"Sometimes it was funny, sometimes sad, often scary, but mostly you don't really understand what the hell's going on. By the time it wraps up, you're kind of glad. Life's like that. Hopefully, you can enjoy it while it's going on. Try sharing it with a friend, that seems to help."
Liked this a lot...sad to say my life was a LOT like this....even read a letter from futureme.org that I sent to myself 5 yrs ago.....one of the last things that was said to me when things were going so wrong for me was my wife saying "it will be ok"
5 yrs later I am ok... and getting better everyday....thank you my love for 32 years of your love....its good to be whole again :-)
I linked to this elsewhere online, and someone commented that they didn't believe that movies or videos could be art until they saw this, and it changed their entire view. I think that's a good indicator of how powerful this film is.
It's focusing too much on the routine. It's a nice little sociology experiment on what would happen if one were to abandon the "blase attitude" that Georg Simmel wrote about, and to focus on every small interaction in one's day. You'd grow tired, then exhausted, and finally you'd just go crazy focusing on every little thing...
It's also an interesting question that delves into philosophy: "What is life?" Is it the stuff we do everyday, or when we BREAK from the everyday?
I maintain that this is the best piece of animation I've come across. It's got something for everybody. Humor, chaos, artistic merit, dramatic depth, spectacular soundtrack, and no matter who you are, you care about what happens to this guy. [O o]
Can't agree more. I recommend viewing I'm so proud of you if you haven't seen already.
The emotional value carried out in this is staggering. Relatively short film/series but I never felt like this for any character. Hope Bill have the closest thing to a happy ending. =(
its quite surprising that some parts of the music in everything will be ok its very similar to the one of the tree of life ....jmm maybe Alexandre desplat can explain?
Is it the illness? or is it the constantly attentive perception of his life and the world around him, and the nagging feeling that life is a horribly strange, dehumanizing, isolating, and pointless experience that brought about psychosis in Bill.
I think Bill thought too much about his life and routine, and experienced anxiety and psychosis over the absurdity of life. Footage of a man's face bleeding played over and over on tv, a manatee watching you while you sleep. insanity in every day life.
@TrippyMcgee22 It's possible that Bill is the sane one, and those who don't notice the manatee watching them are horribly inattentive or in denial. You raise an excellent point, though.
The way I interpreted this film, Bill most likely has a brain tumor, or some other form of disease that affects your perception of reality (yes I know that a brain tumor doesn't necessarily mean your perception of reality is messed up). Or is he just insane?
@CRAZHEART014 Same here. I was diagnosed with General Anxiety Disorder, if you haven't seen a psychologist and you're really concerned, I would do so right away.
There are parts in my life, were i feel a sense of self pity, but then i feel terrible for feeling self pity for my decent middle class self while many others are in real trouble, then i go back and forth between the two feelings, after a while i take a shower and then i think "am i depressed" i eventually come to the conclusion that im not depressed but just "really sad for a moment" but then i remember a bunch of movies saying "the first stage of depression is denial", then i go on you tube
I find this amazing, but deeply disturbing, confusing, and very depressing at the same time. It somehow seems so different from the first time I watched it years ago. This will be on my mind for at least the next couple days. Wow.
80,000 views. only 80,000 views in 8 months. why must i live in a world where a video like this gets only 80,000 views but a certain other video starring a certain "musician" can get 640,000,000?
This film breaks my heart. What he sees and thinks is beautifull but awfully scary.
To loose the capacity to control ones thought but in exchange see a new exciting world? Is it worth it?
My perspective is he just grew too bored of the real world, and his mind helped him. But it couldn't stop just at making it entretaining, it multiplied all his feelings and fears. That's why he breaks.
What hurts me the most, is that I can't remember his name. And he probably wouldn't give importance to that.
In order to understand this video, you must be at least a little sad. A little WARNING: If you are sad, this vid will become as addictive as hell. Here I am for the 50th time...
i think this video was ment to fuck with your brain.... i feel so weird. im not joking. this video is like the video on grudge i think im going to die...
I think that the theme is that you will go through joys and tragedies and after the events it will be just ok. you may disturb everyone else's life but everything will go back to normal, just as their life will.
This is really great, thank you. I remember a (really long) animated gif from like 15+ years ago of a typist getting overwhelmed and then bashing their brains out on the keyboard. I was a teacher sharing it with students to encourage them to make their first animated gifs. Are you the same artist? Some sketches look the same. Well, that character really blessed me and my students--and this very much also. You are very talented and give a lot. I look forward to your new film. Thank you.
"They all had gigantic bacteria-ridden crotches buried in all the goddamn produce." This film is an excellent depiction of Bill's descent into madness, though it requires a certain frame of mind to truly understand.
This is the best cartoon I have ever seen mostly because It's good but also because of the stark contrast between this and say the animation show. It's beautiful and I could never come up with something so meaningful and yet so funny.
