You might want to argue someone else did this first somewhere else but everyone seems to agree he did it first and in Europe. He did not join MIT till 1994. Of course there was some U.S. technology involved but you almost every invention uses something previously created somewhere else.

Many invention use preexisting technology to do something for the first time. The Wright brothers used preexisting technology for the first manned flight. But everyone is happy to say they "invented" the airplane.

There are several protocols which house the data that passes between computer to make eCommerce happen. Some protocols were made in the US, some in England. All are necessary. Tim's protocol was needed early in the evolution, so other protocols could nest themselves within it transparently. And I'm going to have to correct you. The ZX81 was not a first and was not even mass produced. It was sold in kit form, mail only, that required soldering and didn't even have a display screen. You had to pay extra for it to get mailed to you already assembled. You needed to connect it to a TV.

The ZX81 did not have a screen but you could linke it upto a ordinary TV set screen making it mass useable and cheap for the masses many who were not able to afford later competition from the Commadore and BBC Acorn which got the contract to supply British schools. Sinclair hit back with the colour "Spectrum" computer which sold widely in Britain and EU

You might want to argue someone else did this first somewhere else but everyone seems to agree he did it first and in Europe. He did not join MIT till 1994. Of course there was some U.S. technology involved but you almost every invention uses something previously created somewhere else.

Re:Wright Brothers - They based their design upon the Chanute-Herring biplane hang glider and the first unpowered human flight had already taken place. So the plane, propeller and engine were all preexisting technology.
These are well know and recorded facts and this is a perfect example of using preexisting tech to do something for the first time.

There are several protocols which house the data that passes between computer to make eCommerce happen. Some protocols were made in the US, some in England. All are necessary. Tim's protocol was needed early in the evolution, so other protocols could nest themselves within it transparently. And I'm going to have to correct you. The ZX81 was not a first and was not even mass produced. It was sold in kit form, mail only, that required soldering and didn't even have a display screen. You had to pay extra for it to get mailed to you already assembled. You needed to connect it to a TV.

The ZX81 did not have a screen but you could linke it upto a ordinary TV set screen making it mass useable and cheap for the masses many who were not able to afford later competition from the Commadore and BBC Acorn which got the contract to supply British schools. Sinclair hit back with the colour "Spectrum" computer which sold widely in Britain and EU
