  • @Snowbum341 Me too, I kind of liked Sigur Ros before... but Kendrick made me suddenly pay more attention.

  • Words cannot describe how this makes me feel..........

  • Look up "While The City Sleeps - Back When We Knew" (Full album) on youtube. A band with similar big soundscapes and grand crescendos.

  • I'm a huge fan of Sigur Ros just as much as several other bands. Be sure, if this is one of your favorites from the band, do not let yourself pass up the album Hail to the Thief by Radiohead. I know how stubborn some people are about what they listen to. Just a recommendation from one music lover to another. So much of the dark mysterious sounds from Sigur Ros reminds me just how alike Radiohead is.

  • Love this song it's an amazing peice that takes you through a moment where it seems that time has stopped giving us a few minutes to reflect or become more aware of our current extience and the path our lives are on.

  • Loro si che riescono a distinguersi da chiunque altra band... Bravi, davvero. Li stimo.

  • the best part of the song is missing...

  • sigur ros are unbelievabley beautiful...but whoever made this video is a dumbass for wasting all that time and effort on such a piece of shit.

  • Strange, nice

  • This band is so talented. Just amazing.

  • The language aside it is one of the most thought provoking song I have ever heard since "Big Hard Sun" by Indio

  • Real men sing in falsetto!!!!!!

  • linda =D

  • this is a really beautiful, intense and great song..I love it, I love Sigur ros..They are definitely THE band of the century...They can make you crying and at the same time smiling...

well..hope you don't see this as a spam, but I thought this might interest some of you..

I found a band on youtube called "Nyctalgia"

If you've got time, listen to their song "Lost in timeless horizons" and "Falling into nothingness"

Breathtaking, powerful songs by this extremely young guy..

  • that cymbal sounds like it was found in a dumpster.

  • @SidVicious620, according to sigur ros, they found it on the ground. run over

  • Is like the unic good drug..

  • my friend always claimed english is the hardest language to learn (he only speaks english), someone who knows about this tell me what you think.

  • @SOADownsnubs Depends on what's your mothertongue I guess. I'm a native Dutch speaker and I really have an aptitude for English, so for me, it's easy.

  • magic magic

  • Sorry about that. Had something wrong when I tried to post a comment. :/

  • @oktoperi Youtube comments: doling out unwarranted opinions as facts since '05.

  • @oktoperi That's ... not exactly true. Icelandic grammar is as inflectional as Latin, making both quite difficult. There's no way you can compare Latin to English just based on some of the vocabulary. Also Finnish, although complicated, is very logical and many of its cases replace prepositions we'd otherwise use. For a native Englishman I'd agree with Mandarin though. The character set has no retrievable logic now. Anyway, sorry. This song is beautiful. I wish you had the long version up! Takk

  • I really dont know what youre talking about.. Mandarin chinese is hardest language in the world and second hardest is finnish. Latin is one of the easiest ones since it so close to english and english is pretty damn simple. You should read your lessons before you start talking like that over here :)

  • @oktoperi English comes from Germanic. Latin is not Germanic. English has adopted some words from Latin, but that's about it. They're completely different languages, it's not 'so close to english'. Finnish is easy, many of my friends learn to speak it fluently in less than a year. And Latin is not easy, just like any of its descendants. You should go read your lessons before you tell others to do it.

  • Comment removed

  • @lkkjsd: Well.. Ok, latis is not a germanic language, but a.) both latin and germanic languages are part of the indoeuropean languages (which for example finnish or gaelic is not). We have declinations both in german and in latin (and they suck to learn). and b.) its not just some "adopted words" from latin! when william conquered england, the language changed!!

By the way, I dont beleive your claim that finnish is easy, i think its quite hard to learn for a speaker of germanic languages.

  • @Kerrigan66 Well, you're right about almost everything. But Finnish has got a lot of similar sounds to Swedish, Danish, Norwegian and other Germanic derivated languages. For instance, ö is pronounced exactly like the Danish crossed "o". I can't type it now because I have a Portuguese keyboard, but I think you know what I'm talking about. But anyways, I know that for English speakers, Finnish can be a pain in the ass. But I know a few who managed to learn it less than a year, so...

  • @lkkjsd: Well, i think the problem with finnish is both its heavy grammar rules and also the difference in vocabulary.. but I didnt want to say that learning finnish is impossible or something. However, I'm sure that for a "middle-european person" (that is, mother tongue germanic or one of the romanic languages), learning icelandic would be easier than learning finnish.

  • @Kerrigan66 Yeah, definitely. I've lived in Finland for more than a year and I still haven't learnt it, so that's pretty much correct :p

  • Le falta el alma de sigur ros, no convence. No me parece apropiada la imagen que aparece de la chica.

  • *.*

  • @Yankee59ers *Ný batteri - means New battery

  • Comment removed

  • No entiendo como puede parecerte bonito este video. Creo que no ves videos de sigur ros.

  • Was this filmed in Iceland?

    If so, where in Iceland?

  • @Omegashadowyoshi google it.

  • In swedish this title ''Ny Batteri'' literally means ''New Battery'' in English (:

  • @FriendlyWords Yeah but in Icelandic it's "Ný" batteri

  • very beautiful song...and video.. * * * * *

thank you jake so much for sharing...

  • I love this.

  • perfect...thanks Jake!

  • ohh i thought it was a woman.... still awsome tho. just like the first time i herd the mars volta i thought it was a woman now i love the mars volta.

  • sigur ros have helped me get through so many obstacles in life and constantly help to keep me in a possitive and humble state of mind . how i want to be . absolutley magical !!

  • you know icelandic?? :)

  • @victoryrose1 so... how do you like iceland?

  • @victoryrose1 Ironicly the lyrics to this song are very dark, sad, and depressing.

    None the less amazing.

  • @victoryrose1 interesting! how?

  • I never really could get into Bjork, but Sigur Ros have immediately captivated me. Beautiful masterpieces each song!

  • I totally agree, bjork's stuff can get pretty out there, but sigur ros is progressive in a more inviting way.

  • i didnt need to know it was a guy

  • GOOD MUSIC

  • Just lie down, close your eyes and listen. Be ready for a trip throughout the depths of your soul...

  • @midairman this is EXACTLY the way I feel when listening this song (ny batteri)

  • I'm glad you know what I mean. Everytime, it feels like a confrontation with myself, kind of hard to explain. But it never ceases to move me...

  • well this is an awesome song and the video is very good aswel..It's just bad you cutted off the best part of this song..=(

But the song as itself in it's whole shape is just so incredibly great! Very stong atmosphere!

I love this kind of music and always looking for new bands..SOme days ago I found a band on youtube called "Nyctalgia"..All of you should listen to their song "Falling into nothingness"..

Great newcomer that deserves more attention...trust me..it's great..!

  • opps my bad, good song but I thought the singer was a female ...feminine voice

  • Ny batteri? That means "New Battery" in swedish xD

  • That's because it means New Battery, Icelandic and Swedish are not that different, along with Danish and Norwegian, Faroese too.

  • Don't say that, Danish is pretty weird :P

  • Haha, and annoying to try to speak too ... It's mandatory to learn here in Iceland, I've been learning it for 5 years now, and about to go nuts ! haha :P

  • Danes sound like they have food in their mouths when they talk :O

  • I didn't know that..!

So attending Icelandic school mean that you have to learn Icelandic (of course:), English and then Danish as well? Compulsory?

That's a bit weird since Danish certainly isn't a big language.

In Sweden we have to study English, but then we get to choose whether we want to learn German, French or Spanish.

  • Yes, we have to learn Icelandic, English and Danish. We learn Icelandic from grade 1, English from grade 4 (usually) and Danish from grade 7. Then, in grade 11, we need to choose a 4th language (usually). The choice is usually between French, Spanish and German. Of course, it differs from school to school but this is the usual order of things. ;)

  • sigh, that's so awesome. I'm a huge lover of languages, and here in the U.S., they really downplay the importance of learning other languages, and don't always teach them well. It's wonderful what they are doing in Iceland. :)

  • @fashionandmusic921 icelandic is the second hardest language in the world, right after latin, plus we must learn three more langueges to complete school, i speak flouid icelandic, engilsh and swedish... im only thirteen so i will start learing either spanish or german next year, or if i want something else :)

  • @Boris222222 *fluent and *languages - Impressive never the less

    Amazing song, gives me chills.

  • You lucky! here in spain we only learn english since we are five, and barely we can speak when we are adults...

The third languages is a choice...damm

  • I love Sweden and swedish people.

Open minded, and Theyr heart is in the right place, just like Icelanders. cant ask for much more than that ;)

  • I'm swedish and I have to say we have some first class idiots here too.

Icelandic and Swedish both developed from the same ancient language, but since Iceland is more isolated they didn't get as much german/french/english influences in their language. Hence why it differs more from Swedish then say Danish or norwegian differs from swedish.

  • Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian are closer relatives to each other than to Icelandic to begin with. Also, people in Iceland intentionally protect their language from foreign influences.

  • of course whe make new words for new tings and come on whe are only 300 thousend ... :Þ ... no tellevison here nei meira svona SJÓNVARP: Þ

  • "What the hell is your point? Icelandic is noble and the rest of scandinavians are vulgar?"

I wrote nothing even remotely resembling that, retard. Btw, I'm learning Swedish.

"Remember where your ancestors cvame from superstar. They came from the land of the Norseman. Now go pay 16 bucks for a banana in your icelandic saga."

Dude, frankly, do you have some issues or what?

  • @chaoticpicks

Sounds like an immature personal problem to me...

  • That's right, Icelandics do protect their language very actively. But Icelandic and Swedish, and Norge.... all the Scandinavian languages derived from one old language, to which Icelandic stayed the nearest, in account to their Speech-politic.... Actually, that's what my prof told me ;)

    Greetings ;)

  • Youre right, they all derived from Old Norse. Icelandic is the closest to Old Norse of the languages that derive from it. Even so, an Icelandic person cannot read Old Norse without having some major problems. We can, however, read texts that are 800 years old with pretty little help.

Icelanders really do protect their languages fiercely, but that has somewhat lessened in recent times. There are a million English slang words used today.

  • i shared a beer with Jonsi two days ago in NYC!

  • This video skips the best part of the song...

  • This is one of my all-time favorite songs. I love everything about it. His voice in this song, the bass, the instrumentals.

It's an emotionally fulfilling song. To listen to this song and enjoy it is the epitome of being human.

  • makes me think of winter, as winter comes in iceland it's about 8-9 months of darkness :( depressing, since in the summer it never gets dark

  • @ramrecon were the hell in Iceland have you bin ?

8-9 mothes of darknes, what? It´s closer to 2 and a half months. The time of the year when the daylight is only about 3- 4 hours lasts from about mid-November until the end of January. Not 8-9 months

  • What a creative group of musicians...

  • das video wird dem inhalt des songs überhaupt nicht gerecht.... außerdem wurde die bes stelle ausgelassen

  • geht mir genau so...

    Von einer grossartigen Band!

  • they are great....radiohead is great.....i dont think there are any influences.....they are from seperate worlds.......but speak the same language.....

  • "they are from seperate worlds.......but speak the same language..... "

    So f**king true!!!!!

  • I can't stop crying and feeling 10000 emotions everytime I listen to this song.. so so so beautifuk, can't even explain..

  • well, maybe not crying... but it is an emotive song..

  • Looks silly then you seeing guitar, but hearing bowed guitar and bass.

  • the explosion in the end is cut...thats a shame

  • awesome song. funny tho i've had this song mislabeled from a download as radioheads amnesiac/morning bell, which i knew it wasn't, but kept it b/c its a hell of a song and glad i finally know who it is now.

  • Like the landscapes. But why the other scenes? They differ to much, and they don't fit te song

  • The thursday cover of this sogn is intense and just amazing, check it out if you like this song

  • I just saw them at Red Rocks in Denver. They were amazing. This song moved me to tears.

  • really? their music just makes me think alot, abt random stuff, even if its sad....i dont feel sad....

  • me neither, i just like to listen to is

    it soothes me

    as Explosions In The Sky

but if i want, i can get depressed

when im like, down, i like to listen to this kind of music to depress me more

    heh

  • Not all tears shed are done so in sadness. They were tears being shed by being simply moved.

  • the sound reminds me of the good old -talktalk- Spirit of Eden or Laughing Stock ...

    cool band...

    peace

  • Its not the whole song

  • this is just amazing,

  • Iroz liý oovitiíngg bi ýi eýliíngg bi du vey yasbof nözliku oovitiú.

  • quand on lit les paroles c assez flippant mais faut avouer que le son transcende tout, mais dune force...

  • LOL

  • Can't believe you snipped out part of the beginning. What kind of music video cuts out part of the song?

  • Maybe he was short on video footage

  • Who is the man, who is playing the guitar?

  • haha

    me

  • everyone has the most inane comments on this brilliant and unbelievably profound song.

lovely job on the vid. thanks for putting it up.
