It's focusing too much on the routine. It's a nice little sociology experiment on what would happen if one were to abandon the "blase attitude" that Georg Simmel wrote about, and to focus on every small interaction in one's day. You'd grow tired, then exhausted, and finally you'd just go crazy focusing on every little thing...

It's also an interesting question that delves into philosophy: "What is life?" Is it the stuff we do everyday, or when we BREAK from the everyday?

I think Bill thought too much about his life and routine, and experienced anxiety and psychosis over the absurdity of life. Footage of a man's face bleeding played over and over on tv, a manatee watching you while you sleep. insanity in every day life.
