Series one spent a lot of time setting things up and giving us a decent background of these characters. Once that was settled, season 2 was able to develop more complex and interesting storylines. As much as I loved season 2 and 3, without the foundation set in series one, you've got nothing.

What makes an adult show is an intelligent script written as conversation between adult characters. Take away the same gender kissing and silly violence and Torchwood is a poorly written kid's show.

I think it needs time to mature. "Countrycide" and "Captain Jack Harkness" were two episodes that I think showed the potential in the writers. If after season two it still seems wooden, then I agree, scrap it.
