It sounds like the violins are using gut strings, which are much nicer sounding than metal strings.
Perhaps it's just the effect of restrained vibrato.
No Gypsy violins in this performance.

Odd the way they accelerate the basso continuo during the first entrance of the tenors.

Usually I prefer baroque versions, like the Bruggen, Leonhardt or Herrewege recordings.
But I like this one also ! Maybe because I've got to know it thanks to YouTube ?
