Turkish is much more sensual that many other kinds of belly dance, for many styles the sexier moves were eliminated for many reasons. In the US they were trying to get away from the hoochy coochy image and it became very repressed for a long time to try to gain respectability.
Wow this is Ateş-( fire) ..really its nice to watch .Turkish belly dance is much more free spirited in costumes and moves ..She was really a legendary one R.I.P
@kraols WTF?!? Who the fuck are you?!? LOL Here's your fucked up expressed thought, mind you, I don't even know in what context you're referrering to: 'How is that 'positively hates Turkey' I cannot understand what you're trying to ask. What the fuck are you even talking about?!?
She is really fun to watch. I will study this for some time. I like that they didn't edit her dancing very much, one whole song's worth of actual dancing.
I don't know about a statue, but Nejla is mentioned a lot in a book I just finished reading - "Snake Hips - Bellydancing and How I Found True Love" by Anne Thomas Soffee. It was a wonderful book, and WELL worth a read for anyone who has any interest in bellydancing.
If anyone can tell me about the statue the was made of Nejla put up in a Park (I think it was in NY) then taken down, I'd like to know more I read about a long time ago now I can not find ANYTHING on it!
The statue was commissioned by showman David Merrick to publicize his musical, Fanny, in which Nejla danced briefly. The statue caused a scandal when it was installed in Poet's Corner in Central Park's It was nude. I haven't found any pics of it.
This is so pretty and feminine! I love Retro-Raks!

I love how we were raised appreciating belly dance as a beautiful healthy art form, while in some parts of the middle east, it is treated like porno.

@kraols Granted, retardation is not necessarily a natural attribute but in your case it's self-developed.
