how far from the summit was it blocked? i'm climbing it on friday. hopefully it will be passable even if still closed.

ah well, I climbed it in 1990 and I was surprised at how much of it I remember of the climb, though there wasn't anywhere near the traffic, save for some sheep very near the top where it got really steep....I honestly don't know if I could manage it now, but yeah good times, thanks for sharing!

It's nice to remember the whole way to the summit. One year and a half later of my climb I still feel eager to stay there again!

but not from this direction - we hit it from the Mongie side. Fun either way!

Fun indeed! I hear the last 3km from La Mongie has just been resurfaced, but the Luz side is still a tad gravelly. We were there 2 weeks ago - there was still snow on the road verges at the summit of the col. Hope it's warmer on Sunday. Good luck.
