I have NEVER tried to OC a CPU before. I have an i7 920 CPU, on a Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Mainboard, with a Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler. Can I get my CPU to run with 4Ghz while being STABLE! ?
@killyrm34300 There was 3 versions of the socket 775. One only supported Celeron and pentium 4 up to 3.8Ghz,. The second one supported the celeron to pentium D series. The 3rd one supoorted pentium D to core 2 duo cpus. You can put a core 2 Duo cpu in a pentium 4 based socket 755 but it would fry it or not boot at all.
Hey, I am planning on buying one, but I heard that you could overclock it to make it really...good. I also heard that it then gets really hot, so would a Cooler Master V8 good enough to cool down the cpu?
@OverLord4141 i ordered the Titan TTC-NK85TZ/CS2(RB) Fenrir EVO CPU Cooler, this was before i checked my inbox on here, will this one be sufficient? i ordered the MSI GTX 460 Cyclone OC also, my case has plenty of fans 7 to be exact i dont plan on overclocking unless i get alot of lag on games like oblivion, starcraft 2 tropico 3 ect... hopefully this cooler i ordered and some artic silver should keep my temps down..?
@dwain1987 Should be good if you dont plan on overclocking to the 4Ghz point or above, but I would SERIOUSLY recommend when you have the money to get the D14 cooler, its the king of air cooling right now and you really can't beat its amazing value.
Well, now the 920 is gone from newegg, replaced with the 930, and the 950 for $10 more. I just bought the 950 with the MSI X58 Pro-E and 6GB of G.Skill RipJaws.
I am proud to say, this video is the most informative video I have watched, to this date. I am against the videos by Tiger Direct since they got rid of Logan, and you have been somewhat of a replacement (as in your inventory of videos is not as large).
If I were to run GTA:IV on the stock cooler, would it get close to 70c? 22c room.
@gordyjordy123 with a rig like this it would be worth it to also pick up a decent cpu cooler, but make sure the cooler can fit in your case (mistake i made :P) also look at what type of harddrive you are getting, if you are going to get a cheap hard drive then you will still get bad lag, i'd advise looking at getting a Black series hard drive or a small SSD for the operating system.
@xerorox15 yes i realised that with my old pc build . hdd lag . i am now going for 128gb ssd . and the 1tb hdd for storage . i have got the cooler master v10 heatsink for overclock my beastly i7 to over 4Ghz :)
So its not recommended to use thr stock cooler that comes with the cpu? Im looking to do some serious gaming with the rig im building. Not going to overclock or anything.
@bigpoppa611 The stock cooling is perfectly fine. I'm using the stock thermal paste as well as the stock fan and have had zero problems. Just make sure you have a little bit of airflow in the case. I've got one large fan in the front of an Antec 300 case sucking air.
So would an overclocked i7 930 be good for games? and runing them on higher graphics,im building a computer from dell and i want to make the right choice. Im sure on everything else but this and i dont really want to spen another 1000 on a 970
This may be the same as the other i7 but the 975 is extreme edition and it is actually different. Thinking about getting it, my q6600 is not that good now.. But soo many things to buy, motherboard, ram, cooler, case, power... The only thing I'm keeping is the gtx260 and the hdds and dvd.. That day will come but not soon..
Yes, it's EASILY good for gaming, and actually this is the best one for your buck since if you have a cooling solution you can overclock it to 4 Ghz.
but also, AMD Cpu's take a different socket so you would have to chose from a different set of Mobos depending on which CPU you would buy. Intel or AMD...
Not quite.. the 975 has 12MB L3 cache whil'st the 920 has 8. Also 975 has more advanced piping. But, well.. in Sweden the 975 costs 22k and the 920 is 2,6k soo... really not worth it.
Also, 920 is easily overclocked to 4,4Ghz with watercooling
Hello dude, great vid, i was wondering if i can buy an CPU Intel Core i7-920 2.66 Ghz , and if i could install it by myself. I'm not very much pleased with my game performances on my current computer. Here are my specs :
Windows 7
Intel Core 2 duo 2.13ghz ( 6400)
4GB ram
Nvidia Geforce 9800 GTX,512 MB
800 gb hard disk
So i am wondering if i could buy a new processor and do everything by myself. Please Help me! Thank you!
Sorry but it would not work. your motherboard right now needs a core 2 duo and you want to put in an i7, you would need to just get a better core series chip, like the q 6750
So what do you think, if i try buying CPU Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 3.0 Ghz/ 12Мb/ 1333 MGz LGA775 . Will it be ok for my computer? Or will i have some problems?
@HAILFROMTHE941 cant belive you asked this question . your board is about 10 years old and probley get for around £100 for your whole set up the i7 alone is twice the price . if you want a good gaming rig then i would really consider saving
yes the stock coolers work fine, but they run at 45 c idle. and that is ok, but in the long run it hurts the life if the cpu, the cooler it runs, the better. regardless
Do you think Intel is stupid? Do you think they would supply you with cooler which couldn't keep cool your CPU when you watch HD or gaming? Stock cooler works nice in all situation no matter what are you doing.. playing games, HD and so on... but it's not designed for overclocking.

It says that building one is damn easy I was just replying to a comment of another user, so get off youtube and go check yourself into a mental health institution.
ok there...first off. it does take some basic skill to build a computer. you cant even start to tell me it takes none. it takes far FAR less now then it did 20 or 30 years ago, or even 10. but still. you need some basic shit. and how do you have any idea if he was given anything in life, he may be spoiled fucking rotten. or he might be like me, and buy all his own shit. so calm down.
Not really. i7 920 beats the ii 955 even with the ii 955 having 2 4890 and the i7 having 2 4850's. Look it up before you babble. ii 950 only beats the i7 at Crysis because Crysis likes the better GPU. Shush.
Just to say mate but, if you are using a EVGA X58 SLI, i was recommended when i built mine that i should not buy this motherboard because of Reliability Problems. But i think there might be a different board by EVGA that will give to basically the same or better, but not this one!!!!!!!
or u can spend the thousand dollars and get the 975 and overclock that to over 5ghz... and btw... dont forget the bus speed... the 920 only has like 4.8 while the 975 is 6.4? So you're right... there no difference between the two other than 1000 dollars!
Whats qpi? Sure you can overclock the 920 to whatever you want, but to get it to levels that 975s can be overclocked to on liquid cooling, you need to start looking at liquid nitrogen and other crazy solutions for the 920.
Hey guys i have a question is there a program which tells me to how much i can overclock it too, cause i have only 500wat Power supply, i7 920, and gtx260 216core and 9gb tri channel ram could anyone tell me to how much i could overclock the i7 since my PSU is pretty bad thanks in advance
Not necessarily. You can hit 4.3GHz with the 920, and get the same performance as the 975. The only difference is $700, heat and an unlocked multiplier.
i was going to build a new computer i have abudget of 1300 pounds any ideas what i should get as my specs i use DDR2 PC2-6400 (800MHz) DIMM i have 5 gigs of tis
Ok, 1366 is better people. I've seen all of skikarls reviews, and he knows wtf he is talking about. LGA 1366 is waaay better than the new 1156. 1156 DOES NOT have hyperthreading, or support triple channel ddr3. That makes 1366 better.
i have seen 3d game man, he like is way to robotic, he never talks to his viewers other then those dumb like 30 second videos where he answers like 1 question
for everyone about to post i5 and socket 1566 is better, the core i9 is being realeased for, you guess it, socket 1366. socket 1566 is for main stream.
which are some bes processors under 250? any suggestions?

the AMD phemon II's X4 ii 955 LOST to the i7 when they got benchmarked even with the AMD Phemon II X4's having better video cards!!
The i7 is the best processor on the planet right now, period.
GuitaristontheFloor 2 years ago
I do not argue, i7 the leader of productivity.
i7 Much faster in video converting and other.
But AMD phenom ii x4 gives stabler FPS in games, and does not concede INTEl on the maximum options (sometimes surpasses).
You can notice a difference - 200 FPS at i7 on the minimum options against 150 FPS at AMD? And on a maximum, a difference often not in advantage i7.
AMD phenom ii x4 for games at least is not worse.
dinamitli86 2 years ago
I agree with that, but see you can do this little trick called OverClocking XD
and once you do that the i7 chips blow AMD out of the water.

OriginalAtomicSheep 2 years ago
thats qpi, and you can oc the 920 to 6.4 if you want, and you can oc a 920 just as high as a 965
skikarl 2 years ago
Whats qpi? Sure you can overclock the 920 to whatever you want, but to get it to levels that 975s can be overclocked to on liquid cooling, you need to start looking at liquid nitrogen and other crazy solutions for the 920.
OriginalAtomicSheep 2 years ago
you can do things even when ur benchmarking xD ,
mine gets really freaking hot ,, , 36C idle and like 77 on load with no oc, , i think i need a better case and get my zalman 9500 lapped

Hey guys i have a question is there a program which tells me to how much i can overclock it too, cause i have only 500wat Power supply, i7 920, and gtx260 216core and 9gb tri channel ram could anyone tell me to how much i could overclock the i7 since my PSU is pretty bad thanks in advance
gunzrfun 2 years ago
you dont want it idling above 50C
skikarl 2 years ago
If i get a i7 975 and oc it wont i get better performance than the i7 920 is capable of???
Thet3 2 years ago
Not necessarily. You can hit 4.3GHz with the 920, and get the same performance as the 975. The only difference is $700, heat and an unlocked multiplier.

Ok, 1366 is better people. I've seen all of skikarls reviews, and he knows wtf he is talking about. LGA 1366 is waaay better than the new 1156. 1156 DOES NOT have hyperthreading, or support triple channel ddr3. That makes 1366 better.

damn, this is awesome. 3dgameman is for noobs. skikarl made a great video.

wrong
skikarl 2 years ago
Just because its newer doesn't mean its better. i5 is you and i7 is a Kenyan, you could never beat a Kenyan in a race, same with i5
MrShell311 2 years ago
sorry dude your fail. only thing the i5 has is the voltage difference. the rest is a step down, way to fail.
Vobis23 2 years ago
your mis informed
CaptinCaruso 2 years ago
920 Sucks, i5 is better for 200$ and its waaay better, on lga 1156,
i5 720 = 200$ 2.66ghz quad and beats the i7 920
:]
save your money get your lga 1156
vipersrules 2 years ago
Its not JUST about the ghz, its the hyperthreading and other shiz.
The i7 920 would destroy i5 720 in benchmarks
MrShell311 2 years ago 2
i5 has the same quality, l2 benchmark check
except better architecture!
vipersrules 2 years ago
Its a budget i7, it is not better then it, its for people who can't afford the i7
MrShell311 2 years ago
the i7 is SHITLOADS better then the i5
this is not an argument, its a fact.
skikarl 2 years ago
stop whining, lga 1156 >
vipersrules 2 years ago
