As I understand it, the large centre hole on a 45 was developed to allow easy handling of the record by jukebox mechanisms as previously 78 spindle holes had been chipped by the heavy handling of the changers.
That said in the UK where I'm from 45s had the standard sized hole as featured on 45s and 78s but for a period of time had a 'pop out' or optional centre so that they could feature in (mostly US manufactured) jukeboxes which were commonplace over here.
@VictrolaJazz I of course meant that 45s had the standard sized hold as featured on LPs and 78s. Oops! Thanks for the add but it's not really much of a channel!
A true story,i walked into a shop i use for collecting on tuesday, the gentleman i know who prices the donations to the shop said.He noticed some strange labels on a collection of dozen records,he thought that they may be worth something ,so he priced them at 15 pounds each.He was surprised how quick they sold. They were Elvis SUN labels,i am no expert but surely worth more.
DAMN, that Zenith has sharp clear sound. It`s beautiful, thanks for posting.

@longpast78 I'm not quite sure what 15 pounds translates to in US currency ($30?), but easily worth that! Can you still get them?

@chompo7 Thanks! They were beautiful changers--infinitely variable as regards speed (13-82 RPM) and record size as well! This one is from 1956.
