These older captains had much more spunk than the newer ones. I think though Jaz kind of abandoned the j-sette style, looking at it retrospectively, she introduced alot of new things that have allowed people like Shanketta to take it back to the old style, but with a twist--because of the innovations jasma brought in, i.e. leg extentions (well actually Nikela did the first in "Crazy in love" Jaz added the holding it), one-hand cartwheels, the backward body throw down, no hand front rolls, pop-ups, etc. Had it not been for Jasma,dont thnk thy wlda evolved.

But she did not introduce those new moves you named, such as the leg extensions, the 1-hand cartwheels were done 1st by Nakela in "Jsettes 2002 Bad Mamma Jamma" video, and the body throw down has been done different directions by jsettes before her...just not to the back. She was not that great after all

this routine is AMAZING no one has any right to say its sloppy!!! though it doesnt have a lot of technique(which I can see some of you dont know the definition of the word from your comments) it's still one of the best routines i've ever seen in reference to style and creativity

From my perspective, she is dancing on a hardwood floor and if anyone has danced on a hard wood floor it is very difficult to perform some of those moves she did. Maybe there is something on the floor or she had a dance shoe on that helps prevent against slipping but all-in-all she did that.

Its the field show that determines a dance squad and the j-settes lack technique big time. there has to be balance with booty shaking and tecnique... like 14k.. technique can put a squad to shame..dancing dolls have that. but every squad is good at something different but everyone should try and improve

i agree that they are clearly not what they use to be, but I strongly believe that Naquila(02-03) was the last great captain, right up under Afroshanna. Quita was a beast in the stands, i never really seen alot of her field shows, but that girl worked. I do agree that Jasma kind of tweeked the j-sette style a bit. But I have to agree, the 90s and Naquila's year were the golden years :)

Well I know 4 the last past 2 years @ the Southern Heritage Classic they have not been bringing it none whatsoeva. They j-sette like its not important to them and that is real talk becuz I am a true fanatic of the JSU Prancing J-Settes. I wish they would just gain and keep up their energetic spirit in performing along with their spectacular technical tricks in the stands and on the field for halftime.

I agree with most of what you saying, but all them girls dont suck. Socky and Jasma cant do anything they weren't taught. They only can do what they know and make the best of it. Now, I danced under the direction of Ms. K. Worthy and in 99 and 2000, they were years unmatched ever by any era of J-Settes. Ms. Oatis with all due respect had some good lines, but they had times where they fell off too. The difference is, the off periods didn't last as long as the current years.
