  • I want to stop time right here. They liked eachother, they were still striving. This may be the classic example of their individual songwriting and personalities merging. Harmonies, percussion, rhythm, bass, and all. Lennon and McCartney.

  • It's before music became a commercial product.

  • great to hear how the song changed in feel as it progressed - the harmonium was a stroke of genius.

  • Awesome, thanks for sharing!

  • @sawfish111 do you know how that big key on your keyboard works, it's called "space bar" try using it the nex time

  • shit at 1:00 george looks like liam gallagher xd

  • @chrisg20x i noticed that to its weird

  • wow. what a treat. a little glimpse into the evolution of a beatle song. It's easy to think it's a simple song, when all you've done for 40 years is listen to/hum the vocals tune. But in take 1, you really hear all the sophisticated, unusual chord and tempo changes - these guys were natural geniuses - without the education or formal training - blows me away every time

  • Acoustic outtake: McCartney as Dylan.

Take 1: The height of the Tambourine Period.

  • Take 1. McCartney as Dylan.

  • If I could come back in another life as another person, I think I would choose Sir George Martin; he was there at the inception of all these classics, literally listening to music being revolutionized. This is proof. That first glimpse of the song on McCartney's demo reminds me of John's earliest version of "Strawberry Fields Forever." There's something ethereal about it, like a miner's first glimpse of a vein of gold.

  • I worked it out. Now what am I supposed to do?

  • 11 people can't work it out...

  • The beatles should be on tv every day , radio every hour and taught in schools .

  • @Jazzawray

I'm a music teacher and I make sure allllll my students are taught about the Beatles :)

  • @Frinkle233 Good stuff...this music is beyond time.

  • @Jazzawray i have read the anthology does that count ;p

  • Paul: "Do you remember the end?"

John: "I know how it goes...it's when it comes."

  • Thumbs up if you instantly started singing along at 0:59

  • The harmonium gives this a special quality that sets it apart from other Beatles songs. Yet another cracker.

  • I love the rhythm guitar in this song, it's one of the best.

  • Simply amazing.....

    peace

  • The Beatles were a force of Nature. They showed us that with enough love, you can do just about anything. There are hidden messages and meanings in many of their songs. To find out what they are, search "Truth Contest" in Google and click the 1st result, then open The Present and read the section about The Beatles.

  • It is sad when outtakes sound ten times better than anything that passes for music today

  • @beastorbrwest "Nuff said..."

  • He sounds older on the beginning bit..is that from '65?

  • @MARMARR1Yes these are great bands no question, but i was refering to anything from the noughties, or to days music, theres just nothing happening, you also forgot the Smiths!

  • I remember first hearing this on a bootleg LP I brought back in '90. I wonder why this did'nt make it to Anthology.

  • well done ringo!

  • Can you think of anyones elses outtakes you would want to listen to of today? no....? I thought so, i would have paid good money to watch these guys develope a song!

  • @MrMymanalishi Outside of The Rolling Stones, no.

  • my fave Beatles song...:)

  • The harmonium sounding louder reminds me of the drums sounding louder on the American mono version of Michelle.

  • this song, Ringo did well A+++++++++++++

  • fantastic! fantastic!!!

  • MY GODNESS!!!!111 I never heard this!!!!!!!!!!!11111111

  • I've heard the acoustic pt at beg & the abrupt cutoff at end on an Italian bootleg CD of Rubber Soul (with diff pic on cover) I bought at Bleeker St Records in NYC, but that "take one" was new to me. Excellent video! Great audio & video editing! Beatles forever!

  • The first McCartney demo bit - is there a full version of this?

  • @salvadormarley yes there is. I got it off a CD called "Artifacts Beatlemania". It's on cd 2.

  • Subscribed!

  • Great song by two of the greatest songwriters in music history.

  • @Cozycriter I think they are the best two songwriters period, at least of the 20th Century. The odds of the two best songwriters ending up in the same band are long.

  • The second version is proper physcedelic! :)

  • Fascinating. The Beatles best recording. Thanks to the provider

  • Might this be the begining of the end of the L&M duality?

  • really concise. thanks for that.

  • Try to see it my way......yes it needs to be said in many ways....

    Bf song

    ed

  • Intriguing video. thanks for the upload

  • Yes @msradx ... Lennon + McCartney ARE the Greatest songwriting DUO in the History of Music... Bar None!! - - More #1 Hits than Anyone before or Since... Everyone in the Music Biz has done a Cover at one time or another... and the FACT is that the World has only actually heard a Fraction of their work. - In an interview back in 1966, George Martin [Beatles producer] said that the two had written enough songs at that time to fill a New LP every Week for the Next 10 or 12 years!! - Do the Math.:-)

  • Not unlike any other band working out a tune they'd written.......except of course, for the quality of the tune. In that, The Beatles were light years above the rest.

  • bobo dylan vale callampa....only shit

  • @Pategayo Like your mama

  • why did you watch it then it clearly says studio takes

    lol

so wheres your great video ? upload one

  • Dylan influence?

  • @laperraquetepario It's an OUTTAKE douchebag

  • Where's the 'love' button?

Doesn't anyone agree the like button is useless because it just pisses everyone off?

  • John wrote the middle and Paul wrote the beginning and end.

  • who cares who wrote what???? it was a time in history that we lived...... it was a beginning.... THIS WAS IT!!! and now it's a wonderful history and legacy for you young ones to try to understand instead of the CRAP you listen to today and call "music"!!! It was the best music, in the best time, by the BEST BAND that ever was!!! They will always be the BEATLES!!!!

  • @mariap1919 Could you please not group all of today's generation together, cause it really offends me. I love the Beatles, and don't listen to any of the music in the charts.

  • really a piece of art !!!

  • This est fantastic. Never heard these takes before. You can see the genesis of a song. It's great how McCartney is sweet and melancholy and then Lennon comes in with a true observation on life that sets it off perfectly. I don't know how many times I've said to someone "Life's too short" and it was because of this song. Love Lennon's "I know how it goes, it's when it comes" catchy coo lala or did I just say that?

  • the bass in take one is perfect with taht "boom" sound

  • Oh Paul's voice is so beautiful

  • We Can Work it Out - this was Paul's song about Jane Asher who was leaving to start at Bristol Old Vic - Paul wanted her around him all the time but she was independant, especially for the time, and wanted her own career. The middle 8 was written by John and the 3/4 waltz time was George's idea.

I got this from 'A Hard Day's Write' by Steve Turner. It documents the circumstances of how every Beatles song was written and by whom - it's fucking brilliant.

  • what 7 dumb fuckers hate this video?!

FUCK YOU. The Beatles are the greatest band known to man.

  • @jeneezayy seven fucking boy/girl band fan nobodys my friend.Fuck them.

  • Simplemente fabuloso, increíble, envidiable, nostálgico, alegre, único. Gracias por compartir este material. Saludos.

  • where did you get the first take on this video from? it is freakin B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L-!

  • God I love these outtakes, almost like hearing a remix of the song. Where do you find these? Please post more! McCartney is such a musical legend. I wish John had been around in the 90's, I bet they would have regrouped like many other bands did.

  • @spookerz35 Anthologies

  • The Beatles are just insanely talented. Instrumentally they are knock-outs and I needless to say as are the vocals.

  • They were creating this stuff in the 50's that's what makes them sooo incredibly superior to all rock bands in history !! they are The Beetles!

  • @glorieux09 They were a 60's band and its spelled "The Beatles".

  • @glorieux09 um 63-69. Beatles yeah?

  • @moocher678 No, actually their work became famous in 1962, when Ringo was welcome into the Beatles, and Pete Best joined.

  • happy birthday george and i love this song and ya i know it isnt george singing it i was just mentioning that its his birthday

  • Liam Gallagher wishes he looked like George - he tries hard enough.

  • It's totally George. Gallagher wouldn't be an adult next to Lennon.

  • he's photoshopped in. clearly

  • It's George, sorry to deflate your bubble.

  • God!, he really looks like Laim Gallager!. Must be George though, I guess...

  • @Crisstti jump out of your basement of ignorance, retarded!!!!!!!

  • @andylyboy31 Sorry but, what are you talking about?. Are you offended about something?.

  • liam is a fag I forgot who he was until you brought him up

  • In some pictures, who's the stand in for George..?

  • unknown identity for 6,4 billion population Liam Gallagher, looks like George, shud we say

  • who the fuck is Liam Gallagher???

  • @beatlesfan07480 the singer of he band Oasis :D

  • at 1:00, george looks so much like liam gallagher.

  • Or should you say..."Liam Gallagher looks so much like George"?

  • 2:33 amazing

  • A great body of work, but what if they'd stayed together another 10-20 years? And yeah, the harmony thing is from BOTH of them. Both were great harmonists. They learned NOT to sing parallel harmony from the Everly Brothers, then took two part harmony much further. The Hollies and Seekers and Byrds, Mama and Papa's - they all owe it to Macca and John.

  • Na they broke up at the right time. They're one of the only bands that broke up "on top." They were still writting good songs and thats part of the reason why they are so great. All the other bands broke up when they couldnt think of anymore songs and the last few years always stink. Thats why im glad they broke up when they did

  • @kyle28911 thats so true

  • I wonder what the keyboard is in take 3. It doesn't sound like an organ almost sounds like a tape running backwards (which we know comes later)

  • harmonium

  • @ih8tbush It's called a Harmonium.

  • wow............

  • Dear Lumbago 12. It's a real demo from 65! It was first heard on the radio show The Lennon Tapes. John had it amongst his things. It finishes where it does because Lennon taped over the end of it with something else.

  • loving them forvever <3

  • What a great song. No one could write harmony like Lennon. His parts were always unique and never cliched. On "Here There Everywhere," note Lennon's harmony part on "Love never dies, watching her eyes." No one else would ever have thought of that part. Same for "If I Fell." Lennon could quite possibly be the greatest rhythm guitar player and harmonizer of all time, aside from his obvious genius.

  • @CaptainVasily Right lennon is the greatest rhythm guitar player in history, himself and harrison had the best rhythm section in any band ive ever heard....go to how to play guitar like john lennon on youtube, there is a kid on here that is a beatles music prodigy and shows the technique john used....awesome!

  • Thanks, Wilhelm. You're right: That kid really has Lennon's style down! Thanks for the tip.

  • who>?

  • yeah but he couldnt tune it properly he had to get Paul to do it. its really an overstatement to say he's the best in history, and im a huge beatles fan

  • A Collection Of Beatles Oldies 3rd song , my favorite song, japanese title koiwo dakisimeyou

  • thank you for post it. Beatles are the best! love forever!!

  • There are no two other voices in pop music that blend with the magic of John's & Paul's. Start with John as the foundation, add some McCartney harmony, and it's like butta!

  • The first take is Macca from later years; probably aroung the time of 'Anthology'.

  • How perfect is this. thanks so much for posting it.

and i'm just realizing how appropriate "we can work it out" is for the later Beatles' relationships. <333

  • Paul: Do you remember the end?

John: ...I know how it goes....it's when it comes...Classic Lennon wit.

  • They had trouble remembering the ending because they would forget to go back to waltz time signiture. ringo, who was the perfectionist had to be reminded.

  • @myrtlebox Yes! John's wit was unique and hard to catch sometimes...

  • @myrtlebox That's how geniuses talk :)

  • @ternqwest i dont understand .?

  • Perfection.

  • Thanks for post it. The Beatles are the best!

  • why isn't this on the anthology!!!

  • Bloody Fantastic takes!!!

  • greattttt

  • one of my fav beatles songs, amazing seeing the evolution shown here from raw form to a masterpiece.

  • Many gratitudes and thankie things for posting this. Very many.

    FAX

  • ver heard past the forst 40-55 secs of acoustic take tho!! makes me wonder if it does exsist in longer form

  • I really like how you set this up.

  • i ♥ 3:12

  • Thanks for posting this. I love all of their finished products, and I always get a little more enjoyment from hearing the process to get there. I love all "behind the scenes" recordings from all groups and individual artists. I love the Beatles "Anthology" series because I get to hear so many different versions of the songs. Sadly, I have yet to obtain the Beatles "Rarities" CD.

  • ha 1:36 :d

  • wow - this is beautiful,, taking us from acoustic chords, notes, voice to the finished song with instrument, harmony etc .. it must seem like the birth of their " baby" how awesome ! fantastic creativity

  • I love this! What a great idea -building We Can Work it Out from the demo and the musical backing to the finished song- well done. The audio is fantastic but how do I download it and keep it is an audio file?

    Dan, Australia

  • excellent takes..awesome..the beatles forever, cheers.

  • muy bueno

  • Most people don't know what the root note is so why not tell people? Einstein

  • God, this is cool! Never heard this before. Lennon and McCartney were EQUALLY gifted and enhanced one another's works so well. This is a perfect example.

  • why wasnt THIS on anthology??

IS there going to be an anthology 4?

  • Ah! Those right Bastards, The Beatles! How DARE they withhold gems like this from the Anthology collection. At least we know that there's still some use for bootlegs and such.

  • even better would be to put out multitracks on some sort of CD-ROM so everyone could create his own customized mix of each song and then burn a custom cd

  • fairy tale?...you mean like Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds?..Mr Kite? Cry Baby Cry?...god you are stupid.

  • Let it be?

  • Ya bloody wanker.

  • Who does the tamborine on this? Cause if Ringo busy with the drums.......????

  • George Harrison is believed to be playing tamborine since Lennon is playing acoustic guitar and there is no lead guitar in the song.

  • That's cool.

    Thanks man.

  • Wow. This is great. Thanks so much for posting. A fourth anthology would be so great!

  • No, silly, John and Paul collaborated to some degree on MOST songs they wrote.

  • Comment removed

  • Only one of maybe 2 or 3 songs Paul and John actually wrote together.

John wrote the "life is very short.."' part called" the bridge" in songwritting terminonlogy.

  • that is nonsense.

  • Do your research and you'll that it is true!

They had an agreement that no matter who wrote the song it would be credited as Lennon/McCartney

  • He's right, you know.

  • In one of the last interviews John Lennon gave before his death (published posthumously in Playboy), he discussed in great depth, song by song, the specific contributions of each of the Beatles to the group's entire songwriting catalog, acknowledging ultimately that, "Those early songs were pretty much written nose-to-nose with Paul". That interview was a significant effort by Lennon to set the record straight.

  • Yes, but they wrote a LOT of songs together. And even ones that people believe to be solo efforts (such as "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds") had CONTRIBUTIONS from the other. They were a great songwriting team. They truely bought out the best in each other.

We Can Work It Out, It's Getting Better All The Time, Michelle etc. wouldn't be the same without John's contributions and neither would half of John's songs without Paul.

The Lennon/McCartney team was an unbeatable force.

  • I believe that George contibuted the idea for the waltz during the chorus/bridge. A true group effort.

  • @msradx you mean, *IS* and unbeatable force. ;D

  • He's absolutely right. Most of the songs were either one alone or with one writing chorus/verse etc. and the other writing the "middle eight" or "bridge". An example about all of the songs being Lennon/McCartney regardless: "Give Peace a Chance"? Lennon/McCartney composition. But it's quite obvious who wrote that one.

  • La version que aparece en The Book of Taliesin de Deep Puple es extraordinaria tambien. Aguante DP, DT y Ayreon.
