hateful bigots, as well as being an extremely damaging act in itself. Imagine if someone stood on a street corner telling you that something you had fears and doubts (cont.)
about anyway, was something that would cause you to be tortured for all eternity. Even if you didn't believe the person, the fact that someone - an entire movement of someones - thought that about you, coupled with, say, the lack of gay people on television when compared with heterosexual people, and a million other ways that society shows its disdain for gay people, could cause self-hatred, anger, and stress.
The other incidents tend to be safety requirements - removing necklaces, (cont.)
for example, and the people told to do see that those whose religion requires the wearing of a necklace, or a head covering, are allowed to side-step the rule for religious reasons, and think they should too.
Christians are not oppressed in this country. While undoubtedly there may be incidents of people saying cruel things, or work bullying, or sometimes attacks, these can happen to privileged groups, such as white people being attacked for being white. (cont.)
The point is, these incidents are rare, and generally reported and taken seriously when they do occur - look at the coverage the B&B owner got, and the level of support from papers such as the Daily Mail - whereas if, say, a Muslim woman was attacked for wearing a burqa, the incident would likely not make front pages or news headlines.
This may seem like I've been sidetracked, but I'm establishing the position of Christians in this country compared to that of gay people.
Why do I believe this? Because Faith to a large majority of christian business owners is not something they put away after church on sunday. It's part of their whole being and helps them in every decision they make. When Gay rights activist try to impose their views on christian business owners it seems to imply that they'd rather they be greedy and dishonest rather than faithful to their God, all because it doesn't mesh with their conquest. Cnt.
the trouble is that God is a fictional being. Just because someone believes something that was made up a long time ago, is no reason to pander to it or give it credence above real things (Gays are real). Pandering to a group of people who believe in a fairy tale - just out of politeness - would be... well it would be political correctness gone mad.
There a unicorn that tells me to not employ women. This would not stand up as a defence in a court of law, nor should it.
that disagree with my beliefs. Political correctness was a good thing when it was applied to the Civil Rights battle of the 1960's but it is not good for some present day things such as gay rights. I believe they are entitled to the rights they want however I am against their demands that Christian Business owners be subject to the law of man and not the law's of God as well as their conscience.
he is expected to follow the laws of society and government instead of the laws of Christianity that he feels apply to his business. If that's not an example of PC getting out of hand than what is? Some people take political correctness to the extreme when they think it apply's to people adopting the same beliefs as the majority of society instead of saying well I'll keep my beliefs but I'll live peacfully with this group of people cnt.
political correctness is both good and bad. In some cases it helps people but in other cases it opresses people. For example societies failure to look at a business such as a hotel or something as a private intity meant to serve specific customers instead of as a business meant to serve the public. So for a Christian to have a public business not not a society or club house cnt.
A Politically Correct world - Occassional social awkwardness about whether a comment you wish to say is okay to say.
An Unpolitically Correct world - Mass hatred, segregation and victimisation of a particular gender, race, culture, sexual orientation, religious belief, disability and age.
Hmmmmm...Do you know what?.I can't for the life of me decide which world is more preferable.
@danutcase66 I think you are clueless and even if you do not believe it probably makes Adolf Hitler smile at at this moment in your life.I make a point and it is this think for yourself and do not let me or any other do that for you.The thought police do not exist as of yet and if it should come to pass, kill them, and I mean kill them as a world without freedom is a world gone wrong. The PC thuggery is artificial and only creates hatred in this world and who is to say what you should like?Think!
Stewart Lee you poor middle classed idiot. What ever to just being yourself without some loser telling you what to say or think. If I don't like or agree with well that is just to f-ing bad so put that in your filthy bong and smoke it.No one and I mean has the right to tell me or anyone what to believe or think,so cram it with walnuts or if that doesn't do it,find another way.PC thugs are Nazis.
I totally agree with you. People who advocate political correctness are just like the Nazis. They frequently kill people from ethnic minorities, advocate war, promote racism, beat up trade unionists on the streets, and so on. Well done for drawing such an accurate and historically aware parallel.
@wid85 Hi,thank you for understanding what I said. The world we live in is a messy and more fucked up one because of the kiss ass way of our weak kneed leaders who probably have no clue as to what fresh air smells like.War sucks, racism sucks and all negatives suck but if you try to suppress my thinking then you are a Nazi and my granddad killed those cocksuckers and so will I .Pc thugs prepare to be eradicated as it is only what your disgusting kind deserve, stop me me before it is to late.
The 148 people that disliked this video are white, middle class males who read the Daily Mail and have confused safety violations with political correctness.
this blokes problem is he wont see that being told what you cant say is forced control. let people from all quarters speak in public the way they would speak in private. thats fair & its part of what our nation is-a democracy. stewart reminds me of a college socialist. i think he has grown out of it really & now its all a bit of an act to support his act.
@danielthomasslade Since when has "speak freely" in public ever been a way if life here in the U.K? Would you want some guys going up to you (and presumably your lady friend) and say: "mate, I really want to shag your missus. My mates and I will just help oursevles". It's common sense more than anything.
Haven't people already gotten through their heads that moderation is key. You can't be perfect , we're human , we are prone to err. Not everything is black and white , cut and dry. If parents area teaching their kids to be robots , then what a sad life they will live. I'm all for exercising , i'm all for eating right.......in moderation. I'm all for people going to their doctor to make sure they are fine. But what is the point of living , if you can't even express yourself!
@Retrofanatic10 well said, self expression is and should be the rule of the day. Some however would let you escape through a chimney just like the hapless victims of WWII and that just won't do.I implore all people to think for themselves as it is the best way to be,governments may ,well but are they really what they pretend to be?I want peace and joy for this world and freedom from fear and pain but that doesn't mean I won't kill to obtain that goal.Show you have courage and always.
@kisbie Nigger is worse. I believe you can tell a significant amount about a person by asking them this question: "Which word is worse - cunt or dick?"
@Lightf00t1 You're a fucking moron. Political correctness is oppression? So basically it should be ok to have no political correctness and oppress exclusively brown people, people like you make me sick.
@Lightf00t1 yeah we're so oppressed, not being able to shout words like nigger or paki in the street. it's simply about respect, and being concious of the power and the potential effects of the language we, often thoughtlessly, use. There's an article linked in the video's description, I suggest you read it.
@Lightf00t1 If I couldn't think for myself I'd be lapping up Murdoch's bullshit. The right wing can't claim thinking for themselves when they control a section of the media horribly disproportionate to the number of people that would genuinely agree with it if they could motivate themselves to analise it.
@Lightf00t1 Stop listening to lefties! Grrr! Listen to righties! You know why they're right and the left is wrong? The clue's in the name! GRRR! COMMUNISLAMOFASCISM!
@apc1863 I agree that hateful speech is hurtful but equally hurtful is some scumbag telling us what to think and say.I think all people are good and some are scum and need to be eliminated from the rest of us who are civilized".Old sodomite been at his lad" again comes to mind as to what vermin needs to be eliminated from this world. Oops that was not PC I meant Osama Bin Ladin not old sodomite been at his lad again ,silly me.
@apc1863 - of course it is not oppression - but the law does create a legal obligation and social attitude that men respect women, whites respect other races, straight people respect gays, healthy people respect the handicappped, and religious people must respect non believers - while in all the cases the opposite is not true - and in my experience the second mentioned categories here are a lot more willing to abuse and disrespect the former without social awkwards. maybe my background, but true
Bullshit, freedom of speech is being allowed to say ANYTHING you please! Ideally political correctness is a good thing, but in application its smothering people's ability to say anything about other cultures. In Britain british culture should be the priority.
@hanson666999 You might be able to say whatever you like, but that also means people can call you out for saying something horrifically offensive. Or argue against your point.
Political Correctness: The lie that we buy from politicians every day that states, contrary to logic and all rational thinking, that you can REALLY pick up a piece of dog shit by the clean side...
No, at it's worst it's using bullshit language to ignore reality, or walking on egg shells to avoid offending people with thin skin. At it's worst it's seeing prejudice where none exists.
Also the idea that 'some guy getting into trouble for saying something innocent' is a price we HAVE to pay for not hearing racism laced with hatered is pure bullshit.
This mr Lee misses the point. Common sense and being nice - good. Finger pointing stupid mindlessness STUPID, FOUL, ANNOYING, TINY MINDED, THE THING UNUSUAL TO PUBLIC OPINION thing that political correctness is - not good. OK? Good.
its pc gone mad! I have the right to burn a cross outside a pakis lawn, its called FREEDOM OF SPEECH! if they get offended its their own fault for being different! But now I cant say I have an irrational hatred for people who are different without being called a racist. its all the looney left and broken britain and pc gone mad and the NAZI MARXISTS and the JEWS WHO CONTROL THE MEDIA and blah blah blah...
if you think pc is destroying the nation your a reactionary moron who reads the daily mail
@CrsFire its the best paper but my comment above is the view that is the most sensible and when you have read it im sure you will agree and say "thanks" and i'll say "no problem old prune".
What a bunch of crap. PC and multiculturalism is slowly eroding the foundation of all western european societies.
Stewart Lee wants to replace the ethnically homogenous and relativily stable british society with a totalitarian multicultural PC society full of strife and conflict.
PC has gone wild, its time to stop this leftist madness.
@dringles What does PC have to do with any of that, though? Immigration existed before PC and is largely driven by economic factors, not some loony left ideology about creating multicultural societies.
Indeed, PC as a term has become almost meaningless. It's largely used today as a defence against criticism. Someone will make an idiotic statement and when they get criticised for it they'll bame PC and start ranting about free speech. It's more a rubbish debating technique than anything else.
@redkarl73ivan No, instead we'll go back to the days of the Soviet Union. Political Correctness was a Marxist concept of controlling thought. Please stop being so stupid and ignorant and do the research.
@Goodfightlads which research..show me, before making silly claims. In the USSR there was no thing such as political correctness. You followed the party line or got thrown in jail, deported or shot. Not very correct and I do not think there was much room for the public to get involved in debates through the media either. And it is not necessary to add insults to an argument.
The whole agenda behind multiculturalism and pushing and harrassing white people into marrying and having children with nonwhites, is so the indigenious white populations of Europe will eventually one day be wiped out . The Nazi's wouldn't to live in an all white racially pure society of blond hair blue eye people. The Cultural Marxist wants to live in an all different shades of brown society where blond hair blue eyed people don't exist. It's the same racist agenda in reverse.
I'm a left-wing kind of dude, I hold no opinions derogatory to any real minorities in any sense, but even I can see that the main draw back to PC attitudes, at least those taken to the extremes they occasionally are is that they make expression of unpopular but valid ideas, humour, etc. an offence and remove the possibility of rational discussion. Neither I nor anyone else has a right not to be offended by the opinions of others, but we should be able to discuss and dissect those opinions.
@smoochym Let me guess: English, male, aged between oh 15-25, white, football fan? I'm not 'a ginger' but I have lived in the UK long enough to enjoy seeing how English men like you have been knocked back to the last bigoted/racist/xenophobic thing they can get away with saying in polite company. It's hilarious that you and your like-minded pals have destroyed the lives of innocent, bullied kids with the 'wrong' coloured hair, isn't it? Hahaha gingers lolz rofl etc. You're a genius mate!
political correctness is the government criminalising certain words and the expression of certain views, theres no argueing really thats what it is, you might think that its ok because only the people with extreme views are going to be picked on, wrong, just because the government doesnt use a power against you today, dont think it wont tomorrow... i cant beleive some of you think that its ok for a government to ban words/views, who are the real nazi's here....
@ImEuanAndIGotsSkeelz "political correctness is the government criminalising certain words and the expression of certain views, theres no argueing really thats what it is"
what are you talking about? PC is not a legal institution. the 'n' word, for example, is not illegal, but it is highly politically incorrect.
@somerandomer "nigger" is usually considered "incitement to racial hatred" here in the UK and is a criminal offence, even opposing things like immigration or affirmative action as the americans call it can be quite risky if you say it out loud now, can lose your job for having views like that, even if you just have it on say your facebook and your boss see's it or that, its a slow creep but even now "crimethink" as george orwell calls it is near to reality..
@ImEuanAndIGotsSkeelz Yes but it isn't the word itself that is being prohibited, it's the use of it in certain contexts with certain harmful intent. You have just used the word yourself, but that is not illegal. There are countless other examples of words that are politically incorrect but have no restriction in law, such as sexist or homophobic insults.
Also, even if some elements of PC have started to become legislation, that is not what pc IS. It is not a government driven phenomenon.
@somerandomer seems to be a very government driven phenomenon, maybe thats what pc was meant to be but all it is these days is the increasing criminalisation of language, what george orwell would call "crimespeak" so what should PC be in your opinion?
@ImEuanAndIGotsSkeelz you keep talking about crimespeak. what i'm saying is that there are actually very few legal restrictions on free speech. inciting racial hatred is one, but other than that i can't think of any. there are censorship rules obviously about what type of content can be broadcast at certain times of day, but there always have been. that is not a PC issue.
... and even if it were true that free speech is now being increasingly restricted- PC has been around 25 years. if anything, governments are lagging behind rather than driving it forward.
"even opposing things like immigration or affirmative action as the americans call it"
it seems here that you're saying that affirmative action is what americans call immigration. i hope not. immigration and affirmative action are completely different concepts
@somerandomer sorry should have been clear, opposing imigration, or opposing affirmative action. i meant, what i mean by it is people are now penalised by the law for vocally opposing things like that, because it can be twisted around by people pressing charges, you can wind that around into being a racist comment, inciting racial hatred is a very far reaching term. maybe there are few direct legal restrictions, but parts of the law have been made so wide that they are beggining to infringe
Political correctness has not gone too far, you have gone too far policing yourself. and you can use the word nigger if you are white, you just have to ask, do you really want to?

EIN771 2 months ago
@EIN771 I may be a retard in your eyes but at least I can finish a sentence with a full stop. You are not seeing this vision of Stewart Lee are you.
Every person I have ever met who says, its PC gone mad or your a PC crybaby, are racist. They just close it up in thinly disguised language so they can survive in a world were toleration of other cultures is accepted.
spuddy83 2 months ago
@spuddy83 I may not be able to finish a sentence with a full stop in your eyes but at least I would never type 'its' instead of 'it's' or 'were' instead of 'where'. Good work there, retard.
So you would assume that anyone who ever said 'pc has gone mad' are actually racists? So you are stereotyping and discriminating based on little evidence? And then you go on about tolerance?
I suggest you stop making youtube even more stupid than it is already.
EIN771 2 months ago
@EIN771 I'll have a typo over an ignorance of grammatical error taught in primary school anyday. Evidence? Well that is life experience, I'm not a social scientist but I can safely say that 100% of people I know are. I was not offering fact, but opinion. And considering your love of Clarkson books I'm sure you like a little giggle at ethnic minorities yourself.
You dont understand Stewart Lee at all, do you? Jog on before you dribble more lard out of that shit box you call a mouth.
spuddy83 2 months ago
@spuddy83 I think you are presuming a little to much, when you say that you and Stewart Lee are saying the same thing.
Stewart Lee was arguing that political correctness gone mad isn't true, and he is correct. You are saying that anyone who says political correctness has gone mad is a racist. That is such a stupid opinion, I'm surprised you had the gall to even say it
Political correctness has not gone mad. You are a politically correct person gone mad. Anyone who disagrees with you = racist
EIN771 2 months ago
@EIN771 Listen to your argument.
1. You say you understand what Stewart Lee is saying.
2. Then attack me for saying relatively the same thing. You are out of your depth. Go back to your little toy planes. *Pow* *Pow*
spuddy83 2 months ago
@spuddy83 Oh and I can always tell that I've won when someone starts criticising my Clarkson books (proudly displayed on the shelf) and my interest in Aviation. Even a five year old could click onto my profile, searching for ammunition to use against me. That does not indicate that you have wit really.
I have never laughed at ethnic minorities in my life either, since you brought it up.
I suggest you stop being a PC crybaby, you are giving the racists something to use against us.
EIN771 2 months ago
@EIN771 I always know I have won when someones only argument against me is calling me a retard then claim to be high and moral. Do you always mock the mentally handicapped? What is your definition of PC?
I'm not ad-hocing the argument, your love of clarkson is relative to the argument. Clarkson is the kind of person Stewart is talking about. When he discusses how people hide their racism behind cleverly disguised language. And you started the insults, check your 1st reply. Derp!
spuddy83 2 months ago
@spuddy83 My only argument against you was calling you a retard? Try reading the words again. And unless you are mentally handicapped I have never mocked anyone with a disability (I have one myself).
Besides, Id be the first to say that I am not high n mighty, just reasonable. And would not assume someone was a racist because they read Clarkson books or think PC has gone mad. But as far as you care, having a different opinion to Stewart is a bad thing. Are you slow, insecure or unreasonable?
EIN771 2 months ago
@EIN771 Insecure? Well I was not the one waiding into other peoples conversation. And to be fair my comment to the I hate PC guy was a bit tongue in cheek, but your insecurity in yourself let you fire away. Kind of like someone mighty? You are proving me right. I have worked with mentally disabled people and I do find your choice of terminology quite offensive, try saying that to the members of Camphill Mourne Grange. (Google it) and try telling them that you are not discriminating.
spuddy83 2 months ago
@spuddy83 Hardly wading into other people's conversations on a public forum, now is it? Are you mentally challenged? If not, then I do not feel any bit guilty for calling you retarded. You have no real argument, that much is clear.
You repeatedly look for personality flaws to refute my claims that your opinion is fucked up. You even try to imply I am insecure, because you have no original argument. If you don't like being called retarded, go and imagine up some insults and say they are from me

Failure.

@Pastor9764 It's so sad to see. I think the problem is that people have a hard time, in these discussions, to make a difference between arguing to forbid people to say certain words as opposed to taking responsibility for the meaning of certain words.

TheSolitaryHeart 7 months ago
@TheSolitaryHeart When moh conquered India, Persia and the Byzantine empire muslims couldn't read or write, they copied their alphabet from the Hindu's, copied, stole or forced over all knowledge from the conquered countries/empires and claimed it theirs. There is not one muslim, educated in a muslim country, that got a Nobel prize for science/medicine. Jews have over 120.
Tralgit 7 months ago
@Tralgit You must be a hard learner! the Arabic and Hebrew alphabet have a common origin with the Hindi, Latin and Greek alphabet that originates from THE PHOENICIAN one , which ultimately evolved from the Cuniform alpabet that was used in Mesopotamia- Modern day Iraq.

Tralgit 7 months ago
@Tralgit "Western Culture" has it's origins in the Middle East. Our writing system- We write in the Latin alphabet that the Romans used, the Romans adopted the Latin alphabet from the Greek one, they in turn adopted theirs from the Phoenicians who lived in modern day Lebanon. The Arabic and Hebrew alphabets also originated from the Phoenician script via another branch. Even the Devanagari used in the Indian languages have their origins here. Point: East and West we have a common origin.
TheSolitaryHeart 7 months ago
@TheSolitaryHeart Nice try pal, but muslims got theirs from the Hindu's, not from any other culture. Muslims couldn't read or write when they conquered the most important civilisations in that part of the world. When their victims died out and there was no follow up the who thing died like it is today. Muslim countries produce nothing of any value for the world, their uni's aren't even in the top 500. Their education is reciting the Koran and absorbing hate for everything non muslim.
Tralgit 7 months ago
@Tralgit Lets get this straight, somebody like you would never be my "pal". It's not a "nice try" as I presented you with facts. The shit you have just typed has nothing on the facts I presented. Muslims couldn't read or write? Says who? You? I'd take the word of a historian over yours who says otherwise. I'm not even defending Islam, I detest it just like any other religion. You just make statements that are based upon your prejudices- you cannot deny facts.
TheSolitaryHeart 7 months ago
@Tralgit Got theirs from the Hindus? The Phoenicians weren't even muslim and Hindi along with all the other Indian languages did get it's alphabet from the Phoenician one.
TheSolitaryHeart 7 months ago
@Tralgit I agree that Islam teaches an appalling set of values like any other religion. Religion itself is toxic. It's just at the moment the most militant religion happens to be Islam. That said, some Christians are no better...Westboro Baptist Church?
TheSolitaryHeart 7 months ago
@Tralgit And another thing even Christianity the supposed "backbone" of Western Civilization is nothing more than an offshoot of a Jewish cult that by a fluke became the worlds dominant religion.

@itsayellowfig Are you saying Islam is not good and peaceful? A few extremists do not make a religion. I really don't know how to take Stewart Lee at times, I'm fairly certain that him saying that he wishes Richard Hammond had been decapitated in his accident isn't all that politically correct either. He just makes the rules up as he goes along.
StraitKnopfler 7 months ago
@StraitKnopfler It's not the same thing, though. Political correctness protects minority or oppressed groups. If he was saying Hammond should be decapitated because, I don't know, he was working class, then it would make him a hypocrite. While that routine may be hurtful or cruel to some, it doesn't fall under the definition of political correctness, at least as defined here.
imtotallyconfused 7 months ago
@imtotallyconfused Ok, I see your point. However, in one of his routines he also has a bit about how William Wallace was gay, not in an overtly discriminatory way, but in Lee's usual way of subtly taking the piss, using homosexuality to demean Wallace's 'manly' status. As ever, you can't tell how serious Lee is trying to be, but - serious or not - playing on stereotypes of homosexuality in such a way is hardly ever PC.

Also many people fail to see that a Christian business owner might feel Dishonest to his faith, living one way while practicing the opposite of what he believes, if he were to give in to the pressures to meet the demands of society that goes against their faith.
charlamain2209 8 months ago
@charlamain2209 Are you referring to the famed B&B owner? His feeling of dishonesty isn't equivalent to the oppression gay people face, and his feeling of dishonesty and attitude that gay people are not entitled to fall in love, to have sex, to get married, is downright dangerous and backs up and contributes to everything from anti-lgbt bullying, which cn lead to suicide or simply be downright traumatic, and the murders of gay people for daring to show affection in public (a recent case (cont.))
imtotallyconfused 7 months ago
@charlamain2209 (in Britain), or simply because the person found out they were gay or even just them 'looking' gay. Besides, he's inflicting his faith on others. If political correctness or the law required the hypothetical Christian business owner to stop reading the Bible, or banned church, or insisted he put posters in each room declaring Jesus was a liar or a serial killer or a giant bunny wearing a man suit, you might have a point. Rarely does political correctness require (cont.)
imtotallyconfused 7 months ago
@imtotallyconfused Rarely does political correctness require Christians to change anything about themselves, merely to stop forcing their faith on others.
imtotallyconfused 7 months ago
Most of the things claimed to be assaults against Christianity are, in fact, assaults against things that harm other people - ie, standing on street corners declaring that all gay people are destined for hell, which, as I have said, fuels the prejudice against gay people in society, and backs up the opinions and actions of hateful bigots, as well as being an extremely damaging act in itself. Imagine if someone stood on a street corner telling you that something you had fears and doubts (cont.)
imtotallyconfused 7 months ago
about anyway, was something that would cause you to be tortured for all eternity. Even if you didn't believe the person, the fact that someone - an entire movement of someones - thought that about you, coupled with, say, the lack of gay people on television when compared with heterosexual people, and a million other ways that society shows its disdain for gay people, could cause self-hatred, anger, and stress.
The other incidents tend to be safety requirements - removing necklaces, (cont.)
imtotallyconfused 7 months ago
for example, and the people told to do see that those whose religion requires the wearing of a necklace, or a head covering, are allowed to side-step the rule for religious reasons, and think they should too.
Christians are not oppressed in this country. While undoubtedly there may be incidents of people saying cruel things, or work bullying, or sometimes attacks, these can happen to privileged groups, such as white people being attacked for being white. (cont.)
imtotallyconfused 7 months ago
The point is, these incidents are rare, and generally reported and taken seriously when they do occur - look at the coverage the B&B owner got, and the level of support from papers such as the Daily Mail - whereas if, say, a Muslim woman was attacked for wearing a burqa, the incident would likely not make front pages or news headlines.
This may seem like I've been sidetracked, but I'm establishing the position of Christians in this country compared to that of gay people.
imtotallyconfused 7 months ago 7
Why do I believe this? Because Faith to a large majority of christian business owners is not something they put away after church on sunday. It's part of their whole being and helps them in every decision they make. When Gay rights activist try to impose their views on christian business owners it seems to imply that they'd rather they be greedy and dishonest rather than faithful to their God, all because it doesn't mesh with their conquest. Cnt.
charlamain2209 8 months ago
@charlamain2209
the trouble is that God is a fictional being.
This would not stand up as a defence in a court of law, nor should it.
andrich7777 7 months ago
that disagree with my beliefs. Political correctness was a good thing when it was applied to the Civil Rights battle of the 1960's but it is not good for some present day things such as gay rights. I believe they are entitled to the rights they want however I am against their demands that Christian Business owners be subject to the law of man and not the law's of God as well as their conscience.
charlamain2209 8 months ago
he is expected to follow the laws of society and government instead of the laws of Christianity that he feels apply to his business.

So for a Christian to have a public business not not a society or club house cnt.

lol. A short summary of this post:
1. How dare you ask me to be polite to minorities? You're exactly like a Nazi.
2. I will eradicate you and all your sub-human kind!
If you're planning to mangle us half as badly as you mangle your sentences then I'm terrified.
(I'm not really)
(and I have to spell that last part out because you're thick)

A Politically Correct world - Occassional social awkwardness about whether a comment you wish to say is okay to say.
An Unpolitically Correct world - Mass hatred, segregation and victimisation of a particular gender, race, culture, sexual orientation, religious belief, disability and age.
Hmmmmm...Do you know what?.I can't for the life of me decide which world is more preferable.
danutcase66 8 months ago

Thepast2012 8 months ago
@Thepast2012
I totally agree with you. People who advocate political correctness are just like the Nazis. They frequently kill people from ethnic minorities, advocate war, promote racism, beat up trade unionists on the streets, and so on. Well done for drawing such an accurate and historically aware parallel.
wid85 8 months ago
@wid85 Hi,thank you for understanding what I said. The world we live in is a messy and more fucked up one because of the kiss ass way of our weak kneed leaders who probably have no clue as to what fresh air smells like.War sucks, racism sucks and all negatives suck but if you try to suppress my thinking then you are a Nazi and my granddad killed those cocksuckers and so will I .Pc thugs prepare to be eradicated as it is only what your disgusting kind deserve, stop me me before it is to late.

this blokes problem is he wont see that being told what you cant say is forced control. let people from all quarters speak in public the way they would speak in private. thats fair & its part of what our nation is-a democracy. stewart reminds me of a college socialist. i think he has grown out of it really & now its all a bit of an act to support his act.
danielthomasslade 8 months ago

Retrofanatic10 9 months ago
@Retrofanatic10 well said, self expression is and should be the rule of the day. Some however would let you escape through a chimney just like the hapless victims of WWII and that just won't do.I implore all people to think for themselves as it is the best way to be,governments may ,well but are they really what they pretend to be?I want peace and joy for this world and freedom from fear and pain but that doesn't mean I won't kill to obtain that goal.Show you have courage and always.

@Lightf00t1 You're a fucking moron. Political correctness is oppression? So basically it should be ok to have no political correctness and oppress exclusively brown people, people like you make me sick.

Who says brown people need protection? If I was a brown person, I'd be pretty offended by you.
Lightf00t1 10 months ago
@Lightf00t1 yeah we're so oppressed, not being able to shout words like nigger or paki in the street. it's simply about respect, and being concious of the power and the potential effects of the language we, often thoughtlessly, use. There's an article linked in the video's description, I suggest you read it.

If you weren't so fucking brainwashed, you'd realise that what we are experiencing is a form of tyranny. A soft tyranny, but a tyranny nonetheless.
Maybe if you educated yourself as to what freedom actually means, your head wouldn't be so far up your left-wing arse.
Stop listening to lefty teachers/academics and think for yourself.
Lightf00t1 10 months ago
@Lightf00t1 If I couldn't think for myself I'd be lapping up Murdoch's bullshit. The right wing can't claim thinking for themselves when they control a section of the media horribly disproportionate to the number of people that would genuinely agree with it if they could motivate themselves to analise it.

Thepast2012 8 months ago

"Institutionalized politeness at its worst"
No, at it's worst it's using bullshit language to ignore reality, or walking on egg shells to avoid offending people with thin skin. At it's worst it's seeing prejudice where none exists.
Also the idea that 'some guy getting into trouble for saying something innocent' is a price we HAVE to pay for not hearing racism laced with hatered is pure bullshit.

"....its a small price to pay...."
What a bunch of crap. PC and multiculturalism is slowly eroding the foundation of all western european societies.
Stewart Lee wants to replace the ethnically homogenous and relativily stable british society with a totalitarian multicultural PC society full of strife and conflict.
PC has gone wild, its time to stop this leftist madness.
dringles 11 months ago
@dringles What does PC have to do with any of that, though? Immigration existed before PC and is largely driven by economic factors, not some loony left ideology about creating multicultural societies.
Indeed, PC as a term has become almost meaningless. It's largely used today as a defence against criticism. Someone will make an idiotic statement and when they get criticised for it they'll bame PC and start ranting about free speech. It's more a rubbish debating technique than anything else.

He is right on...very, very much so...we do not want to go back to days of ignorance..enough already..
redkarl73ivan 11 months ago
@redkarl73ivan No, instead we'll go back to the days of the Soviet Union. Political Correctness was a Marxist concept of controlling thought. Please stop being so stupid and ignorant and do the research.
Goodfightlads 11 months ago
@Goodfightlads which research..show me, before making silly claims. In the USSR there was no thing such as political correctness. You followed the party line or got thrown in jail, deported or shot. Not very correct and I do not think there was much room for the public to get involved in debates through the media either. And it is not necessary to add insults to an argument.
redkarl73ivan 10 months ago

Neither I nor anyone else has a right not to be offended by the opinions of others, but we should be able to discuss and dissect those opinions.

political correctness is the government criminalising certain words and the expression of certain views, theres no argueing really thats what it is, you might think that its ok because only the people with extreme views are going to be picked on, wrong, just because the government doesnt use a power against you today, dont think it wont tomorrow... i cant beleive some of you think that its ok for a government to ban words/views, who are the real nazi's here....
ImEuanAndIGotsSkeelz 11 months ago
@ImEuanAndIGotsSkeelz "political correctness is the government criminalising certain words and the expression of certain views, theres no argueing really thats what it is"
what are you talking about? PC is not a legal institution. the 'n' word, for example, is not illegal, but it is highly politically incorrect.
somerandomer 10 months ago
@somerandomer "nigger" is usually considered "incitement to racial hatred" here in the UK and is a criminal offence, even opposing things like immigration or affirmative action as the americans call it can be quite risky if you say it out loud now, can lose your job for having views like that, even if you just have it on say your facebook and your boss see's it or that, its a slow creep but even now "crimethink" as george orwell calls it is near to reality..
ImEuanAndIGotsSkeelz 10 months ago
@ImEuanAndIGotsSkeelz Yes but it isn't the word itself that is being prohibited, it's the use of it in certain contexts with certain harmful intent. You have just used the word yourself, but that is not illegal. There are countless other examples of words that are politically incorrect but have no restriction in law, such as sexist or homophobic insults.
Also, even if some elements of PC have started to become legislation, that is not what pc IS. It is not a government driven phenomenon.
somerandomer 10 months ago
@somerandomer seems to be a very government driven phenomenon, maybe thats what pc was meant to be but all it is these days is the increasing criminalisation of language, what george orwell would call "crimespeak" so what should PC be in your opinion?
ImEuanAndIGotsSkeelz 10 months ago
@ImEuanAndIGotsSkeelz you keep talking about crimespeak. what i'm saying is that there are actually very few legal restrictions on free speech. inciting racial hatred is one, but other than that i can't think of any. there are censorship rules obviously about what type of content can be broadcast at certain times of day, but there always have been. that is not a PC issue.
somerandomer 10 months ago
@ImEuanAndIGotsSkeelz
... and even if it were true that free speech is now being increasingly restricted- PC has been around 25 years. if anything, governments are lagging behind rather than driving it forward.
"even opposing things like immigration or affirmative action as the americans call it"
it seems here that you're saying that affirmative action is what americans call immigration. i hope not. immigration and affirmative action are completely different concepts
somerandomer 10 months ago
@somerandomer sorry should have been clear, opposing imigration, or opposing affirmative action. i meant, what i mean by it is people are now penalised by the law for vocally opposing things like that, because it can be twisted around by people pressing charges, you can wind that around into being a racist comment, inciting racial hatred is a very far reaching term. maybe there are few direct legal restrictions, but parts of the law have been made so wide that they are beggining to infringe
ImEuanAndIGotsSkeelz 10 months ago
