@mrsunny811 Why do people idolize other drug addled or sex problematic players they may be good on the field but James was the epitome of a true champion, a Legend player
and a role model in any sport, only a few times in a generation that happens and thank God he was a Bomber.
absolute freak of nature. cant wait till we get he's kids under the father son rule. by far the best player ive seen in my time and then some. stoked he is coaching us again... by the way lets hope the sainters stick it up these collingwood fuckers this week. couldnt believe they didnt steal it last week with a minute to go... Welcome back
bomber... oh we havnt announced that yet have we ? oops !!
Yep love it how he stuck it right up Collingwood those assholes, their scum fans still hate him for how he outplayed each and every player in their side. He was everything that Buckley wasn't. A great leader, an inspiration, a genius, a gentleman, a winner, a champion, courageous and naturally talented. Bit disappointing they put those duds Nickelback and Foo Fighters to the great man's highlight reel.
I've been a Bombers supporter for 32 years. I've seen some superstars at Windy Hill: Watson, Madden, Daniher, Van Der Haar, Long, Mercuri, O Donnell, Lucas... but none of them come close to the brilliance of Jimmy Hird. he's the king of Windy Hill. we love you Hirdy!
whached this videio mate and it made me reaise how much i miss him. he is postered all over my walls with him and me in a photo. yer i am at the age of 14 but i love this guy so much. great video man. he is a bloody ledgend ayee.
I sure will miss James! If you read this mate, thanx for the memories, you were the best there was. Watchin the team without you jus aint the same, there seems to be some magic missing that only you could bring.
the most corageous player i have ever seen, i loved the way he could just pick up the ball and throw it on the boot and no matter where he was it was a goal.......absolute legend hirdy!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well half his best performances were against the pies! God Bless him... absolute legend Hird. No one will ever replace him, although Jobe Watson is giving his father and Jimmy a good run for their money at the moment!
He's the most well rounded person and footballer both on the field and off, he's definately one of the greatest ever and im not a bomber supporter, if their was one person i would love to had played or watched a game of footy with, it would be him.
...and that goal he scored against Richmond @ 2:30 I still rate as one of the top 5 goals i've ever seen, it doesn't recieve anywhere near enough credit. Three blokes all over him, difficult ball to control in mid air, taps to his right hand from his left and finishes with his back almost go goal. One of the only players of the past 20 years who could've pulled something like that off, unbelievable.
I believe Hird was the complete footballer, whereas Carey was the greatest CHF of the modern era. Carey may have been a better mark and kick for goal, not by much though. Hird was a match winner in his own right, Carey needed the ball in his zone to show his true magic as with Ablett. In my opinion it is hair splitting as they all produced moments that has set the benchmark for future players.
However, based on pure highlights.....Ablett - Hird - Carey
Disagree. Superstar to the max, just watch his abilities, his freakish marks against the odds, his ridiculous goalkicking ability, any angle any distance, and best of all, that brain! He was always in the right spot. His courage and his determination make him a legend, his skills make him a superstar
I reckon Hird is the best player to have ever played footy. These two videos are unbeliverable and it's so sad to see that players like Hird has to go eventually. I'll miss you mate, you're the champion of AFL!!!!
how can you sum up the pure talent that is james hird. He is one of a kind and will neverbe emulated. it is unfortunate that the way the great game is heading that we will probably never get to see a player with his passion, commitment, skill and leadership. james hird you are a living legend on and of the footy field!
I'm a Canadian who's been to every home game this year, and am gutted i didn't see the first 15 yrs of this man's career. A true genius and he will be missed.
I know how you feel! The 2008 season will be tough cause it will be the first season for me watching the bombers without their greatest ever player. Hird is the sole reason why I started supporting the Dons when I was a young bloke.
Lloydy sumed it up best "couragous and brilliant" The term legend is used too much these days but one should only be called a legend if they are up to the standard of James Hird... Will be greatly missed in the Red and Black next year.... what would it take for one more year???? If it werent for so many injuries we may have just whatched the greatest player to pull on the the Bomber jumper.
at around 9.00, the commentator yells "thats as good as it gets". That is a perfect way to sum up james hird. Its gunna be a very sad day for afl when he walks out on subiaco for his last ever game. what a fucking champion
All I can say is, how honoured are we to have lived in a time to watch players like Hird. As a Bomber supporter I'm also glad to have watched Carey, Buckley and Voss. But Hird is the true King, hands down.
Hands down one of the best football players of all time with the exception of gary ablett and andrew mcleod, i watch this movie everytime before a game and its just inspirational.
The goal against Adelaide when he had a bandage on his head I think he was pretty out of it. He went to the hospital and could not remember kicking the goal.
i always looked up to james when i was young, i was upset to see him go but its great to have him back as a coach

I love the fact that he hates Collingwood.
Still to this day on the couch he hates talking about Collingwood.
When we won on ANZAC day he wouldn't shut up about it!!!

It all depends on how "better" is defined.
I believe Hird was the complete footballer, whereas Carey was the greatest CHF of the modern era. Carey may have been a better mark and kick for goal, not by much though.
