  • Brian Blade plays with so much groove.

  • killer, thanks for posting!

  • ah no more watching the 2min snippet from drummerworld. hourray

  • @Mrmoooose, we are some who doesn't listen to those.....

  • Brian Blade is a beast.

  • Joshua Redman is such a BOSS

  • That's the best Joshua Redman song I've heard thus far.

  • we have these wonderful talents in the world and our younger generation still listens to lady gaga and nikki manaj. I plain dont want to accept.

  • its fading away when redman going crazy.. wth..

  • First I watched the video and thought it was great, then I saw the number of views... who said jazz was dead ?

  • What microphone is he using on this one?

  • I think the Octavia pedal is an analog one rather than a monotone audio to MIDI cinverter played through a synthesizer. It seemed to sound dirty with all the whole timbre replcated in the octave sound. Might be wrong since I'm recalling from memory.

  • I think its an Octavia pedal that he uses in the album. I remember him using it live before. Does anyone have the YouTube clip?

  • Anyone know the time signature(s) ?

  • @JYoumans251 4/4

  • @HouseTheBeat the whole way through? The B section sounds like it, but the A sections sounds like it's different....Or is there just less emphasis on beat 1 in the A section?

  • @JYoumans251 It's all 4/4.

  • @HouseTheBeat LOL

  • @JYoumans251 4/4

  • 240p never sounded so.damn.SEXYYYYYYYYYYY.

  • Anyone listen to the album version know what Josh is doing to get the two-tones? It happens around 5:00 at the end of his solo, and also as they take the song out.

  • @rararichie it's overdubbing - recording a second sax track on top of the first - it happens a lot throughout this particular album; and I'm pretty sure he overdubs with a different sax on a number of places (i.e. a soprano if he's playing tenor)

  • @whyarepeoplesounkind

Overdubbing is done on synthesizer - you can even see it on the video. They just playing unison: sax and synth.

  • @Lininq happy to stand corrected on this one, but I don't think so. Sam Yahel isn't playing a synth on this track...he plays a hammond organ. And there is more than just the sax and organ playing in unison on the Elastic album, there are 2 sax sounds at a number of points. You don't hear it on this live track.

  • @whyarepeoplesounkind

I didn't hear the album, but there are modules (sound effects) usually connected to mic (can be triggered with midi pedal on/off any effect) playing different sax/note/scale/effect - any sound distortion or sax EQ or octave). If you overdubbed on recording you have to do the same sound of the concert... And again, I didn't listen to the album, but on this video I saw fingers on organ playing the same thing that sax does (starts around 1:30 ).

  • cool I'm a crazy American girl

  • the only thing that would make this better would be if the track was called 'jazz related felonies'

  • One of the best tenor saxophonists together with Coltraine , Rollins and a few more..

  • super nice drums set!

  • isso é uma aula para todos saxofonista, incrivel adoro esse cara e sue jeito de improvisar, parabéns Joshua Redman e obrigado

  • HOly shit. What he's doing at 5:00 - 5:30 is literally the hardest thing ever to do. Amazing control.

  • hihi i love try new things and thats why im here

  • ughhhhh! that sax/drum thing is so perfect at 2:35

  • @daschwarjazz Just noticed that in the A section there are 12 chords and each one has a different root. This means he uses every single root in the chromatic scale once. I really like how this guy thinks.

  • @daschwarjazz It's cool bro, every one of us does mistakes sometimes. And your ears are great, these are pretty hardcore changes and you got almost all of them right. At least now we both are sure what the changes are. :)

    P.S I'm a fail at English :P

  • do you guys know how to voice the chords onthe guitar

  • @jochris27 I'll be posting a video lesson shortly on guitar.

  • @jochris27 I will be posting a video lesson for guitar shortly. I'll let you know when it's up.

  • @daschwarjazz your chords are pretty close but not that accurate.

For example the 5th and 6th chords are D/F and E(6/9) and the 8th chord is Bm7. The tensions you added are not very accurate as well.

Other than that, you did a very well job.

  • @SaxoPianist ma ata hash hipster

  • @SaxoPianist do you have the right chords for guitar

  • @SaxoPianist I'm going to have to disagree with you, but I'll double check it once I get back from work today.

  • @SaxoPianist Well, it looks like we're both right. In this video, Sam does go from D/F to E(6/9). However, in the original recording, the chords are E9sus to Eb7(#9). That said, the 8th chord is still Cm7(b5) with the b5 in the high voice. Listen to the bass movement again. The only other correction I should make is that the Fm7(b5) in the "B" section should be F7(b9).

  • Ah hell. I just threw the track into my Transcribe software and slowed it down a tone. Looks like you were right with D/F going to E(6/9). My ears must be playing tricks on me! Sorry for doubting you!

  • Listen to that heart!

  • ok cool

  • perfection

  • カッコイイ!

  • what album is this off of??

  • @sparkinup33 the name of the album is 'elastic' - the cover has Josh Redman leaning back into a massive red elastic strip

  • @sparkinup33 Elastic from 2002

  • 59 people are immature children who don't even know what a saxophone is

  • A quand le titre " bijou " sur youtube ???

  • does some1 know where can i find the full version of this?

  • lol Be ready to jump to the world full of pleasure

  • One of my favorite artists!! Check out Compass, Timeless Tales, Moodswing and Freedom in The Groove

  • i love how brian blade waits till the very last second to make his hits

  • This is a fucking sexy song.

  • is it me or is joshua redman much more vibrant live than on his records ?

  • @helenlundeberg You're correct. Many artists are. Different vibe without an audience as the mood in a studio recording setting is. I warmed up for JR Band a few years back at a festival and have many of his (all?) CD's. Live, it was a little more of 'an edge'. More chances are taken possibly. The audience feeds back energy to the band.

  • Josh Redman's face just says "I wrote this tune, and even though I'm playing it for the 1000th time, it still is soooooo funky"

  • Anyone want the chords? Here they are:

    "A" Section: F#13-A13-Bb7(#5)-Eb7(#9)-E9-Eb7(#9)-Cm7(b5)-Bmaj7-D9-Gmaj7-Abm7-Db7(#9)

    "B" Section: Em9-A13-Ebm7-Ab13-Fm7(b5)-Bb7-F#m7-B7-Em9-A13-Ebm7-Ab13-E/F-Eb/E-Ab9sus-Ab7(#9).

    Have fun!

  • @daschwarjazz is the b section the bridge part

  • @jochris27 Yes.

  • @daschwarjazz Awesome, thanks alot!

Did you hear it or do you know them? And do you got more sheets of others, I love their music and I want to play them with a band. If you have the chords of "Put it in your Pocket" or "Boogielastic" it would be a great help. :)

  • @Sax4565 I figured the chords out by ear, but I do plan on writing out a full chart when I have some extra time on my hands. I'll take a look at the other tunes you mentioned and send you the chords once I figure them out.

  • @daschwarjazz thanks!

  • @daschwarjazz Hahaha HOLY SHIT

  • @daschwarjazz hey man, I think youre wrong on the B section: theres no Fm7(b5), its a F7(b9). and some small alterations:F#m9 instead of F#m7; B13 instead of B7. Cool that you got it all, though!

  • @Brunototguitar You are absolutely right. I had discovered my mistake about 5 minutes after posting the chords. Also, I should add that in the A section, the 5th and 6th chords (E9-Eb7(#9)) should actually be D/F and EM6/9. I know that it doesn't sound right, but if you slow down the recording, the bass goes from F to E instead of E to Eb. Since the bass notes are so low, it's hard to tell the difference.

  • My A section is: F# (Somehow I dont hear that 13 that you supposed, I hear a clear d# on the chord, but somehow F#13 still works) - A13 (omit 7) - B7(#5) - Eb7(#9) - F6(b9) (omit 7) - Ebm11 - Cm7(b5) - B (I hear exactly a triad there) - Am/D - Gmaj7 - G#m7 - C#m7(b13).

  • @Brunototguitar About the d# on F# I actually meant Db lol..thats what I hear on the chord, So a F# triad. ;)

  • To finish the B section: simply a II-V (Abm9 - Db13) back to I from A Section (F# or F#13). Cheers

  • @daschwarjazz thanks !

  • @daschwarjazz - You are freakin' awesome! Thank you so much!

  • @daschwarjazz I think the chords are

    "A" section : Gb7(13)-A7(13)-Bb7(b13)-Eb7(#9)-F7(b9,13)-E7(9)-C7(#9,#11)-B7(b9)-D7-Gmaj7-Ab7m7-Db7(b13)

    "B" section : Em7-A7-Em7-Ab7-F7(b9)-Bb7(b9)-F#m7-B7(b9,13)-Em7-A7-Em7-Ab7-G7(b9,13)-Cm7-Abm7-Db

The "ugly" tensions result from a very keyboard-ish concept of voice leading where the top notes are sustained or altered slightly while the bass moves around wildly. There's little point in doing this on a different instrument.

  • yo i love this organ playerr

  • Part of the improv reminded me of Andy kaufman

  • How much of this is improvised?

  • who da bass playa?

  • @TheScott172 the bass is being played by Sam Yahel's feet on the B3 organ

  • @TheScott172 There is no bass player, that's Sam Yahel on organ pedals.

    Yeah, he's that awesome.
