I don't believe it is or ever was the most secure way (FTP sites use to get nuked (hacked) like crazy back in the day) but it is perhaps the most efficient and cost effective way to transfer files. My question is, do people still FTP servers anymore? It's been a very long time since I checked up on this but I do have a use to set up a FTP server here at home.
