Thanks for posting this, my nostalgia though is tinged with chagrin, all these riders (delgado, theunisse, rooks) have confessed to doping on a grand scale throughout their careers, and not just a few uppers but everything, EPO, steroids, testosterone, the works.

I remember that last stage between the late Lauren Fignon and Greg Lemond, back when the last stage was still a proper race day and the yellow jersey was still up for grabs. Fignon had his bum aerodynamically sculpted to reduce the drag. I'm joking of course.

CyclingVault ~ yep, it's pete shelley alright, and the tune is called "give it to me", from i think the "heaven and the sea" album, re recorded by buzzcocks on the "all set" album.

Webm8music,Fantastic stuff. Great find...like someone said below, the first tour got into was when Roche won it. I remember the commentator said Roche used to be a paper boy...made me end up cycling ultra fast on my paper round like I would end up in the tour...what a geek.

There was also a multicoloured jersey (as worn by Gert Jan Theunisse in this clip) which was for the best combined rider (sprints, mountains and overall classification) that was also phased out around about '89 or '90 which I always thought looked great.

red jersey? there is no red jersey. white and red spots = king of the mountains. white = young rider. yellow = race leader. green = points leader... but i'm sure you knew that anyway.

Red Jersey was for the "catch" sprints - the daily sprint bonuses sponsored by the firm Catch. It was then abolished early nineties (i think) and the points from the daily sprints went towards the green jersey!

This is amazing. I've had this theme tune in my head since 1988. This is so much better than the present washed out tune. We have to get this back onto ITV's cycling coverage now. All the other sports have their own familar theme tunes (Match of the Day, Ski Sunday, Snooker etc), now Cycling needs to get its back.
